“DISM error – file not found” does not identify one specific failure. First note the full error code and command: 0x80070002 means Windows could not find a specified file, while 0x800F081F means servicing could not find a source for a package or file. Those codes point to different problems, so the wording alone is not enough to diagnose the error.
What the DISM “file not found” error means
DISM errors can include similar missing-file wording while referring to different failures. Microsoft defines 0x80070002 as ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND. The code indicates that the operation could not find a specified file, but it does not identify which file or why.

Start with the exact command and Windows image
Before changing repair sources, write down the full error code, the command you ran, and your Windows edition, version, and build. Also establish whether the command targets the running installation with /Online or an offline Windows image. “File not found” by itself does not show whether the issue is a source that cannot be reached, a source that lacks the required files, a missing package payload, or another servicing problem.

Scan and repair an online Windows image
Check whether the image is repairable
From an elevated Command Prompt, scan the running Windows image:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealthMicrosoft’s image-repair guidance says to use RestoreHealth when the image is reported repairable. If the scan reports that the image is non-repairable, the guidance is to discard that image and start again. The Windows image repair guidance documents these options.

Run RestoreHealth
For a repairable online image, run this command in an elevated Command Prompt:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthDISM checks the component store for corruption and attempts repairs. Microsoft notes that the operation can take several minutes. The documented Windows Update corruption and installation-failure guidance describes this repair workflow.

Choose a repair source if DISM cannot find the required files
For online repairs, DISM can use Windows Update to obtain missing or corrupted files. If Windows Update is unavailable, Microsoft also identifies a working Windows installation or Windows files on a network share, USB drive, or DVD as possible sources. The source must actually contain the files required by the target image; no single ISO index or command line is right for every Windows build and repair case.
Use the /Source option to point DISM at a local or alternate source. Check that the path is correct and that the source is suitable for the image being repaired. A USB drive is only a carrier for Windows source files; the drive itself does not repair the image.

Use /LimitAccess only when you intend to prevent DISM from contacting Windows Update. If you want Windows Update to provide missing files, do not add that option. Microsoft’s DISM servicing command-line options define /LimitAccess as preventing contact with Windows Update for online-image repair.

sfc /scannowIf DISM fails, note when it failed and inspect the logs around that time. The Component-Based Servicing log is at %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log; DISM also writes its own log. Look for entries that match the command and error code rather than treating the phrase “file not found” as a complete diagnosis. A specific cause requires the exact command, Windows build, error code, and relevant log entries.
