To see which apps on your Mac are connecting to the internet, use a network monitor that attributes connections to processes. Depending on the tool, you can inspect the app, destination and whether traffic is incoming or outgoing; some tools also draw a map. A connection record does not reveal what encrypted data contains or prove that an app is tracking you.
The supplied title refers to a personal connection map and “zero telemetry,” but no capture method, screenshots or implementation details are available to substantiate those claims. This article explains what a Mac connection map can show, what it cannot establish, and the documented tools you can use to observe or block traffic.

What a Mac connection map can—and cannot—tell you
A connection monitor links network activity to an app or process and may show the remote destination and direction. LuLu alerts identify the process and destination; Private Eye lets you filter connections by app and direction; Little Snitch Mini describes a live connection list, traffic diagrams and an animated worldwide map. The details displayed depend on the tool.
A map is a visualization of connection metadata, not a view into the contents of a connection. A location marker does not establish who operates a server, why an app contacted it, or what information was exchanged. Many connections are consistent with routine functions such as updates or syncing, but a destination alone cannot confirm that interpretation either. Treat an unfamiliar domain, IP address or location as a lead to investigate—not proof of tracking or wrongdoing.

To make a personal map meaningful, document how connections were captured, the observation period and what the map’s labels represent. A connection count without that context is easy to misread.
Choose a tool based on whether you want to observe or block
Monitoring and blocking are different jobs. Private Eye is described as a monitor; LuLu and Radio Silence add outgoing-connection blocking. Little Snitch Mini’s App Store listing describes monitoring at no charge and places blocking and additional features in its premium tier.

| Tool | What it shows or controls | Cost and requirements stated by the source |
|---|---|---|
| LuLu with Netiquette | LuLu alerts show the process and destination for unknown outgoing connections. Its menu can launch Objective-See’s Netiquette network monitor. LuLu can block outgoing connections. | Free and open source; product page lists version 4.5.1 for macOS 10.15 and later. Setup requires approval of a System Extension and Network Filter in macOS. |
| Private Eye | Tracks new connections while open; filter by app and separate incoming from outgoing. The cited product page presents it as a monitor, not a blocker. | Free. Vendor page states OS X Lion or later; check the download page for current compatibility before installing. |
| Little Snitch Mini | Free monitoring includes a real-time connection list, traffic diagrams and animated worldwide map. Blocking, longer history and extra display or filter options are listed as premium features. | App Store listing; check the current listing for compatibility and purchase terms. |
| Radio Silence | Real-time connection monitoring and one-click app blocking. | Download page lists version 3.4 for macOS 10.15 and later and includes macOS Tahoe installation guidance. The product page advertises a free trial and a $9 purchase; check current terms and price before buying. |

- Decide whether you only need visibility. If you want to see which apps connect and where, start with a monitor. If you may want to stop a particular app’s outgoing traffic, choose a tool that also supports blocking.
- Install from the tool’s official page or App Store listing. Confirm compatibility and current purchase terms there, because versions, requirements and prices can change.
- Allow the monitor to collect useful activity. Private Eye tracks new connections while it is open. LuLu’s first-run choices affect how many alerts you see: its default configuration can allow Apple and already-installed programs without alerts.
- On LuLu, approve the requested macOS components. Its setup requires approval for the System Extension and Network Filter in macOS settings. The exact steps can vary by macOS version; follow LuLu’s current installation guide.
- Review the process, destination and direction together. Note which app made the connection, where it went and whether it was incoming or outgoing. Check the app’s expected behavior before deciding what the activity means.
- Block selectively, if warranted. Blocking can interrupt an app’s updates, syncing or other network-dependent features. If you use a firewall rule, observe what changes and remove the rule if it causes problems.
LuLu documents a hostname-rule limitation: hostname blocking applies to connections using Network.framework or NSURLSession. For browsers that do not use those frameworks, its documentation says IP-based blocking is supported instead. See the LuLu product page for details.

Incoming and outgoing connections are not the same
An outgoing connection originates on your Mac, such as when an app contacts a remote service. An incoming connection is made to your Mac from elsewhere. Radio Silence’s monitoring guide notes that having no incoming connections is normal for many people who are not running a server. Seeing an incoming connection is not, by itself, enough to determine whether it is harmful.
macOS’s Local Network privacy permission is narrower than a general internet-connection monitor. Apple describes it as controlling which programs may interact with devices on your local network, with a permission request when a program first accesses that network. It is not an all-purpose display of every connection to the internet. See Apple’s TN3179.

What “zero telemetry” would need to mean
A map can be generated from observed connection metadata without proving that the observing tool itself sends no information. A defensible “zero telemetry” claim needs a defined scope: which component is being described, what data could be sent, and how that conclusion was reached.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For LuLu specifically, Objective-See says its own update check can be disabled and that the check sends no user or product information. It also says a VirusTotal request is generated only when the user clicks the alert button. Those are documented behaviors of LuLu; they do not verify a separate map’s telemetry behavior or prove that every app shown in a map has no telemetry.
