How does the trade-in process work?
- Enter your item details. Select an item and provide its model and condition; MAINGEAR’s FAQ says specifications also affect pricing. The page says multiple items can be added to one quote.
- Review the offer. You can decline before accepting if the quoted credit does not suit you.
- Accept to receive the gift card. MAINGEAR says the digital card is issued right away and can be applied to a MAINGEAR order.
- Pack and ship. Put the items together, attach the prepaid shipping label and send the package. MAINGEAR says SELLIT9 handles the remaining process.
- Respond to verification results. SELLIT9 checks the items on arrival. If their condition differs from what you reported, MAINGEAR says the offer may be revised; you can accept the new amount or request the item back.
What should you do before shipping?
- Back up any data you want to keep, then wipe the device.
- Sign out of accounts and disable device locks.
- Include original cables and power supplies when available.
- Describe the item’s condition accurately to reduce the chance of a mismatch during verification.
Is the EXTRA5 promotion still available?
Tom’s Hardware reported on October 1, 2026, that the launch promotion added 5% to a trade-in quote through October 14, 2026, with code EXTRA5. That report is dated, and promotion terms can change; check MAINGEAR’s live program page before relying on the code. The report also described a temporary hold on a shopper’s card until traded gear “checks out.” MAINGEAR’s page confirms verification and possible quote changes, but does not state the hold amount, release timing or exact mechanics.
How should you judge whether an offer is worthwhile?
Start with the actual quote for your exact model, specifications and condition rather than an estimated or advertised value. Compare what matters to you: MAINGEAR credit versus cash elsewhere, shipping and collection logistics, when payment arrives, how a changed offer is handled, and what happens to your data. The launch report’s illustrative trade-in values were converted from Canadian prices and cautioned that they might not reflect U.S. market values; they are not a reliable promise of what your item will fetch.
