Apple has not announced a “MacBook Ultra” or confirmed an OLED touchscreen Mac. The latest reporting points to a high-end MacBook Pro redesign with OLED, touch input and 14-inch and 16-inch options, possibly arriving in fall 2026—but the name, timing and specifications remain unconfirmed.
Is Apple making a touchscreen MacBook?
There is no Apple announcement confirming a touchscreen MacBook. The reports describe a product Apple may be developing, not a model available to order or a set of finalized specifications.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported on February 24, 2026 that Apple’s initial touch Macs were expected that fall and would have a Dynamic Island centered at the top of the display. He attributed those details to people familiar with Apple’s plans who were not authorized to discuss them publicly. The report described a touchscreen MacBook Pro, not an announced “MacBook Ultra.” Bloomberg’s February report
MacRumors’ March 8 summary said the rumored laptop could sit above existing M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models, rather than replace them. It also noted that Apple might keep the MacBook Pro name. “MacBook Ultra” is therefore a possible label discussed in reporting, not a confirmed product name. MacRumors’ March summary

When might the OLED touchscreen MacBook come out?
Fall 2026 is the window in the reporting, not a confirmed launch date. MacRumors’ September roundup described an October-to-December 2026 or early-2027 possibility and noted that supply constraints could affect timing. An October 1 item on that page quoted Gurman saying an October or November introduction was possible. He also said: “Apple, I believe, will introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this fall, as early as October.” That is a forecast, not an Apple announcement. MacRumors’ dated roundup and Gurman quote
Even if Apple introduces a model in fall 2026, the reports do not establish when it would ship or be available in a particular region. Treat any specific release day or order date as speculation unless Apple publishes it.

Should you buy a MacBook Pro now or wait?
The decision depends on your timing, whether the reported redesign would change how you work, and what price you would accept. None of those considerations verifies that the rumored model will ship as described.
Buy now if you need a Mac soon
A current M5 Pro MacBook Pro is a concrete buy-now comparison. MacRumors reported starting prices after a June 2026 increase of $2,499 for the 14-inch model and $2,999 for the 16-inch model. Those figures refer to current M5 Pro models, not a forecast for the rumored OLED MacBook. MacRumors’ September 23 price and rumor roundup

Wait if the rumored changes matter to your workflow
Waiting may make sense if you specifically want to evaluate touch input or OLED on a Mac, or if a potentially lighter redesign matters to you. The reports do not establish how touch will work in practice, what the display will offer, or whether those changes will appear in a shipping product.
