LEGO UCS AT-ST Walker 75417 vs standard AT-ST 75322: Size, detail and play features compared

The UCS AT-ST Walker 75417 is a large, adult-oriented display model; the standard Hoth AT-ST 75322 is smaller, closer to minifigure scale and much better equipped for play. The UCS set has 1,513 pieces, a detailed interior, thicker sculptural proportions and a printed information plaque. The 75322 has 586 pieces, three character minifigures, an Imperial Probe Droid, spring-loaded shooters and a rotating head. A third set, the 4+ AT-ST 75332, is a compact beginner model rather than a direct rival to either one.

This comparison uses LEGO’s US product information available in 2026 and a 2026 GamesRadar review for the UCS model. Prices and stock can change, especially because 75322 is retired in the United States and 75417 was temporarily out of stock on LEGO’s US site when checked.

The meaningful head-to-head comparison is 75417 against 75322. Set 75332 is included only to prevent a common mix-up: it is a very small starter set, not a like-for-like alternative in size, complexity or display impact.

How much bigger is the UCS AT-ST?

Height and footprint

At 14.5 inches (37 cm), the UCS 75417 stands roughly 38% taller than the 75322’s published 10.5-inch (26 cm) baseline. Because LEGO describes the 75322 as “over 10.5 inches” high, the exact percentage is slightly lower than 38% for a particular assembled example. The UCS model is also substantially wider: its 8.5-by-8.5-inch footprint compares with the standard set’s 6-by-5-inch footprint.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Using those published rectangular dimensions as a rough shelf-planning guide, the UCS occupies about 72.25 square inches, versus about 30 square inches for the 75322. The real support area is shaped by the feet and leg angles, but the difference is large enough to matter when choosing a cabinet, desk or display riser.

What the dimensions mean in a room

  • UCS 75417: plan for at least 15 inches of unobstructed vertical space, with extra room above the model for opening panels and lifting it safely.
  • 75322: it fits more easily on a normal shelf and leaves more room for a tauntaun, probe droid or other Hoth scenery.
  • 75332: its 4.5-inch-plus height makes it portable and suitable for a child’s small play area, but it does not create the imposing silhouette associated with an AT-ST display model.

Scale: display sculpture versus minifigure scene

The most important conceptual difference is scale. GamesRadar describes 75417 as not being minifigure scale. Its broad central chassis, thick legs and oversized feet are designed to look convincing as a standalone mechanical sculpture, not to place a minifigure inside at a realistic ratio.

The 75322 is much closer to the proportions used for LEGO Star Wars play scenes. Its cockpit, doors and weapons are sized to work with the included pilot, Rebel Trooper and Chewbacca. That makes it the more natural choice for recreating a Hoth ambush, arranging opposing troops or combining the walker with other play-scale vehicles.

Neither approach is automatically more accurate. The UCS interpretation prioritizes the visual mass and engineering of an isolated screen vehicle; the standard interpretation prioritizes interaction with characters and scenery. Decide whether the walker will normally stand alone on a shelf or operate as one element in a larger battle before comparing smaller details.

Piece count and construction experience

UCS 75417: a long, technically demanding build

With 1,513 pieces and an 18+ rating, 75417 is built for an adult builder who wants a substantial project. GamesRadar reviewer Mike Harris reported about five hours for the build and characterized it as a hard challenge. The internal structure uses a Technic-supported chassis and legs, giving the large body a framework capable of supporting its weight.

The higher piece count is not simply a larger quantity of identical plates. It is spent on layered armor, internal structure, mechanical joints, rear greebling and tiled surfaces. The result is a model that rewards slow construction and careful alignment. It also means more subassemblies to handle when moving the finished walker.

75322: fewer parts, quicker route to play

The 75322’s 586 pieces make it less than half the size of the UCS parts inventory. LEGO rates it for ages 9 and up and presents it as a set for recreating Hoth action, solo play and social play. The build still creates a full-size LEGO AT-ST silhouette, but the construction is optimized for getting to a playable vehicle rather than delivering a display-grade interior and surface treatment.

For a family build, the lower part count also makes it easier to divide construction into shorter sessions. The 75322 is the practical choice when the buyer wants a recognizable walker in one afternoon or wants to spend more time staging scenes than assembling the model.

75332: introduction rather than comparison

The 87-piece 75332 is a 4+ starter set. It builds a small AT-ST alongside a speeder and Ewok lookout, and includes three minifigures. Its simplified construction helps a young builder begin independently, but its proportions and feature set should not be judged against the UCS or Hoth models.

Detail, interior and finish

What 75417 adds with its larger scale

The UCS model’s larger shell creates room for details that are difficult to include in a play-scale walker:

  • A detailed interior beneath the upper body.
  • Extensive rear greebling and tiled surface work.
  • Opening top panels that expose the inside.
  • A printed UCS information plaque intended for display.
  • A premium AT-ST Driver minifigure selected to complement the display model.

GamesRadar also notes that 75417 is more squat than the prototype, with thicker, shorter legs, larger feet, a wider central chassis and a more tapered face. Those choices give the finished model a heavier, more deliberate presence. They are part of the current model’s design rather than evidence that it is meant to match the proportions of the 75322.

What 75322 emphasizes

LEGO calls the 75322 authentically detailed, but its detail budget is directed toward recognizable Hoth styling and functions that can be used during play. The cockpit is accessible, the head rotates and the exterior carries the visual cues that identify an AT-ST without the UCS model’s extensive internal treatment.

In practical terms, 75417 gives you more to inspect when the walker is stationary; 75322 gives you a cleaner, less delicate object to pick up, turn and use in a scene. The standard set’s simpler surfaces are not a missing feature for its intended audience—they leave room for handling and action.

Play functions and moving parts

UCS 75417 functions

The UCS walker deliberately limits play features. Its moving elements are primarily there to pose the display model and reveal the interior:

  • Tilting head.
  • Elevating front twin blaster cannons.
  • Spinning side weaponry.
  • Opening small top hatch.
  • Opening larger top panel.
  • Opening and closing eye hatches.

The larger panel reveals two seats and three control panels. That interior view is a major reason to choose 75417, but the model is not designed around repeated firing actions or rapid repositioning. GamesRadar summarized the trade-off as few playability features for a UCS set, while still identifying the head, weapons and hatches that can be adjusted.

75322 functions

The Hoth AT-ST is engineered as an active play vehicle. Its feature set includes:

  • An opening hatch and roof for cockpit access.
  • A wheel-operated rotating head.
  • Two spring-loaded shooters.
  • Posable legs.

The wheel mechanism lets a player turn the head without grabbing the top directly, and the spring-loaded shooters provide an immediate action feature. Posable legs make it possible to create walking or uneven-terrain poses, although the set is still intended to be handled as a play model rather than treated as a fragile sculpture.

Which feature set fits your use?

If you care most about… Better fit Why
Opening the machine to inspect a detailed interior 75417 Its top panels reveal two seats and three control panels, with a larger display-oriented interior.

Included characters and scene-building value

75417’s single premium minifigure

75417 includes one AT-ST Driver minifigure. That is enough to show scale inside the cockpit, but it does not provide a complete battle scenario by itself. Buyers who already own a large Star Wars minifigure collection may see this as an intentional choice: the walker remains the focus, and the display is not crowded with figures.

75322’s Hoth package

The 75322 includes a Hoth AT-ST Pilot, a Hoth Rebel Trooper, snow-decorated Chewbacca and an Imperial Probe Droid. Those characters immediately establish a snowy battlefield and allow opposing sides to interact with the walker. The probe droid is especially useful as a separate scouting target rather than an accessory attached to the AT-ST.

If you are starting a Hoth display from scratch, the 75322 delivers more scene content per box. If you are adding a centerpiece to an existing collection, the UCS model’s single figure may be sufficient because the surrounding display supplies the context.

Price, retirement and availability

How to interpret the listed prices

LEGO’s US list price for 75417 is $199.99. When checked, LEGO marked it temporarily out of stock, so that figure should be treated as the official list price rather than a guarantee of immediate purchase or of the price charged by a reseller.

LEGO’s US page lists the 75322 at a former $49.99 list price and identifies it as retired. A retired set no longer has a dependable current LEGO price: resale listings can be higher or lower depending on whether the box is sealed, whether pieces and instructions are complete, and how much demand exists in a particular region. Check live listings in your country before treating $49.99 as a current buying cost.

The 75332’s price is not established here. Its relevance is its 4+ format and compact size, not a direct cost-per-piece comparison with the two larger walkers.

Value beyond price per piece

Dividing price by piece count would give the UCS and standard sets very different-looking numbers, but that calculation misses the reason their prices differ. 75417 pays for a larger engineered frame, display finishing, interior detailing and a longer adult build. 75322 allocates more of its design to minifigures and interactive features. Choose the feature set you will use rather than assuming the lower historical list price automatically represents better value.

Display requirements and handling

Planning a place for 75417

Measure the shelf depth as well as its width. The published 8.5-inch length and width describe the model’s maximum dimensions, while the angled legs and feet can make the visual footprint feel irregular. Leave clearance around the head and side weapons so they can be posed without striking a wall or neighboring model.

Because the model weighs more and has a Technic-supported body, lift it with both hands under the central structure rather than by a leg, hatch or weapon. Open panels are useful for showing the interior, but they should be closed before the walker is moved.

Planning a place for 75322

The 6-by-5-inch published footprint is easier to accommodate on a bookcase or child’s play table. Its lower height also makes it simpler to reach the cockpit and operate the head wheel. Keep enough open space in front for the spring-loaded shooters and enough side room to pose the legs.

Which LEGO AT-ST should you buy?

Choose UCS 75417 if…

  • You want a centerpiece that stands nearly 15 inches tall.
  • You enjoy a roughly five-hour, technically demanding adult build.
  • You value an interior, rear greebling, tiled armor and a printed UCS plaque.
  • You prefer a model that can be posed on a shelf rather than repeatedly used in battles.
  • You are comfortable with a single included minifigure and a $199.99 US list price when available.

Choose standard Hoth AT-ST 75322 if…

  • You want a walker that works with minifigure-scale Hoth scenes.
  • You prefer a lower parts count and a 9+ build.
  • You want three named character minifigures and an Imperial Probe Droid in the box.
  • You will use spring-loaded shooters, a wheel-operated rotating head and posable legs.
  • You are willing to shop the retired-set market and compare current listings rather than rely on the former $49.99 US list price.

Choose 75332 if…

  • The builder is four or older and needs a simple introduction to LEGO Star Wars.
  • You need a very small, portable set with an AT-ST, speeder and Ewok lookout.
  • You specifically want an 87-piece starter model, not a full-size display or play-scale walker.

Common buying mistakes

Assuming “UCS” means a larger playset

UCS identifies the display-oriented direction of 75417. It does not mean the model has more action features. In this case, the standard set has the spring-loaded shooters and wheel-operated head that the UCS model lacks.

Using 75332 as the standard comparison

The 4+ set is not the standard-size AT-ST. Comparing its height or piece count with 75417 makes the UCS model appear even more extreme and says little about the play-scale 75322.

Treating retired pricing as fixed

The 75322’s $49.99 figure is historical US list pricing. A sealed retired copy, a used complete copy and a missing-piece copy can have very different prices. Verify condition, completeness and region before buying.

Buying for play when the shelf is the real goal—or vice versa

75417 is likely to disappoint someone expecting frequent battles because its play features are intentionally limited. The 75322 is likely to disappoint someone seeking a museum-style centerpiece because it is smaller and less internally detailed. Match the model to the way it will spend most of its time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom-line decision

For the most impressive standalone display, select the UCS AT-ST Walker 75417: it is taller, broader, far more detailed and built around an adult-level construction experience. For Hoth storytelling, minifigure interaction and repeated hands-on play, the 75322 is the stronger design despite its smaller size and retired status. The 75332 belongs in a separate 4+ beginner category. In short, 75417 is the AT-ST to look at; 75322 is the AT-ST to play with.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
