Linux Mint 27, code-named “Adrien,” is scheduled for release at Christmas, the Linux Mint project announced on October 13, 2026. The project has not named a specific release day. The new version is planned to use Ubuntu 26.04 as its base and to offer Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE editions.

When is Linux Mint 27 coming out?

Linux Mint’s September 2026 monthly update, published October 13, says the next release is “scheduled for Christmas.” That is the project’s target, not a promise of a particular day: the announcement gives no exact date and says the beta phase is expected to be busy. No beta date is stated. Linux Mint’s announcement is the latest official release schedule covered here.

The project had also described Christmas as a target in its March update, when it was still working out the release strategy. The October announcement now confirms the release name and planned numbering, superseding the temporary “Mint 23 Alfa” label used for that early development work. The March update is useful as a record of that earlier stage, not as a final specification.

What is confirmed about Linux Mint 27?

  • Name: Linux Mint 27 “Adrien.”
  • Schedule: Christmas, with no exact day announced.
  • Base: Ubuntu 26.04, according to the project.
  • Planned editions: at least Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE.

The project says release numbers will represent the upcoming year and that it will stop issuing point releases. After Linux Mint 27, the next release number will be 28, followed by 29 and so on. This explains why the earlier provisional “Mint 23 Alfa” label no longer applies: the project had not yet settled its naming and numbering approach in March.

Which features are planned, but not final?

Linux Mint explicitly describes the features in its September post as previews that are still being worked on. They are plans for the next version, not a final feature list or a guarantee that each item will ship.

Clocks alarm app

One preview is Clocks, an alarm application in the Clockenstein project. The project says it is intended to support recurring alarms, custom sounds, and notifications even when the app is not running. Clem says its interface and behavior take inspiration from Android. These are proposed capabilities, not confirmed final-release specifications.

Other work in progress

The September update also reports ongoing work on bug fixes, Wayland compatibility, development processes, internal tools, and prototypes for new editions. It does not establish what the final Wayland support will include or identify the functions and status of three projects—Superlight, Unfold, and Velocitty—which it said would be discussed the following month.

A May update previewed additional changes: improvements to Nemo navigation and interactive search; a Cinnamon screenshot utility with window-shadow and monitor-selection options; visual changes to Mint themes and dialogs; and Cinnamon support for WPA3 and OWE. These, too, were presented as planned work rather than a final specification. The May update describes those proposals.

Why early development details are not the final spec

The March update described a then-current development build under the temporary name “Mint 23 Alfa.” That snapshot used Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Linux kernel 7.0, Cinnamon 6.7-unstable, CJS 140, and a live installer ported from LMDE. Those details describe the March build only; the project’s later announcement does not confirm them as the versions or installer for the finished Linux Mint 27 release.

The edition announcement likewise names Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE without comparing their system requirements, workflows, accessibility, or performance. The project’s release post does not provide enough information to rank them or recommend one for a particular computer.
