LG says these settings are common causes and recommends turning Energy Saving Step off and selecting Standard mode. The menus vary by webOS version, and the change may need to be made separately for each input.
Start with Energy Saving and Picture Mode
LG’s troubleshooting guidance says a dark or dim picture is usually associated with Energy Saving being enabled or Picture Mode being set incorrectly. Turn Energy Saving Step off, then select Standard Picture Mode. LG’s instructions are for its TVs; they do not establish that these settings explain every dark television.

Turn Energy Saving Step off
Use the route that matches your TV’s webOS generation. These are LG’s standard-model instructions; labels or paths may differ on a particular model.

Select Standard Picture Mode
LG lists these routes for Picture Mode:
- 2021 and newer: Settings > All Settings > Picture > Select Mode, then choose Standard or Vivid.
- 2020 and older: Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode Settings > Picture Mode.
Standard is LG’s recommended troubleshooting choice. Picture settings may differ by input, so if the picture remains dim after changing modes, check the setting again while using the affected HDMI input, broadcast source, or app.
If the picture is still dim
If switching off Energy Saving and selecting Standard does not help, LG recommends resetting the picture settings. The reset route can vary by model, so use the TV’s on-screen settings or LG support instructions for that model rather than assuming a single universal path.

Also check that the HDMI or antenna connection is secure if the problem occurs with a connected source. LG lists loose connections and possible TV hardware issues among other causes of picture trouble; a cable purchase is not automatically needed just because a connection should be checked.

Stop troubleshooting through the menus if the screen is too dark to read them, or if only part of the screen is dark. LG says those symptoms may indicate an internal issue and recommends contacting support. If the picture remains dim after the settings checks and reset, contact LG for model-specific help.
