You can change how smooth motion looks on an LG OLED with TruMotion, but this does not change the actual frame rate produced by a console, PC, or streaming service. For a higher game or video input rate, configure the source device and confirm that your specific TV model, HDMI connection, and content support it.
Choose the setting that matches what you want to change
| Setting or term | What it changes | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| TruMotion | TV-side processing that can make movement appear smoother; it does not make the source render more frames. | Adjusting perceived motion in TV or film content, if the option is available. |
| Source frame rate | The frames per second (fps) produced or sent by a console, PC, or other source. | Changing a game’s performance mode or a device’s video-output settings. |
| VRR | Variable refresh behavior that can synchronize a compatible display with a supported gaming source. | Gaming with compatible hardware; it is separate from TruMotion and the game’s rendered fps. |
| Refresh rate | How often the display refreshes, measured in hertz (Hz). It is related to, but not the same as, source frame rate. | Checking whether the TV and source support a particular signal format. |
Menu labels and supported signal formats vary by LG OLED model, region, picture mode, and webOS version. Check your model’s documentation rather than assuming a maximum refresh rate. For example, LG’s UK product page lists 4K 120 fps over HDMI for the 2024 B4; that is a specification for that product, not every LG OLED.

Adjust TruMotion for smoother-looking movement
webOS 22 and the documented 2021/webOS 6.0 route
- Press the Settings button on the remote. If there is no Settings button, press Home and select the on-screen Settings icon.
- Open All Settings → Picture → Advanced Settings → Clarity → TruMotion.
- Choose an option available for your TV and current picture mode. LG describes options such as cinematic, natural, and smooth motion in its Xbox troubleshooting guide. The result depends on the model, setting, and content.
LG also documents this Clarity route for webOS 6.0. Guide illustrations and menus may differ from your TV.

Enable VRR or G-Sync for compatible gaming
On LG’s documented webOS 22 route, select Settings → All Settings → General → Game Optimizer → Game → VRR & G-Sync → On. LG says this control is available only with an HDMI connection and when Screen Mode is set to Game Optimizer. Compatibility depends on the TV and graphics card; check the LG VRR and G-Sync guide for the documented conditions.

VRR changes how a compatible display and gaming source coordinate refresh timing. It does not raise the game’s rendered frame rate, and it is not the same setting as TruMotion.
If you want a higher actual game or PC frame rate
Start with the source device, not TruMotion. Check the game’s graphics or performance mode and the console or PC video-output settings. Then verify that the TV model, selected HDMI port, connection, and game support the resolution and refresh mode you want. A compatible cable is only one part of the signal path; a cable by itself cannot make an unsupported TV, port, or source output a higher rate.

For games running below 60 Hz, LG’s July 17, 2026 console troubleshooting pages give situation-specific advice: the Xbox page describes turning off certain console options for its case, while the PS5 page points to the console’s ALLM setting. Follow those steps only when the circumstances match the guide. LG notes that TruMotion may smooth the presentation of some low-frame-rate games, but it cannot be selected while Game mode is active and does not increase the game’s rendered fps.
