LiquidStack Unveils CDU 2.X Liquid-Cooling Platform for AI Data Centers

LiquidStack’s CDU 2.X is a configurable coolant distribution unit for evolving AI data-center infrastructure, with shipments expected to start in Q2 2027.

LiquidStack announced CDU 2.X, a configurable coolant distribution unit (CDU) for AI data centers, on September 29, 2026, at Yotta 2026 in Ireland. The company says one CDU architecture can support multiple current and emerging AI silicon platforms, giving operators options to adapt cooling as hardware and rack densities change. CDU 2.X is available for preorder, with shipments expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027.

What LiquidStack announced

CDU 2.X is designed to distribute coolant for liquid-cooled data-center equipment. LiquidStack describes it as architecture-agnostic: a single CDU architecture intended to accommodate multiple current and emerging AI silicon platforms. The company’s stated aim is to let operators configure cooling around their facility and deployment plans instead of redesigning facility infrastructure each time a platform changes. These are vendor-stated design goals, not independently validated outcomes.

Scott Smith, LiquidStack’s general manager at Trane Technologies, said operators need cooling infrastructure that can adapt as GPU platforms and rack densities evolve. He said CDU 2.X combines flexibility for current needs with headroom for future deployments. That is the company’s positioning; the announcement does not include independent testing to substantiate the claimed performance or flexibility.

Deployment and facility options

LiquidStack says CDU 2.X can be deployed at the end of a row or adjacent to a rack. The company also lists configurable control valves, power feeds and redundancy arrangements, including dual-feed A/B and automatic transfer switch options. These choices are intended to accommodate different facility layouts and resilience requirements; the announcement does not specify which configuration a particular site should choose.

Published temperature and flow claims

LiquidStack says the system supports facility inlet temperatures up to 45°C and is designed for lower approach temperatures. Network World reports a maximum flow rate of 3,750 liters per minute at 3.5 bar, attributing that specification to LiquidStack. These are company-reported product specifications, not independently measured results. The reviewed announcements do not provide independent CDU 2.X test data, efficiency measurements or named customer deployments.

Availability, pricing and what buyers should verify

LiquidStack says CDU 2.X is available for preorder and expects shipments to begin in Q2 2027. The announcement does not state a price or detailed ordering terms. For an enterprise evaluation, buyers will need to confirm configuration-specific specifications, compatibility with their intended equipment and facility, delivery details, and the evidence available for performance under their operating conditions.

A useful comparison should look beyond headline flow and temperature claims. Evaluate architecture compatibility, end-of-row versus rack-adjacent placement, power and redundancy choices, the relevant temperature envelope, capacity and flow data, shipment timing, and the quality of independent validation. The reviewed material does not establish how CDU 2.X compares with competitors on price, independently measured efficiency or deployed performance.

CDU 2.X is separate from GigaModular

LiquidStack’s other high-capacity platform, GigaModular, has a different product timeline and its figures should not be attributed to CDU 2.X. LiquidStack unveiled GigaModular in June 2025 as a modular direct-to-chip CDU with capacity up to 10 MW. In May 2026, the company said GigaModular was commercially available with expanded capacity up to 14 MW, had completed multi-module integration and full-load testing for deployments up to that capacity, and had achieved ETL certification. Those claims refer to GigaModular, not the newly announced CDU 2.X.

Separately, in January 2026 LiquidStack reported an order for 300 MW of CDU capacity from an unnamed major U.S. data-center operator. The company specified CDU-1MW for that order; it did not identify the order as a CDU 2.X deployment. LiquidStack also said it was included on NVIDIA’s Recommended Vendor List for CDUs. Both statements are company-reported and do not establish a CDU 2.X customer installation.
