There is no distinct Linux Foundation report formally titled “Linux Community Survey” in the official sources covered here. If you want to find surveys currently open to the Linux community, use the Linux Foundation’s LF Research and Community Surveys directory. To take part in surveys, interviews, or other research activities, the Linux Foundation invites interested open source community members to join the LF Research Forum.

Where to find Linux Foundation community surveys

Visit the LF Research and Community Surveys page. The Linux Foundation says it lists active surveys when they are available. At the time the page was reviewed, it listed the 2026 Cloud Native Workloads Survey and the 2026 Cloud Native Annual Survey; the directory can change, so check it for current availability rather than relying on a fixed list.

You can browse the directory without first joining the forum. Finding a survey there and enrolling in the LF Research Forum are separate actions.

How to participate through the LF Research Forum

The Linux Foundation’s research page invites community members to join the LF Research Forum and participate in surveys and interviews. The 2025 prospectus describes the forum as founded in 2024 for Linux Foundation subscribers, members, and partners who share an interest in open source and are willing to contribute to research. It describes participation as potentially including surveys, interviews, or other research activities.

The prospectus identifies intended participant groups, but the reviewed public materials do not explain detailed current signup requirements or a step-by-step enrollment process. Start with the official research page for the current invitation; do not assume membership eligibility or enrollment terms beyond what it states.

What the forum does—and what survey results mean

LF Research describes its work as empirical research on open source software, hardware, standards, and data. The forum is one way for community members to contribute. The 2025 prospectus also describes data collection through Linux Foundation community lists and research partners. Collection through these channels is on a best-efforts basis; for some studies, a shortfall against a target sample may be addressed with a third-party panel provider, with the study sponsor bearing the cost.

Those operational details do not establish the sampling method or representativeness of any particular survey. For conclusions about a specific study, consult that study’s methodology rather than assuming that forum participants represent all Linux users or the wider open source community.

Possible event and training discounts

The Linux Foundation’s research invitation says participants can “earn events & training discounts.” The reviewed public materials do not specify the discount amount, eligibility conditions, or whether every participant receives an offer. Treat discounts as a possible benefit, not a guaranteed payment or fixed reward, and check the current terms with the Linux Foundation.

An example of LF Research community research

The Open Source Software Developer Report is one example of LF Research community research; it is not established as a report formally named “Linux Community Survey.” The report page says Intel sponsored LF Research to ask open source developers, “What do you need to advance your career?” It highlights learning new skills and connecting with other developers as career-growth themes, and describes meetups and open source events as valued sources of inspiration and motivation. These are findings and statements presented on that report page, not universal claims about every Linux user or every survey respondent.
