Qi is the Wireless Power Consortium’s wireless-charging standard; Qi2 adds magnetic alignment, and Qi2 25W is a higher-power tier. MagSafe is Apple’s magnetic charging and accessory brand. The charger’s label alone does not tell you the speed your phone will get: check the exact phone model, charger certification and required wall adapter.
What do MagSafe, Qi2 and Qi mean?
Qi is the Wireless Power Consortium’s (WPC) wireless-charging standard. First released in 2010, it has evolved through multiple versions and power profiles. Apple says iPhone 8 and later support Qi-certified wireless chargers, and Qi is used across phone brands.

Qi2 is a WPC standard introduced in 2023. Its Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) uses magnets to align the phone and charger, and the original Qi2 tier supports 15W charging. Qi2 25W is the WPC’s branding for Qi v2.2.1; the WPC announced that branding on July 23, 2025, and describes Qi v2.2 as supporting power transfer up to 25W. These are standard/profile capabilities, not a promise that every phone-and-charger pairing will reach the top rate.

MagSafe is Apple’s brand for its magnetic charging and accessory system. It is not the opposite of Qi certification: the WPC database lists Apple’s MagSafe Charger A3502 as Qi v2.2.1 certified with the MPP25 profile. In other words, a product can carry Apple’s MagSafe branding and also be certified under the WPC standard.

How do the standards differ when you buy a charger?
| Label or feature | What it tells you | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| Qi | A WPC wireless-charging standard; Qi-certified chargers can work with compatible phones from different manufacturers. | It does not establish magnetic alignment or a specific charging speed for your phone. |
| Qi2 | A WPC standard with magnetic alignment through MPP; original Qi2 supports 15W. | It does not mean every phone can charge at 15W, or that every product described as “Qi” has Qi2 features. |
| Qi2 25W | The WPC brand for Qi v2.2.1 and its 25W profile. | It does not override the phone’s own limit, charger requirements or adapter requirements. |
| MagSafe | Apple’s magnetic charging and accessory brand. Some MagSafe chargers are also WPC-certified Qi2 products. | The brand alone does not establish the same speed for every iPhone or charger model. |
The WPC says Qi2 25W offers nearly 70% more power than original Qi2. That is a comparison of power tiers, not a claim that every phone charges 70% faster. The WPC also presents charging from 0 to 50% in about 30 minutes as a Qi2 25W capability; treat it as the WPC’s claim, not an independently tested result for a particular phone.
Will a Qi charger work with an iPhone?
Apple says iPhone 8 and later can charge wirelessly with Qi-certified accessories. Many Qi chargers charge iPhone at up to 7.5W, but the rate depends on the specific phone and charger. Apple recommends MagSafe or Qi2-certified chargers when you want faster wireless charging. A Qi label alone does not mean the charger has Qi2’s magnetic alignment or can deliver a faster tier.

- 【Strong Magnetic Alignment|Secure & Stable Charging】Equipped with an advanced magnetic array, the charger automatically aligns to the optimal charging position and holds your iPhone firmly in place (✅ no slipping even when shaken). ⚠️ Note: Non-MagSafe cases may weaken magnetic adsorption. For stronger attachment, we recommend using a MagSafe-compatible case.
- 【15W Fast Wireless Charging|Quick Power Boost】 Supports up to 15W fast charging for iPhone 15 series, delivering a 50% charge in just 30 minutes and a full charge in 2.5 hours (✅ 3x faster than standard 5W charging). ⚠️ Note: A 15W/20W or higher PD adapter is required to achieve maximum speed. Using an adapter below 10W may result in slower charging performance.
- 【Silent Breathing LED|Sleep-Friendly Design】Blue breathing pulse: Soft light during normal charging (automatically turns off after 1 minute, ✅ no sleep disturbance). Standby/abnormal alerts: Standby mode: Gentle green breathing light for 3 seconds before turning off. Foreign object detection: Rapid blue-green flashing for clear notification.

Do not assume all versions of Qi work identically with older gear. The WPC says Qi v2.0 devices are not required to be fully backward compatible with Qi 1.x-certified products. Check the phone and charger documentation for the exact combination, especially if you are pairing newer equipment with an older Qi accessory.

What charger do you need for 25W wireless charging?
Start with the exact phone model, then check the charger and adapter requirements for that model. Apple’s March 2026 guidance lists up to 25W MagSafe charging for selected iPhone models with specified MagSafe charger models and an appropriately rated adapter. Apple requires a 30W-or-greater adapter with output of 15V/2.0A or higher for that stated maximum. Actual output varies with the phone model, adapter and system conditions.

For a WPC-certified Qi2 25W charger, confirm that the phone supports the relevant profile and that the manufacturer’s requirements are met. The standard’s 25W capability cannot make a phone charge at 25W if its receiver or software limits it to a lower rate. Android charging support and maximum rates vary by manufacturer and exact model, so consult that phone maker’s specifications rather than assuming compatibility from the Qi2 label alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check a charger before buying
- Look up your exact phone model. Confirm its supported Qi, Qi2 or MagSafe behavior and maximum wireless-charging rate in the manufacturer’s documentation. Similar-looking models can have different limits.
- Verify the charger’s exact certification record. Search the WPC’s certified-products database by brand and model. The WPC says certified products undergo independent testing, but warns that a logo alone does not prove certification.
- Match the power tier to the phone. Distinguish standard Qi, original Qi2/MPP and Qi2 25W; then compare that tier with the phone’s own maximum.
- Check the wall adapter specification. Make sure the USB-C adapter meets the charger and phone maker’s stated wattage and output-profile requirements. An undersized adapter can prevent a supported combination from reaching its stated peak.
- Choose the form factor for how you use it. Magnetic attachment can make alignment easier; a stand or flat pad and a single-device or multi-device design affect placement and convenience, not by themselves the charging speed.
- Check version compatibility for older accessories. Read both devices’ documentation rather than assuming a Qi2 or Qi v2 charger will fully support Qi 1.x equipment.
Certification is useful evidence of interoperability testing, but it is not an endorsement and does not guarantee product safety, according to the WPC.

A concrete example: Apple MagSafe Charger A3502
The WPC database lists Apple MagSafe Charger, 1 m, model A3502 (Qi ID 23773), as Qi v2.2.1-certified with the MPP25 profile, a 25.0W potential load power and a certification date of January 29, 2026. That record identifies the charger’s certification and profile; it does not mean every iPhone will receive 25W. Apple’s model-specific support guidance and adapter conditions still determine whether a particular setup can reach its stated maximum.
The WPC’s Qi specification history also lists Qi 2.3, dated December 2025, while its standards overview calls Qi v2.2.1 “Qi2 25W.” These version labels should not be collapsed into a single assumption about power: check the exact product profile and device support rather than inferring a charger’s performance from “Qi” alone.
