Neither the reviewed 2026 MacBook Air M5 nor the cited MacBook Pro models are established as touchscreen laptops. The Air’s display is explicitly non-touch; the available specifications do not support calling the Pro touch-enabled. For Mac buyers, the meaningful choice is instead portability and everyday work versus a higher-end display, more built-in ports, and better sustained performance on demanding workloads.
Does the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro have a touchscreen?
The 13-inch MacBook Air M5 reviewed by TechRadar does not support touch input. The cited specifications and coverage also provide no basis for describing the MacBook Pro as touchscreen-enabled. A Pro costs more for other capabilities, not for a touchscreen upgrade.

If tapping or drawing directly on a screen is essential, consider an iPad Air or iPad Pro with a compatible keyboard as a separate device option. It runs iPadOS, not macOS, so it is not a touchscreen MacBook substitute in every workflow.
MacBook Air M5 and MacBook Pro M5: what is being compared?
The specific examples in this comparison are Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air M5 and 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max. They are not a like-for-like configuration match: screen sizes and chip tiers differ. Compare the exact size and chip configurations that fit your workload, and check local pricing and availability before choosing.

Which display features matter in everyday use?
The Air’s Liquid Retina display is suited to common laptop work. The 14-inch Pro’s Liquid Retina XDR panel and higher-end display features are more relevant if you regularly work with demanding visual content or value the Pro’s display capabilities. Screen size and specifications vary across 13-inch and 15-inch Air models and 14-inch and 16-inch Pro models, so don’t assume every model shares the same panel or refresh rate.

When does MacBook Pro performance justify choosing it?
For browsing, office work, study, and light creative tasks, the Air is the sensible starting point. MacRumors’ March 20, 2026 buyer’s guide describes everyday Air performance as effectively indistinguishable from more expensive models. The Pro’s active cooling becomes more valuable when a demanding task runs for a long time and sustained performance matters—for example, extended renders or repeated exports.

This is a workload distinction, not a claim that every Pro is faster than every Air in every task. Results depend on the chip configuration and workload; choose a Pro when its cooling and higher-end capabilities solve a real, recurring need.
Do you need the Pro’s ports and external-display support?
The cited 15-inch Air has two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. The cited 14-inch Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max adds a third Thunderbolt port, HDMI, and an SDXC card slot, as well as support for up to three external displays with M5 Pro. That can simplify a desk setup involving wired monitors, camera cards, or several peripherals.

How should you interpret MacBook Air battery figures?
Apple’s 2026 claim for the 15-inch MacBook Air M5 is up to 18 hours of video streaming or up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing. These are manufacturer estimates tied to different usage types, not a promise of runtime for every workload. Separately, Tom’s Guide measured 15 hours 37 minutes in a continuous Wi-Fi web-browsing test with the display set to 150 nits. That lab result should not be compared directly with Apple’s video-streaming estimate.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose MacBook Air for a lighter everyday-work focus, if its screen and two built-in ports meet your needs, and if you do not regularly run sustained demanding tasks.
- Choose MacBook Pro if you benefit from its XDR display, active cooling for prolonged workloads, built-in HDMI and SDXC, or the cited M5 Pro model’s support for up to three external displays.
- Choose an iPad with a compatible keyboard if touch input is the deciding requirement and iPadOS suits your work better than macOS.
