To enlarge the default Samsung Keyboard on a Galaxy phone, open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Size and transparency. Drag the handles on the sides outward, then tap Done. Use Reset on the same screen to restore the original size. Samsung’s US instructions describe these controls; the exact menu can vary by device and software version.
Resize Samsung Keyboard
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management, then Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Tap Size and transparency.
- Drag the handles at the keyboard’s sides outward to make it larger.
- Tap Done to keep the change. To return to the original dimensions, reopen this screen and tap Reset.
You may also be able to open Samsung Keyboard settings by tapping the gear icon in the keyboard toolbar. Some older or regional software versions use a different label: Samsung’s Philippines support page, for example, describes Style and Layout > Size and transparency. The steps and available settings can differ by model, software version, carrier and region, as Samsung notes in its keyboard guidance.

Choose the setting that matches what you want to change
- Keyboard dimensions: Use Size and transparency to resize the keyboard itself.
- Letters and symbols: Use Font size, if available, to change the size of the characters printed on the keys. This does not resize the keyboard.
- Larger keys with more contrast: Turn on High contrast keyboard at Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements > High contrast keyboard. Samsung says this option enlarges the Samsung keyboard and changes key colors to improve contrast. See Samsung’s mobile accessibility guidance.
- Placement or layout: Choose a keyboard Mode to change where or how it appears. Standard spans the main screen, one-handed moves it to a side, floating creates a movable popup, and split divides it in supported wide-screen or landscape contexts. These modes change placement or layout, not the separate size setting.
Samsung’s regional support instructions also explain that a floating keyboard can be resized and its transparency adjusted. In the resize interface, the center control can move the keyboard; tap Done when finished. Samsung Japan’s instructions cover resizing and moving the keyboard.

If the resize option is missing or unavailable
- You cannot find the setting: Open the keyboard and tap its gear icon, or search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard.”
- Your menus look different: Check that Samsung Keyboard is the active keyboard. These steps are for Samsung Keyboard; a third-party keyboard has its own controls. Samsung cautions that menus and options vary by model, software version, provider and region.
- “Size and transparency” is greyed out: Samsung UK notes that High contrast keyboard may disable this control. Turn off High contrast keyboard and check the resize setting again; behavior can vary by device and software. See Samsung UK’s keyboard settings guidance.
- The keyboard moved to the wrong spot: Use the center control in the resize interface to reposition it, then tap Done.
- You want to undo the change: Return to Size and transparency and tap Reset.
