Verdict up front: The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 is a compact, gaming-first Android tablet that pairs an 8.8-inch 165Hz display with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance, 12GB of RAM and fast storage. It is unusually portable and quick for demanding games, but its 6,550mAh battery does not deliver all-day unplugged gaming. Buy it for size, responsiveness and portable play; choose a larger tablet or a newer generation if sustained battery life or a broad productivity canvas matters more.

Identify the exact Legion Tab before you buy

This review covers the Legion Tab Gen 3, Lenovo model TB321FU, the 8.8-inch version. Lenovo also lists a Legion Tab Gen 5 in its current product references, so a listing that simply says “Legion Tab” is not specific enough. Check the model number and generation before comparing specifications, battery claims or prices.

The Gen 3 configuration discussed here uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system-on-chip, 12GB of LPDDR5X memory and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Lenovo positions it as a small, high-performance Android tablet rather than a replacement for a large laptop-style work screen.

What the Gen 3 offers

Specification Legion Tab Gen 3 (TB321FU) Why it matters
Screen 8.8-inch LTPS touchscreen More hand-held than an 11- or 13-inch tablet
Resolution and aspect ratio 2560 × 1600, 16:10 Sharp text and a shape suited to games and video
Refresh rate 165Hz Allows a very responsive interface and high frame-rate output when a game supports it
Brightness 500 nits typical; 900 nits high-brightness mode Useful headroom for bright environments, subject to mode and conditions
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Flagship-class Android performance for this compact format
Memory 12GB LPDDR5X Supports demanding games and multitasking
Storage 256GB UFS 4.0 Fast internal storage, though large game libraries consume space quickly
Battery 6,550mAh typical Capacity is substantial for the size, but workload determines endurance
Charging and ports Two USB-C ports, USB Power Delivery, bypass charging; Lenovo recommends a 68W charger Convenient charging and the ability to reduce battery stress while plugged in
Cellular connectivity No WWAN support listed for this configuration It is a Wi-Fi tablet, not a mobile-data tablet

These are Lenovo’s published specifications for the Gen 3. They describe capability, not guaranteed frame rates or battery time in every game.

The 8.8-inch 165Hz display is the main reason to choose it

Compact without being cramped

An 8.8-inch panel occupies a middle ground between a phone and a conventional tablet. It is easier to hold for a long gaming session and easier to fit on a small desk, tray or travel bag than an 11-inch model. The 16:10 shape gives games and video more horizontal room than a square-ish tablet while retaining enough height for menus, chat and web pages.

Sharp, fast and bright on paper

Lenovo specifies 2560 × 1600 resolution, which keeps text and game interfaces crisp at this size. The 165Hz refresh rate can make scrolling, touch response and supported games look fluid. It does not mean every title renders at 165 frames per second: frame rate depends on the game engine, graphics settings, thermal state and the tablet’s selected performance mode.

Brightness is rated at 500 nits in typical use and up to 900 nits in a high-brightness mode. The higher figure is a mode-specific maximum, not a promise that the display remains at 900 nits continuously in every situation. Brightness, refresh rate and wireless activity also influence battery drain.

Gaming performance: flagship power in a small chassis

What the hardware enables

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage give the Gen 3 the ingredients for demanding Android games, fast app loading and a responsive system interface. Lenovo adds a Legion Coldfront vapor-chamber cooling design. Cooling can help the tablet hold performance longer, but a vapor chamber cannot remove the basic trade-off between high sustained power, surface temperature and battery consumption.

Independent game observations

Android Authority reported running Genshin Impact at High graphics and 60fps, with performance near 60fps for most of its session and a brief drop during a cutscene transition. The same review found Bright Memory Infinite often stayed above 100fps during action. Those are observations from one review unit, firmware version and test setup; they are useful evidence of capability, not a universal result for every game or setting.

  • BIG SCREEN. FAMILY-SIZED FUN: A bright, engaging 11" screen¹ with a refresh rate up to 90Hz delivers natural, fluid motion, making it easy for every family member to stream, play and do what they love.
  • SURROUND YOURSELF WITH RICH AUDIO SOUND: Whether you're watching a movie or listening to your favorite playlist, immerse yourself in a cinema-like audio experience with quad speakers powered by Dolby Atmos on Galaxy Tab A11+

In practical terms, the tablet’s strength is sustained responsiveness in games that offer appropriate frame-rate modes. Competitive titles that can render above 60fps are the clearest beneficiaries of the 165Hz panel. Graphically heavy games may need a choice between higher image quality and a steadier frame rate, just as they do on larger Snapdragon tablets.

Battery life depends more on workload than on the capacity number

Lenovo’s internal maximums

Workload Approximate maximum How to read it
Online video playback 16.06 hours Lenovo PSREF internal-test maximum, 2026
Web browsing 16.44 hours Lenovo PSREF internal-test maximum, 2026
Online meeting 18.58 hours Lenovo PSREF internal-test maximum, 2026
Online music playback 68.24 hours Lenovo PSREF internal-test maximum, 2026

Lenovo labels these figures approximate maximums under controlled conditions. Its PSREF states: “All battery life claims are approximate and based on internal testing under optimal laboratory and network conditions.” The company also notes that configuration, software, operating conditions, wireless features, power settings and screen brightness change actual results. These figures should therefore be treated as an upper-bound reference for lighter activities, not as a guaranteed mixed-use day.

Independent general-use result

Tom’s Guide recorded 15 hours and 40 minutes in its laboratory battery test in 2025. The publication also reported charging the tablet from empty to 38% in 30 minutes. Both figures belong to that outlet’s test procedure and review unit; they are not a promise for a different charger, region, firmware build or workload.

What happens during demanding games

Android Authority observed a 20% battery drop after about 30 minutes of intensive gaming and estimated roughly two and a half hours of serious gaming from a full charge in its conditions. Game choice, graphics quality, brightness, refresh setting, wireless connection and power mode can move that result substantially. The important distinction is that long video or browsing endurance cannot be extrapolated to high-load 3D gaming.

Lenovo Idea Tab Plus - Lightweight Tablet - 12.1″ 2.5K IPS Touchscreen Display - 90Hz - MediaTek Dimensity 6400-8GB Memory - 128GB Storage - Integrated Arm Mali-G57 MC2 - tab Pen & Folio case
  • A VIBRANT, SLIMMER BUILD FOR SHARPER MINDS – Engage in AI-powered smart learning on the stylish Lenovo Idea Tab Plus. The svelte tablet packs a powerful punch with quad speakers, sharp graphics, and all-day battery life.
  • CARRY LIGHT, FEEL BRIGHT – Weighing just over a pound, the Idea Tab Plus is light enough to carry from morning to night and thin enough to easily slip between your notebooks. The Luna Grey color is soft, fresh, and designed to feel just right anywhere.
  • CIRCLE TO SEARCH – Stay focused and use your Lenovo Tab Pen or fingertip to circle items for instant search results or to translate other languages without switching apps. Circle to Search is powered by Google.
  • LET YOUR LEARNING CLICK – Write, organize, sketch, and calculate with four learning apps built to match your flow. Lenovo Notepad, Squid, Nebo, and MyScript Calculator help you stay clear, focused, and ready for every study session.
  • MORE TO SEE, MORE TO ENJOY – The 12.1″ 2.5K display delivers rich color and sharp detail. With TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light and up to 800 nits brightness, the display keeps every frame clear in any light.

For a player who spends most sessions in demanding titles, plan charging around the game rather than around Lenovo’s light-use maximums. Bypass charging can be useful at a desk because power can be directed to the system while reducing the need to cycle the battery, but it does not make an unplugged session longer.

Charging, ports and connectivity shape the use case

Two USB-C ports

Two USB-C ports give the Gen 3 more flexibility than a single-port tablet. Lenovo lists USB Power Delivery support and recommends a 68W charger. The charger included in the box, if any, depends on the region and package, so verify the exact retail bundle before assuming the recommended adapter is supplied.

Having a port available while another is used for charging can simplify a desk setup or accessory connection, although the exact behavior of peripherals depends on the accessory and software. Use a compatible USB-C PD charger from a reputable maker and check its output rather than assuming every USB-C brick can deliver the recommended speed.

Wi-Fi rather than cellular data

Lenovo lists no WWAN support for this Gen 3 configuration. If you need gaming or streaming away from Wi-Fi, you will need a phone hotspot or another network source. A cellular tablet is a different buying category, not an interchangeable version of this model.

Optional stylus and controller accessories

The Tab Pen Plus is not bundled according to Lenovo’s specification information. Compatibility is model-specific, so confirm that a pen listing explicitly supports the TB321FU before buying. A folio case, USB-C PD charger and telescopic controller are sensible optional additions, but fit, port clearance and regional availability should be checked for the Gen 3 rather than assumed from a similarly sized tablet.

Remote play and everyday tablet use

The compact screen is well suited to remote play when the network is stable. Tom’s Guide described using the Gen 3 for Xbox and PC remote play with a telescopic controller. That is a reviewer’s use case, not a guarantee of latency or image quality: results depend on the host hardware, Wi-Fi or mobile connection, service settings and controller compatibility.

Outside games, the 8.8-inch display can handle video, reading, browsing and ordinary Android applications while remaining easier to carry than a large tablet. The trade-off is workspace. Split-screen documents, spreadsheets and creative applications have less room than on an 11- or 13-inch device, and the lack of WWAN makes it less convenient for connected work away from Wi-Fi.

Who should buy the Legion Tab Gen 3?

It is a strong fit for

  • Players who want a genuinely portable Android gaming screen rather than a full-size tablet.
  • People who value a high-refresh display for supported games, scrolling and remote play.
  • Travelers who prefer local Android games, streaming or emulation-sized workloads on a compact device.
  • Users who can charge during long, demanding sessions and mainly need maximum performance in a small format.
  • Buyers who want two USB-C ports, USB-PD and bypass charging for a desk or controller setup.

Look elsewhere if you need

  • Several hours of demanding 3D gaming away from a charger as the primary requirement.
  • A large canvas for split-screen productivity, drawing or extensive document work.
  • Built-in cellular connectivity; this configuration has no WWAN support listed.
  • The newest Legion platform and the benefit of a newer generation’s larger rated battery.
  • A bundled stylus; Lenovo says the Tab Pen Plus is an optional purchase.

Gen 3 versus Legion Tab Gen 5: how to compare in 2026

Gen 3 is not Lenovo’s newest Legion Tab. Lenovo’s Gen 5 PSREF lists a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform and a 9,000mAh typical battery. Those specifications establish it as a newer same-family alternative, but they do not prove a particular percentage improvement in battery life or gaming speed. A fair comparison requires matching test methods, brightness, refresh setting, game, firmware and ambient temperature.

Decision factor Gen 3 evidence How to compare with Gen 5
Processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Check the same benchmark and power mode on both devices
Battery capacity 6,550mAh typical Gen 5 is listed at 9,000mAh typical; capacity alone does not establish runtime
Gaming endurance Independent testing shows a sharp drop under heavy load Use the same game, graphics, brightness and session length
Display priorities 8.8-inch, 2560 × 1600, 165Hz, 500-nit typical Compare refresh rate, brightness, resolution and actual size, not just the generation number
Portability Compact 8.8-inch format Compare dimensions and weight against how you hold or carry each model
Price and stock Not established here Check your country’s current SKU, price, warranty and charger bundle

Notebookcheck has published Gen 5 stress-test material, but stress results are meaningful only with their individual protocol, software versions and device settings attached. Do not combine a Gen 3 battery maximum from Lenovo with a Gen 5 independent stress result and call the difference a direct generation gain.

Buying checklist for the TB321FU

  1. Confirm the model: look for TB321FU and an explicit Gen 3 designation.
  2. Confirm the package: check whether the seller includes a charger and which wattage; regional bundles differ.
  3. Check connectivity: assume Wi-Fi use unless the listing clearly documents a supported cellular model.
  4. Match expectations to workload: use independent gaming observations for heavy play and Lenovo’s figures only as controlled light-use references.
  5. Budget for accessories only if needed: verify TB321FU compatibility for a case, controller, charger or Tab Pen Plus.
  6. Compare generations at the time of purchase: Gen 5 is newer, but select it only if its current price, size and tested endurance fit your priorities.

Pros and limitations

Strengths Limitations
Very portable 8.8-inch gaming format Heavy gaming can exhaust the battery in a few hours
165Hz, high-resolution display 165Hz does not guarantee 165fps in games
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 12GB LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 Results vary by game, mode, firmware and temperature
Two USB-C ports, USB-PD and bypass charging Recommended 68W charger and package contents vary by region
Useful for local play, media and remote play No WWAN support listed; smaller workspace than a large tablet
Optional pen and controller ecosystem Tab Pen Plus is not included and compatibility must be checked

Final verdict

The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 is best understood as a compact performance tablet, not a miniature laptop and not an all-day unplugged gaming machine. Its combination of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 12GB RAM, fast storage and a 165Hz 8.8-inch display makes demanding Android games and remote play feel unusually immediate in a device that is easy to hold. The 6,550mAh battery is capable for lighter activities, yet independent testing shows why serious gaming needs realistic charging plans. In 2026, it remains a sensible choice when portability and gaming responsiveness outrank maximum endurance, cellular data and a large productivity screen.
