The build includes a four-way joystick, an illuminating coin slot, an adjustable score display and a mechanical maze that simulates the chase. Opening the rear exposes the mechanism, turning the back of the cabinet into part of the display and giving builders a way to see how the moving elements work. Its play feature is physical rather than electronic: included coin elements can be placed into the slot and made to swoosh out again. That action, plus the hinged room reveal, gives the model something to do after assembly without suggesting that it plays a digital game. LEGO’s instructions metadata identifies 40805 as a 2025 set with 468 pieces and a 12+ rating.
How much shelf and desk space do they need?
10323: plan for a deep, prominent display
The PAC-MAN cabinet stands over 32 cm tall, is 25 cm wide and extends 17 cm from front to back. In imperial terms, that is more than 12.5 inches high, 10 inches wide and 7 inches deep. Those measurements describe the main model; the separate character display adds lateral presence when positioned beside it.
Measure usable clearance rather than the outside dimensions of a shelf alone. Leave enough height to lift the cabinet into place, enough depth to avoid an overhanging front edge, and enough rear clearance to open the mechanism when you want to show it. If your shelf has a low upper shelf, the cabinet may fit numerically but still be awkward to install or remove.

40805: suitable for compact surfaces
40805 is over 16 cm high, 11 cm wide and 8 cm deep—more than 6 by 4 by 3 inches. It can fit on a desk, a shallow bookcase or a smaller collectibles shelf where 10323 would dominate the available space.

Practical measuring checklist
- Measure width, depth and vertical clearance at the exact shelf position.
- Check whether a shelf edge, wall or cabinet door blocks the rear of 10323.
- Account for the separate PAC-MAN character base when planning a group display.
- For 40805, leave room for the cabinet to open and for the interior scene to be visible.
- Keep a safe margin around either model so nearby objects do not snag the joystick, figures or hinged sections.

Mechanical and visual features in 10323
10323 is built for viewers who enjoy mechanisms as much as the finished silhouette. Its four-way joystick provides tactile control of the model’s mechanical elements, while the maze movement creates a visual simulation of PAC-MAN’s chase. The score display can be adjusted, and the coin slot illuminates through a light brick.
The rear access panel is important for two reasons. It lets you inspect the mechanism instead of treating the cabinet as a sealed prop, and it gives the finished model a second viewing angle. If your cabinet will sit against a wall, you will lose much of that explanatory value.
The separate character base changes the presentation from a single cabinet into a small scene. PAC-MAN, BLINKY and CLYDE can be rotated, so you can aim them toward the cabinet, arrange them as a group or vary the pose over time. The 1980s arcade vignette and gaming minifigure add context without requiring a second large set.

Are either LEGO arcade machines playable?
What “playable” means for 10323
10323 is not playable in the video-game sense. There is no screen, game cartridge, digital control board or electronic scoring system. The joystick, score display, light brick and maze are model features that recreate the appearance and motion of an arcade cabinet.
It is playable as a mechanical display: you can operate the joystick, adjust the score, move the maze and reposition the character figures. That makes it satisfying for builders who want interaction, but it should not be bought as a working PAC-MAN console.

Pick 10323 when the arcade cabinet itself is the centerpiece. Its scale, recognizable PAC-MAN styling, illuminated coin slot and visible mechanism reward a dedicated shelf or display plinth. The separate character base lets you build a broader composition, while the rear opening gives collectors an additional angle to show.

Choose 40805 for a compact scene
Pick 40805 when available space is the main constraint or when you prefer a model with an interior story. Its closed form is tidy, but opening it reveals the gamer’s room, mini arcade, computer and sofa. That makes it effective on a desk or shared shelf where viewers can interact with the hinge and inspect the interior.

Budget, age ratings and buying expectations
The official US listing positions 10323 as a $269.99, 18+ collector set and 40805 as a $39.99, 12+ compact model. Those are US list prices, not a guarantee of the amount charged in another country, after tax, or during a promotion. Retail availability and retirement labels are also time-sensitive.
The age ratings describe LEGO’s intended building audience, not a claim that every adult or child outside that range cannot assemble the set. In practice, 10323’s piece count, display scale and mechanical subassemblies call for more time, sorting space and patience. 40805 is shorter and simpler to stage, although its hinged interior still benefits from careful handling.
Before purchasing, confirm the exact edition, regional price, current stock and whether the listing includes the components you expect. Do not assume that a discount, bundle or secondary-market listing has the same terms as the official US product page.
How to plan the build and display
- Measure first. Record the shelf’s usable height, width and depth, then compare those measurements with the official dimensions for the set you are considering.
- Choose a viewing angle. For 10323, decide whether the front, side and rear mechanism will be visible. For 40805, decide whether the cabinet will remain closed or open.
- Reserve an interaction zone. Leave finger room for the 10323 joystick, score adjustment and rear access, or for opening 40805 and moving its coin element.
- Build on a stable surface. A flat table makes it easier to align cabinet panels and protects small scene parts from being knocked away during assembly.
- Test moving elements gently. Operate the maze, hinge, joystick or coin action without forcing a part that feels blocked. Recheck the relevant section of the instructions if movement is stiff.
- Position loose display pieces securely. Set the 10323 character base where it cannot be brushed off the shelf, and keep 40805’s interior accessories seated when the cabinet is moved.
- Protect the finished model. Keep either set away from direct heat, moisture and heavy dust. A clear display case can reduce cleaning, but verify that its internal dimensions allow the cabinet to be placed and removed without catching the joystick or figures.
Common buying and display mistakes
Expecting a working arcade game
The most important mistake is treating either product as an electronic console. 10323’s official description explicitly says it is non-functional, and 40805 is presented as a brick-built display and play model. Buy them for construction, mechanics, scene design and nostalgia—not for playing PAC-MAN on a screen.

Ignoring the rear of 10323
The mechanism is part of the appeal, but a tight wall placement can make the rear opening unusable. If you cannot access the back, you may also make dusting and future adjustments more difficult.
Measuring only the closed cabinet
Both sets have display features that extend beyond a simple front-facing box. The 10323 character stand needs its own position, and 40805 needs hinge clearance when opened. Plan the arrangement you will actually use, not only the smallest closed footprint.
Using a shelf that cannot support interaction
A narrow or unstable surface may hold the static weight but still be unsuitable for operating a joystick, moving a maze or opening a cabinet. Put interactive models on a surface that will not wobble when touched.
