Matplotlib FREE Training Course by Python Guides: What the Outline Covers and Who It Suits

The Python Guides Matplotlib course is a five-module outline covering setup, many plot types, statistical and 3D charts, data sources, and GUI and web embedding. Here is what the page states and what it leaves open.

The Python Guides “Matplotlib FREE Training Course” is a structured Matplotlib curriculum organized into five modules: setup and basic plot formatting, a wide range of plot types, statistical and 3D charts, plotting from data sources such as Pandas, CSV files and SQL databases, and embedding Matplotlib in GUI and web applications. The course page presents this as an outline. It does not publish a version requirement, a lesson-by-lesson duration, or independent reviews of teaching quality, so the sections below separate what the page states from what it leaves open.

What the course page covers

The course page at pythonguides.com/matplotlib-free-training-course/ groups its content into five modules. Each is listed below with the topics the page names.

Module 1: Overview of Matplotlib

This module covers the fundamentals that every later lesson depends on:

  • An introduction to the library and getting started with a first plot
  • Installation with pip and with conda
  • Legends, grids and axes
  • Saving plots to files
  • Backends, colormaps and tick formatting

Module 2: Different plot types

This is the largest group of topics. The page lists:

  • Multiple lines, and bar charts including stacked and grouped bars
  • Histograms and scatter plots
  • Pie and donut charts
  • Error bars, polar plots and quiver plots
  • Contour plots and date-based axes
  • Text and annotations
  • Subplots, multiple figures and twin axes
  • Logarithmic scales and shared axes

Module 3: Statistical and 3D charts

This module moves from general charts to analytical ones: autocorrelation plots, box and violin plots, heatmaps, image plots and colorbars. It ends with introductory and advanced 3D plotting.

Module 4: Plotting from data sources

This module addresses a question many readers bring to a plotting course: how to get real data into a chart. The page names four input routes: Pandas DataFrames, CSV files, and databases in the form of MySQL, MariaDB and SQLite.

Module 5: Embedding Matplotlib

The final module shows Matplotlib inside application frameworks. The page names examples for PyQt5, Tkinter, Django and wxPython. This is useful if you are building a desktop tool or a web view that displays charts, rather than producing static images for a report.

Is the course free?

The page is titled as a free course, and the publisher’s homepage, pythonguides.com, promotes its Python tutorials under the heading “Learn Python for Free.” The course outline itself does not list prices, subscription tiers or a paid upgrade, so readers should confirm current access terms on the page before enrolling. The page also does not name a book, computer component or other physical item as a requirement. You need a working Python environment and Matplotlib, which the first module covers.

Installing Matplotlib: pip or conda

The installation lessons explicitly mention both pip and conda. The two standard commands most readers will use are:

  • pip: pip install matplotlib
  • conda: conda install -c conda-forge matplotlib

These are the widely used package-manager commands for Matplotlib. The course page does not state which exact commands its lessons use, and it does not give a supported Matplotlib version or guarantee compatibility with a particular Python release or operating system. Check the installed version with python -c "import matplotlib; print(matplotlib.__version__)" and compare your results with the course’s code if the output looks different.

Does the course cover different kinds of charts?

Yes, and the breadth is the main strength of the outline. Module 2 and Module 3 together list more than twenty named chart and plot types, from basic line and bar charts to contour plots, violin plots, heatmaps and 3D surfaces. The page presents these as course topics. It does not say that each one receives an equal amount of time or practice exercises, so the outline is best read as a map of coverage rather than a measure of depth on any single chart type.

Can I plot data from a CSV file or a database?

The outline includes both. Module 4 names CSV files, Pandas DataFrames and three database engines: MySQL, MariaDB and SQLite. A practical route for a beginner is to start with a CSV file loaded into a Pandas DataFrame, then plot columns from it. Readers who work with a live MySQL or MariaDB server will need a connection library and server access outside the course, and the page does not describe the setup for those connections. SQLite needs no separate server, which makes it the simplest database option to test with.

What the outline does not establish

The course page is a list of topics. The following points are not stated on it, and this article does not fill them in:

  • Matplotlib version: the page does not name the version its code targets. Plotting APIs change between releases, so older tutorial code may need small adjustments.
  • Duration: the course page does not give a total length. The homepage describes a broader free Python and machine-learning video course as “40 modules” and “70+ hours of HD video.” Those are the publisher’s own figures for that broader course, not for the Matplotlib course, and they are not independently audited.
  • Learner outcomes and teaching quality: no independent review, completion rate or learner testimonial specific to this course was found. The assessment of the content here is limited to what the outline lists.

Who the course suits

Based on the published outline, the course fits readers who match most of the following:

  • You have basic Python skills and want to learn Matplotlib as a single library rather than a full data-science stack.
  • You need a wide range of chart types, including less common ones such as polar, quiver and contour plots.
  • Your data lives in Pandas, CSV files or SQLite, MySQL or MariaDB.
  • You plan to embed charts in a PyQt5, Tkinter, Django or wxPython application.

You may want a different resource if you need to confirm behavior on a specific Matplotlib release, if you want a fixed course length to plan around, or if you are new to Python itself. In that case, start with the publisher’s broader free Python material, then return to this outline.
