The Marshall Acton III is a compact, mains-powered home speaker with Bluetooth 5.2, a 3.5 mm analog input, and physical bass and treble controls. It is not a battery portable or a smart speaker: Marshall lists no Wi-Fi, microphone, voice command, water resistance, or RCA input. Its published audio figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent listening-test results.
What the Marshall Acton III is—and is not
Acton III is the smallest model in Marshall’s Home Line III range, according to the company. It measures 260 × 170 × 150 mm (10.2 × 6.7 × 5.9 in) and weighs 2.85 kg (6.28 lb), so it is compact relative to the larger models but still a substantial home unit. Marshall lists a mains lead in the box and a 100–240 V power input; it does not list battery operation. Marshall’s product specifications do not establish it as suitable for outdoor use, and the company lists no water resistance.

It is best understood as a speaker for listening from a connected source, rather than an all-in-one connected hub. Marshall lists Wi-Fi, a microphone system, and voice command as absent. There is no built-in voice assistant or Wi-Fi streaming described in the specifications.
Connections and everyday controls
Bluetooth and analog input
Marshall lists Bluetooth 5.2 with a specified range of 10 m (30 ft), plus one 3.5 mm analog input. The manual’s instruction is direct: “Plug in an analogue audio device with a 3.5 mm stereo jack.” The source button switches between Bluetooth and AUX, and Bluetooth playback can be controlled from the speaker’s top panel. Marshall’s Acton III support page links to product guidance, while the Marshall speaker manuals provide operating instructions.
#1 Best Overall
- ROOM-FILLING SOUND: Acton III has an even wider soundstage than its predecessor, delivering immersive, room-filling Marshall signature sound.
- PAIR, PLAY AND TURN IT UP: Acton III is straight to business, so you can just pair and play without the hassle of a complex set-up
- NEXT-GENERATION BLUETOOTH: Acton III is ready for the future of Bluetooth technology and has been built to deliver next-generation Bluetooth features the moment they are available
- ICONIC DESIGN THAT STANDS APART: Marshall has taken its signature rock ’n’ roll home speaker line-up and given it a stripped-back look that makes a loud statement
- A MORE SUSTAINABLE APPROACH: While staying true to the iconic design that speaks to the brand’s heritage, Acton III has a PVC-free build that comprises 70% recycled plastic and only vegan materials.
There is no RCA input. If a turntable, television, or other source has only RCA outputs, check whether it also offers a suitable headphone or line output, or whether you need an appropriate adapter or conversion device. The Acton III itself does not accept RCA plugs. It also has no HDMI input; that matters if you are choosing a speaker primarily for TV sound.
Physical controls and app
The top-panel controls cover source selection, volume, bass, treble, play/pause, track skipping, and power. That gives you direct access to core playback and tone adjustments without relying on an app. Marshall also offers the Marshall Bluetooth app for iOS and Android for additional settings and over-the-air updates. Marshall support says: “We recommend that you use this product together with the Marshall Bluetooth app for the best user experience, however the speaker also works without the app.”

What Marshall’s audio specifications tell you
Marshall lists stereo output, a bass-reflex cabinet, a frequency range of 45–20,000 Hz, and a maximum sound-pressure level of 95 dB SPL at 1 m. Its amplifier specification is one 30 W Class D amplifier for the woofer and two 15 W Class D amplifiers for the tweeters. These are manufacturer-published specifications; the product page does not provide an independent listening test. Frequency range and amplifier wattage alone cannot tell you how the speaker will sound in your room, how its bass will feel, or how loudly it will play without distortion over time.

Marshall describes the main differences across Acton III, Stanmore III, and Woburn III as size and driver/amplifier configurations, intended to suit different room sizes and loudness needs. Its support material identifies Acton as lacking RCA and Woburn as the only Home Line III model with HDMI. The available specifications do not establish an independent comparative sound ranking.

- WIDER SOUNDSTAGE: Improved tweeters and waveguides disperse sound to cover a bigger area.
- ENHANCED BASS: A redesigned bass port that creates a cleaner and more powerful bass with tighter sound at higher volumes. Now it’s also easier to place it flush against the wall without affecting audio performance.
- DYNAMIC LOUDNESS: Get a consistent and balanced sound at all volumes.
- NEW CUSTOMIZABLE M-BUTTON: The fourth edition of Acton now features the M-button. One press to get to your music or adjust sound or dive straight into your favorite music via Spotify Tap.
- UPDATED TACTILE CONTROLS: Heritage amp-inspired design for intuitive interactions. The classic brass top panel includes an improved media control and the signature power switch.
| Model | What the cited Marshall material establishes |
|---|---|
| Acton III | Smallest of the three in Marshall’s description; no RCA input. |
| Stanmore III | Marshall lists size and driver/amplifier configuration as differences; specific comparative listening results are not stated. |
| Woburn III | Marshall identifies it as the only Home Line III model with HDMI; it is also differentiated by size and driver/amplifier configuration. |
Choose among them by matching the speaker’s footprint and connections to your room and sources, rather than assuming a larger model is automatically better for every use. For TV audio, confirm the exact input you need; for a turntable or older component, verify its output before buying.
