Yes, a current Mac mini can run Cyberpunk 2077 natively, but the available evidence does not establish whether it is faster or cheaper than a similarly priced Windows gaming PC. CD PROJEKT RED publishes Mac performance targets for older Apple chips, while Apple’s current M6 claim is a relative comparison with an M4 Mac mini—not a head-to-head PC benchmark. Choose the Mac mini if you want a macOS desktop that also plays the game; choose a Windows PC if you want to select discrete PC components against the game’s published Windows requirements.
Can a Mac mini run Cyberpunk 2077?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED announced Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Apple-silicon Macs on July 17, 2025, naming Mac mini among the supported Mac families. The game requires Apple silicon, at least 16 GB of unified memory, and macOS 15.5 or later according to that announcement. The developer’s current Mac requirements page also specifies macOS 15.5 or later.

Compatibility is only the first check: not every Mac mini configuration is represented in the developer’s published performance tiers. Those tiers name M1, M2 Max, M3 Pro, M3 Max, M3 Ultra, and M4 Max—not the current M6 or M5 Pro.

The game’s “For This Mac” preset chooses resolution and graphics settings for an individual Mac. CD PROJEKT RED warns that higher resolution significantly affects FPS and recommends using the preset-assigned resolution on external displays. Its default Mac preset does not apply ray tracing, even on hardware that supports it. As the developer puts it, “For optimal experience, Ray Tracing is not applied in the default ‘For this Mac’ preset, regardless of your hardware’s capabilities.”
What Apple’s M6 claim does—and does not—show
Apple’s current Mac mini page lists M6 and M5 Pro models. Apple says the M6 Mac mini delivers 2.0x the gaming performance of the M4 Mac mini in Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition with ray tracing. That is Apple’s own Mac-to-Mac comparison; the cited page does not provide the FPS, test settings, or a Windows PC result. It therefore cannot establish that M6 beats a gaming PC, nor can it be directly equated with the developer’s default Mac preset, which disables ray tracing.

How does the Windows gaming PC target compare?
Steam’s Cyberpunk 2077 listing gives named Windows component examples. These are system requirements, not promises that every PC with those parts reaches a particular FPS under every setting.
| Windows tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics | Storage and API |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Core i7-6700 or Ryzen 5 1600 | 12 GB RAM | GTX 1060 6 GB, RX 580 8 GB, or Arc A380 | 70 GB available; SSD and DirectX 12 required |
| Recommended | Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 16 GB RAM | RTX 2060 SUPER, RX 5700 XT, or Arc A770 | 70 GB available; SSD and DirectX 12 required |
Steam’s listing does not attach a target FPS to these Windows tiers. A fair Mac-versus-PC FPS comparison would need the same game version, output resolution, graphics preset, ray tracing, upscaling or frame-generation settings, and test method. The available published requirements and Apple comparison do not provide that matched test, so an exact FPS winner remains unproven.

Which setup costs less?
No current price winner can be established from the cited product and requirements pages: Apple’s page confirms Mac mini models but does not provide captured prices here, and Steam lists PC components rather than a complete system price. Cost depends on the exact configuration and what the buyer already owns.
For a meaningful comparison, price complete setups in the same region and on the same date. Include the Mac mini or the Windows PC build, display and input devices if needed, a game license if needed, and any additional storage. Mark existing equipment separately from items that must be purchased. Without those matched assumptions and live prices, neither platform is established as cheaper.

Storage and storefront differences
For the Mac version, CD PROJEKT RED lists 92 GB for GOG, Epic Games Store, or Steam downloads, versus 159 GB for an App Store download. The developer says to allow extra room for installation and updates, and requires installation on an SSD. Steam lists 70 GB and an SSD requirement for Windows. These figures are platform-specific listed requirements, not a complete estimate of long-term storage needs.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →In its July 17, 2025 Mac-launch announcement, CD PROJEKT RED said owners of the game on the named other storefronts could download the Mac version there at no additional charge. That was the stated policy at announcement; check the current account and storefront terms before relying on it when calculating your cost.
What can you upgrade later?
The platforms present configuration choices differently. The Mac requirements are organized around Apple chips and unified-memory tiers; Windows requirements name processors and discrete graphics cards separately. That makes a Windows PC’s component targets easier to compare on paper, but it does not prove that every prebuilt PC allows every part to be replaced. Check the specific system’s manufacturer documentation before buying on the assumption that it can be upgraded.
Apple lists up to 32 GB of unified memory for M6 Mac mini and up to 64 GB for M5 Pro Mac mini. Those are configuration ceilings, not instructions or assurances that memory can be added after purchase. Choose a configuration that meets your expected needs rather than assuming a later memory upgrade.
Quick Recap
Which should you choose for Cyberpunk 2077?
- Choose a Mac mini if you want macOS for your desktop and value having a native Apple-silicon version of the game. Match the Mac configuration to the developer’s published tiers cautiously: the current M6 and M5 Pro are not named in those target-FPS tiers.
- Choose a Windows gaming PC if you want to select among discrete PC components and compare a build directly with Steam’s named minimum or recommended specifications. Those specifications do not by themselves predict exact FPS.
- Delay the performance decision if your choice depends on which platform delivers more frames per dollar. The available figures are not a same-price, same-settings Mac-versus-PC comparison.
