Choose KWGT for custom widgets you place on your Android home screen; choose KLWP when you want the wallpaper layer itself to form a broader, animated design. They work on different parts of the home screen, so the choice is less about which app is universally better and more about whether you want to customize individual widgets or the wallpaper. Kustom says you can also use both together.

KWGT and KLWP customize different parts of your home screen

KWGT is Kustom’s Android widget creator. It makes elements such as clocks, calendars, music displays, and system-information panels that you add to the home screen as widgets. The widget occupies a space in the launcher’s layout, alongside app icons and other widgets.

KLWP is Kustom’s live-wallpaper creator. Instead of making a standalone widget, it makes the wallpaper layer into the design. That makes KLWP the more natural starting point when the goal is a cohesive, full-screen theme rather than a collection of separate elements. Kustom describes the distinction in its KWGT FAQ and product descriptions on Kustom HQ.

That difference affects both what you can customize and how the result behaves. A KWGT preset is a widget that you position and size through your launcher. A KLWP setup is a live wallpaper, so wallpaper dimensions and launcher support can affect how it appears or scrolls. If you want both a wallpaper-based design and separate widget elements, Kustom says the apps can be used together.

  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

A useful way to make the distinction concrete is to ask where the element should live. A clock occupying a defined rectangle among app icons is a widget, so KWGT is the relevant app. A design that should fill the wallpaper area and form the backdrop across the home screen belongs to KLWP. The apps may produce visually related results, but they do not turn the same Android surface into the same kind of object.

That matters when you plan a layout. A widget is placed and sized in the launcher’s grid; the wallpaper is set as the home-screen background. If your design depends on arranging a separate item in a particular spot, choose a widget workflow. If the design should be part of the background itself, choose a live-wallpaper workflow. The distinction also explains why launcher sizing comes up more directly with KWGT and launcher wallpaper behavior comes up with KLWP.

Which app fits your goal?

Your goal Better starting point Why
Add a custom clock, calendar, music display, or system-information panel as a home-screen widget KWGT KWGT is Kustom’s widget creator.
Build a theme around the wallpaper layer KLWP KLWP creates live wallpapers rather than standalone home-screen widgets.
Use wallpaper-level animation KLWP Kustom identifies animation as an advantage of its live-wallpaper app.
Put custom widgets over another wallpaper, including a KLWP setup KWGT, alongside the wallpaper app Kustom says KWGT can be used with other live wallpapers, and the two Kustom apps can be combined.
Make one information panel that sits in a chosen space on the home screen KWGT It is placed and sized as a widget through the launcher.
Make the wallpaper itself the main visual design KLWP Its role is to create a live wallpaper, not a separate widget tile.
Keep a widget over a wallpaper from another app KWGT Kustom says KWGT can be used with other live wallpapers.
Avoid all launcher-related setup considerations Neither guarantees that Widget size and wallpaper scrolling can both depend on launcher configuration.

Think in terms of the surface you want to change. If your idea can be described as “put this element here,” KWGT is the closer fit. If it is “make the wallpaper itself the design,” start with KLWP. This is a practical distinction, not a claim that one app produces a better-looking result: the right choice depends on the layout you want and the role the element should play.

For example, a home screen centered on a compact clock and calendar widget points toward KWGT. A design whose composition is meant to occupy the wallpaper area points toward KLWP. If the concept includes both a wallpaper-based design and a separate music or information panel, using the two apps together is an option Kustom explicitly describes. You do not have to force every element into one app just because they share a developer.

One constraint cuts across both choices: the launcher remains part of the experience. It determines how a widget is placed and sized, and its settings and behavior can influence live-wallpaper scrolling. Therefore, the app that sounds right in principle may still require setup checks on the launcher you actually use. Kustom’s guidance does not promise identical behavior across all launchers.

Animation and update behavior are not the same thing

For wallpaper-level animation, start with KLWP

Kustom documents animations as an advantage of KLWP. It is the relevant choice when movement belongs to the wallpaper-based design rather than to a separate widget. The distinction matters if you are imagining an animated widget: KWGT runs within Android’s widget model, and Kustom says that model does not support the same live-wallpaper animation behavior.

So, should you use KWGT to make an animated widget? If “animated” means wallpaper-level movement, KLWP is the better fit according to Kustom’s comparison. A KWGT widget can still present information such as a clock, music display, or system panel, but it should not be chosen on the assumption that it behaves like an animated live wallpaper. The two apps serve different Android surfaces, and the widget model has constraints of its own.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is not merely a question of visual style. A wallpaper design can treat the background as one broader composition, while a widget has a defined footprint in the launcher. If animation is central to the concept and belongs to that broader wallpaper design, start with KLWP. If your priority is a particular widget-sized element, start with KWGT and account for its refresh behavior instead of expecting live-wallpaper animation from it.

KWGT refreshes have an Android widget constraint

Android widgets do not know whether they are currently visible, according to Kustom. Kustom says it disables KWGT’s per-second update feature to avoid battery or performance problems, particularly with complex presets. This is the developer’s explanation of the design choice, not an independent battery test or a guarantee of a particular effect on every phone.

For a clock, music display, or other element that depends on updates, keep that constraint in mind when choosing a design. A widget is not equivalent to a live wallpaper simply because it displays changing information. If the central requirement is animation at the wallpaper level, KLWP is the better starting point; if the requirement is a widget, KWGT remains the appropriate app, with its update behavior shaped by Android’s widget model.

The practical takeaway is to separate the idea of “changing information” from “continuous animation.” Kustom’s explanation concerns the per-second update feature and Android widgets’ lack of visibility information. It does not establish that every KWGT element stops working or that every phone will experience a particular battery impact. Rather, it explains why the company does not treat widget refresh as an unlimited, every-second process, especially for complex presets.

If you are deciding between a clock widget and an animated wallpaper, do not judge them as if they were two implementations of the same feature. The clock is a widget placed within the home-screen layout; the wallpaper animation belongs to the live-wallpaper layer. Choose based on the role that needs to change, and treat Kustom’s battery and performance explanation as the developer’s rationale rather than a device-by-device performance measurement.

Set up KWGT with the final widget size in mind

Launcher sizing can change how a KWGT preset fits. Kustom advises resizing the widget to its intended, final dimensions before loading a preset. That order helps avoid designing around a temporary size that changes afterward.

  1. Add a KWGT widget to the home screen. Use the launcher’s widget interface to place it in the intended area.
  2. Resize it to its final dimensions before loading a preset. Kustom notes that launcher instructions and automatic sizing can produce unexpected dimensions.
  3. Load the preset after the widget is sized. Check how it fits in the space you intend to use.
  4. Adjust the editor’s scale setting if needed. Kustom recommends this when the result still needs adjustment after sizing.

Launcher behavior is part of the setup, not just a cosmetic detail. Widget dimensions may depend on how the launcher reports the widget’s size, and automatic sizing can differ from what you expect. If the preset looks too large or too small, first check the widget’s actual dimensions in the launcher, then use the editor’s scale setting rather than assuming the preset itself is defective. Kustom’s KWGT FAQ covers its sizing guidance.

The order is important: size first, load the preset second, then make a scale adjustment if the fit still needs work. Loading a preset into a widget that has not reached its intended footprint can make it harder to tell whether a mismatch comes from the preset or from the launcher’s reported dimensions. Kustom’s recommendation is a practical way to reduce that variable before you start fine-tuning.

Do not assume that every launcher interprets a nominal widget size in exactly the same way. Kustom notes that launcher instructions and automatic sizing may produce unexpected dimensions. If a design is intended for a particular area, use the launcher’s own resizing controls to reach that final area, then assess the preset there. If the widget remains off after that, its editor scale setting is the suggested adjustment.

This setup advice is relevant whether your widget is a clock, calendar, music display, or information panel. The contents do not remove the sizing issue: all are still widgets occupying space in a launcher. A clean first setup is therefore less about picking a more powerful preset and more about giving the preset the final size it is meant to use.

KLWP scrolling depends on the wallpaper and launcher

A KLWP wallpaper does not necessarily scroll across home-screen pages automatically. Kustom’s guidance says scrolling depends on the wallpaper being sufficiently large and on launcher support and settings. Its FAQ also recommends matching the launcher’s number of home-screen pages to the preset. Behavior can vary by launcher, so do not assume that a setup that scrolls on one launcher will behave the same way on another.

  • Check that the wallpaper dimensions are large enough for the intended scrolling behavior.
  • Check whether the launcher supports wallpaper scrolling and whether its relevant setting is enabled.
  • Compare the launcher’s home-screen page count with the preset’s configuration, as Kustom recommends.
  • If scrolling still behaves unexpectedly, account for launcher-specific behavior; the app alone does not determine the result.

These checks apply when scrolling is part of the design. If you do not need wallpaper movement between pages, do not treat scrolling as a requirement for choosing KLWP; the main distinction remains wallpaper design versus standalone widgets. See the KLWP FAQ for Kustom’s troubleshooting guidance.

When a wallpaper appears fixed instead of moving between screens, treat it as a setup question rather than assuming that the design itself is broken. First consider whether the wallpaper is large enough for the intended movement. Then check the launcher’s support and scrolling setting. Finally, compare the launcher’s number of home-screen pages with the preset’s configuration. These checks follow Kustom’s documented guidance, but the outcome can still differ by launcher.

It is also useful to distinguish scrolling from animation. Kustom identifies animation as an advantage of KLWP, while its scrolling troubleshooting concerns wallpaper dimensions and launcher behavior. If your desired design does not need to move as you swipe between home-screen pages, scrolling is not a reason by itself to rule out KLWP. Conversely, if page-to-page movement is essential, confirm the launcher setup rather than assuming that selecting the app alone will enable it.

Because launcher behavior varies, avoid treating one successful setup as a universal template. The same wallpaper and app can behave differently when launcher support or settings differ. Kustom’s guidance is to check the relevant configuration, including page count, while recognizing that the launcher remains a factor in the result.

Using KWGT and KLWP together

You do not have to treat the apps as mutually exclusive. Kustom says KWGT can be used with other live wallpapers, including a KLWP setup. That arrangement is useful when the wallpaper provides the broader design and you still want separate widget elements placed on top of it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep the jobs distinct when planning the layout: use KLWP for the wallpaper layer and KWGT for items that should behave as widgets in the launcher. The combination does not remove the platform constraints of either app. KWGT sizing still depends partly on launcher behavior, while KLWP scrolling still depends on wallpaper dimensions and launcher support or settings.

For instance, a wallpaper-based theme can provide the broad visual treatment while a separate widget supplies a clock, calendar, music display, or system-information panel. The key is to decide which parts belong in the wallpaper and which need to be placed as widget elements. Kustom’s statement that the apps can be combined means you need not choose one app as the exclusive tool for every part of a home screen.

There is no special claim here that combining them removes setup work or guarantees a particular appearance. The widget still needs an appropriate size in the launcher, and the live wallpaper still depends on wallpaper and launcher behavior for scrolling. Think of using both as a way to assign different jobs to the right surface, not as a workaround for Android’s widget or launcher constraints.

Android compatibility, versions, and distribution

Kustom’s FAQ states that its apps use features available from Android 4.4 onward. That is the baseline stated in the documentation, not a guarantee that every current app version will work on every device running that version. Check the current store listing and the requirements for your specific device before installing.

This distinction matters if you are comparing an older phone’s Android version with the FAQ’s baseline. A stated platform baseline describes what Kustom says about the features used by its apps; it does not replace the current listing’s device requirements or guarantee compatibility with every launcher and configuration. Confirm the version available to you and the requirements shown for your device before deciding based on the baseline alone.

The official KWGT downloads page listed stable version 3.82, build 3.82b621115, uploaded on July 30, 2026, and also listed AOSP and Huawei variants. This is a dated release-page listing, not assurance that it remains the latest version. Check the live page for the current release before relying on that version number.

The page’s dated listing is useful as a release reference, not as a reason to assume that all readers should install that build. Releases can be superseded, and availability may depend on the distribution route or device. Check the current official downloads page or the relevant store listing when you install. The stated build number and upload date identify the page entry, rather than a promise about what is current today.

Kustom says its AOSP variants of KWGT and KLWP are ad-supported and do not require Google Services or a Pro key; the available variants are described on the official downloads page. The official pages cited here do not establish current Google Play prices or all purchase terms. For current availability, pricing, and purchase details, check the listing shown for your region rather than assuming that terms are identical across stores or variants.

In other words, there is no single price or purchase detail to quote confidently for every reader based on those official pages. Store prices and terms are not established here, so check the current listing for your country and the version you intend to use. The AOSP note is specifically about Kustom’s variants: they are ad-supported and do not require Google Services or a Pro key. Do not assume that those terms describe every version distributed through every store.

The choice is also not a hardware-shopping decision. The cited Kustom materials do not identify a particular phone model, accessory, tool, or consumable as necessary to use either app. Your practical checks are the app’s current requirements, your device and Android version, the distribution route available to you, and the launcher behavior relevant to the design.

A quick decision checklist

  • Choose KWGT if you want to place a clock, calendar, music display, or information panel as a widget.
  • Choose KLWP if you want the wallpaper layer to carry the broader design or its animation.
  • Use both if your layout calls for a live-wallpaper design plus separate widgets.
  • Check launcher behavior if widget sizing or wallpaper scrolling is central to your setup; neither app can make every launcher behave identically.
  • Check current requirements and store terms for your device and region, since compatibility and distribution details can change.

For a quick final test, describe the element you want to make and where it should sit. If it should be a placed home-screen widget, choose KWGT. If it should be part of the wallpaper layer, choose KLWP. If both descriptions fit different parts of your layout, Kustom says you can combine the apps. Then check sizing for the widget or scrolling and launcher support for the wallpaper, depending on what your design requires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use KWGT or KLWP?

Use KWGT for custom elements placed as home-screen widgets, such as clocks, calendars, music displays, or system-information panels. Use KLWP when you want to make the wallpaper layer itself into a broader live design. Kustom says the apps can also be used together.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can KWGT make animated widgets like KLWP?

Kustom identifies animations as an advantage of KLWP and says Android widgets do not support the same live-wallpaper animation behavior. If wallpaper-level animation is central to the design, KLWP is the better starting point; KWGT is for widget-sized elements.

Can I use a live wallpaper as a widget?

They are different Android surfaces: KLWP creates a live wallpaper, while KWGT creates widgets placed through the launcher. Kustom says KWGT can be used with other live wallpapers, including a KLWP setup, so you can use a wallpaper and separate widgets together rather than turning the wallpaper into a widget.

Why does my KWGT preset look too large or too small?

Kustom says widget dimensions can depend on how the launcher reports size and that launcher instructions or automatic sizing can produce unexpected dimensions. Resize the widget to its final size before loading a preset; if it still needs adjustment, use the editor’s scale setting.

Why is my KLWP wallpaper not scrolling between home screens?

Kustom says scrolling depends on sufficiently large wallpaper dimensions and launcher support or settings. Check whether wallpaper scrolling is supported and enabled, and compare the launcher’s home-screen page count with the preset’s configuration. Behavior can vary by launcher.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does KWGT update every second, and will it drain my battery?

Kustom says Android widgets do not know whether they are visible and that it disables KWGT’s per-second update feature to avoid battery or performance problems, especially with complex presets. That is Kustom’s explanation, not an independent battery test or a prediction for every device.

What Android version do KWGT and KLWP require?

Kustom’s FAQ states that its apps use features available from Android 4.4 onward. Treat that as the documentation’s stated baseline, not a guarantee of compatibility with every current version or device. Check the current store listing and your device’s requirements.

How much do KWGT and KLWP cost?

The official pages referenced here do not establish current regional Google Play prices or all purchase terms. Check the current store listing for your region. Kustom says its AOSP variants are ad-supported and do not require Google Services or a Pro key.

The Bottom Line

Choose KWGT for widgets, KLWP for wallpaper-level design and animation, and both if your layout needs both surfaces. Before settling on a setup, check the launcher’s widget sizing or wallpaper-scrolling behavior, as applicable, and verify current device requirements and store terms.
