langs30.dll Not Found: Safely Restore PROMT Stylus on Windows

langs30.dll is a 32-bit language-support library associated with PROMT’s old Stylus for Windows translation software. If langs30.dll is missing or was not found, repair or reinstall the PROMT/Stylus application rather than downloading a replacement DLL.

The file is not known to be a normal Windows component. It is not part of DirectX, .NET, the Visual C++ Redistributable, or a standard device-driver package. The error usually means that Stylus or another old program can no longer find one of its own files.

What the langs30.dll error means

Historical file records identify langs30.dll as “Language support DLL (32-bit version)” with the internal name LANGS32. Those records associate it with Stylus for Windows, developed by PROMT.

You may see messages such as:

  • This application failed to start because langs30.dll was not found.
  • The file langs30.dll is missing or corrupted.
  • Error loading langs30.dll.
  • Cannot find langs30.dll.
  • langs30.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.

These messages are generic Windows loader errors. The exact wording depends on the program attempting to load the file. A “not designed to run on Windows” message can indicate a damaged file or an architecture mismatch, but do not assume a specific status code unless it appears in the complete error.

The reported file is 32-bit. A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows through WOW64, but a 32-bit process cannot load a 64-bit DLL. That is why copying a random replacement into a Windows system folder is unlikely to solve the problem.

Before changing anything, identify the failing program

The application named in the error is more important than the filename.

  1. Write down the program name shown in the error window.
  2. Note whether the error appears when launching Stylus, an old translation utility, or another legacy application.
  3. Right-click the application shortcut and select Properties.
  4. Select the Shortcut tab.
  5. Check the Target field and note the installation folder.
  6. Open that folder in File Explorer and look for langs30.dll.

You can also search common locations from an elevated Command Prompt:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
where /r "%ProgramFiles%" langs30.dll
where /r "%ProgramFiles(x86)%" langs30.dll
where /r "%windir%" langs30.dll

If the file is found beside the application that needs it, that supports the conclusion that it is a private application library. Finding a file in System32 does not prove that Windows owns it.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall PROMT Stylus

Time needed: 10–30 minutes

This is the most likely fix because langs30.dll belongs with the Stylus installation. Repairing the parent program restores the correct file location, supporting files, registry entries, and application architecture together.

Try Windows’ repair option

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps.
  4. Search for Stylus, PROMT, or the name of the program shown in the error.
  5. Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
  6. Choose Advanced options, if available.
  7. Select Repair.
  8. Restart Windows and launch the program again.

If Repair is not available:

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Select the PROMT or Stylus entry.
  4. Choose Change, Repair, or a similarly named maintenance option.
  5. Follow the installer prompts.
  6. Restart the computer and test the application.

Reinstall from trusted original media

If repair is unavailable or fails, uninstall the affected program and reinstall it from its original CD, installer backup, or a verified package supplied by the software vendor.

  1. Save any translation dictionaries, custom settings, or project files.
  2. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  3. Select the PROMT or Stylus program.
  4. Choose Uninstall and complete the wizard.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Run the original installer.
  7. If the installer offers a destination folder, keep the default application location unless you have a specific reason to change it.
  8. Launch the program from its installed shortcut.

Do not copy only langs30.dll from another computer. The program may also need other private libraries, configuration files, language data, and registry entries.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A successful repair means the application opens without the missing-file message. If the same error returns immediately, check whether antivirus software removed the file or whether the legacy program is incompatible with the current version and architecture of Windows.

No current official Stylus for Windows installer is established here. Treat old installation media and verified vendor-provided packages as safer sources than files copied from unrelated computers.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine

Time needed: 5–10 minutes

Antivirus software may quarantine an old DLL because legacy applications often contain unusual code patterns or use outdated packaging. This does not prove that the file is malicious, and the filename alone does not prove that it is safe.

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Type Windows Security and open it.
  3. Select Virus & threat protection.
  4. Select Protection history.
  5. Review recent detections.
  6. Open any detection that identifies the Stylus installation folder or langs30.dll.
  7. Confirm the original file path and the detected publisher or source.
  8. If the file came from the original PROMT installation and the detection is demonstrably false, use the available Restore or Allow on device action.
  9. Reinstall the parent application if the file was removed and cannot be restored safely.

Do not restore a copy obtained from an untrusted DLL source. In that situation, leave the detection removed and reinstall Stylus from trusted original media.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After restoring a verified file, launch the application. If Defender immediately quarantines it again, stop restoring it and investigate the detection or contact the software vendor. A repeated detection can indicate that the old program itself is unsafe or incompatible.

Fix 3: Check the application folder and architecture

Time needed: 10–15 minutes

A 32-bit DLL must be loaded by a compatible 32-bit application. On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit applications normally run under WOW64, but they still need the correct 32-bit libraries in their own installation directory.

  1. Right-click the application shortcut.
  2. Select Open file location.
  3. Confirm that the application and its supporting files are in the expected folder.
  4. Check whether langs30.dll is present there.
  5. If the file exists, do not overwrite it immediately. The error may be caused by a damaged dependency, an incorrect application path, or a failed installation.
  6. If the file is absent, run the application’s repair option or reinstall it from trusted media.

Do not place a replacement in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 as a general fix. The names are counterintuitive: on 64-bit Windows, System32 contains 64-bit system files, while SysWOW64 is used for redirected 32-bit system access. Neither folder is a general-purpose storage location for third-party application DLLs.

If Stylus is an especially old build, modern 64-bit Windows may not support every component it uses. In that case, the practical choices are a compatible older Windows environment, a newer PROMT product, or abandoning the obsolete application if its data can be migrated.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 4: Do not register langs30.dll with regsvr32

Time needed: 2 minutes

regsvr32 is not a universal DLL repair command. It is intended for libraries that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A private language-support library may not expose those functions at all.

Running this command:

regsvr32 langs30.dll

can produce errors such as “the module was loaded but the entry point was not found.” That does not prove the file is missing, and repeating the command will not repair a damaged Stylus installation.

Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor specifically documents that the particular DLL must be registered. For this file, repairing or reinstalling the parent application is the appropriate first action.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components only if other programs are affected

Time needed: 15–30 minutes

SFC and DISM repair Windows components. They do not provide langs30.dll, because the evidence points to an application file rather than a Windows system file.

  1. Wait for DISM to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test the affected application again.

DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows files against that repaired store. If both commands complete successfully but Stylus still reports langs30.dll, return to the application repair or reinstall steps.

Manually repeating SFC and DISM can be tedious when you do not know which component changed. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what needs attention, while its repair functions require the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling PROMT remains the definitive fix for an application-owned DLL.

Fix 6: Update or reinstall related drivers only when the symptom points there

Time needed: 10–30 minutes

langs30.dll is not identified as a device-driver file, so updating graphics, audio, chipset, or printer drivers is not a primary fix. Consider this step only if the error began after a hardware change, a driver installation, or a broader wave of application crashes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the device category related to the failing program.
  4. Right-click the device.
  5. Select Update driver.
  6. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
  8. If the problem began immediately after an update, open the device’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver if available.

For a clean reinstall, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and install the driver from the hardware manufacturer’s official support package. Do not remove random devices simply because langs30.dll is missing.

Hunting through many driver versions is unnecessary unless Device Manager identifies a problem. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale drivers and identify what needs updating, while driver installation through the full version is optional; it cannot replace repairing the PROMT application when that program owns the missing DLL.

Fix 7: Check Windows Features and runtime dependencies only when named

Time needed: 5–15 minutes

Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET just because langs30.dll is missing. There is no evidence that this file belongs to any of those runtimes.

Check the complete error message. If it separately names a runtime file such as an msvcp or vcruntime DLL, then install the matching runtime from Microsoft’s official documentation. If it names an older .NET component, check Windows Features:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type optionalfeatures and press Enter.
  3. Review the listed Windows features.
  4. Enable only the feature explicitly required by the application.
  5. Select OK.
  6. Restart Windows if prompted.

Do not enable random features as a workaround. A runtime dependency must be identified by the application’s error, installer, or documentation.

Fix 8: Use compatibility settings for a legacy program

Time needed: 5–15 minutes

If reinstalling restores langs30.dll but the program still fails to launch, the remaining issue may be compatibility rather than the missing file.

  1. Right-click the Stylus executable or shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Compatibility tab.
  4. Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
  5. Choose an older Windows version that matches the program’s original era.
  6. Select Apply, then OK.
  7. Launch the program again.

You can also test Run this program as an administrator, but use that only if the application requires access to a protected folder. Administrator mode does not repair a missing DLL.

If a very old Stylus build still fails on 64-bit Windows, use an older supported Windows environment or replace the application. Persistent failure after a clean reinstall does not automatically mean that another copy of langs30.dll is needed.

What caused langs30.dll to disappear?

The most likely causes are:

Cause What usually fixes it
Incomplete or damaged Stylus installation Repair or reinstall PROMT/Stylus
Antivirus quarantine Verify the original path, then restore only a trusted file
Cleanup software removed an old program file Reinstall the parent application
The program was moved manually Return it to its original folder or reinstall it
Disk or file-system damage Check the drive, then reinstall the application
32-bit and 64-bit mismatch Use the correct application build and DLL architecture
Legacy incompatibility Use compatible Windows or newer software
Broader Windows corruption Run DISM and SFC after backing up important files

A recent Windows update can expose compatibility problems in an old application without being the direct cause of the missing file. System Restore or Windows recovery options may help when the failure began immediately after a system change, but they are not a substitute for reinstalling Stylus.

Why downloading langs30.dll is a bad first fix

Random DLL downloads create several risks:

  • The file may contain malware.
  • It may be the wrong architecture.
  • It may be the wrong build or an incompatible revision.
  • It may be missing required companion files.
  • It may not match the program’s expected location.
  • Replacing it can hide the original installation problem.

A filename alone is not proof that a DLL is safe. Check the file path, publisher, digital signature, hash, and antivirus result. A copy outside the expected Stylus directory deserves additional scrutiny.

Frequently asked questions

Is langs30.dll part of Windows?

There is no evidence that langs30.dll is a Windows system DLL. Historical records associate it with PROMT Stylus for Windows, so treat it as a third-party application file.

Which program installed langs30.dll?

The strongest identification is Stylus for Windows, an older PROMT translation product. The program named in your error window and the installation folder should confirm whether that is the affected application.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I copy langs30.dll into System32 or SysWOW64?

Normally, no. Put application-private files back through the original installer. The two system folders have architecture-specific behavior, and using the wrong one can create additional loader problems.

Should I run regsvr32 langs30.dll?

Usually not. regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide registration entry points. A language-support library can work as a private application dependency without being registerable.

Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?

Not for this filename alone. Install a runtime only when the complete error explicitly names a missing runtime dependency or the application’s installer requires it.

What if Windows Defender quarantined the file?

Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history. Restore it only if you can verify that it came from the original Stylus installation and the detection is demonstrably false. Otherwise, reinstall the parent program from trusted media.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does the program still fail after reinstalling?

Check the application path, architecture, compatibility settings, antivirus history, and Windows Event Viewer. The old Stylus build may not be compatible with the current Windows environment. In that case, a compatible older environment or newer translation software may be necessary.

Is a file named langs30.dll automatically malware?

No. The filename alone proves nothing. Verify its location, signature, hash, and antivirus status. A file in the expected application directory is more plausible than one appearing unexpectedly in a system folder, but it still requires verification.
