Choose a Kubernetes consulting partner by matching its proven production work and proposed delivery team to your environment and goals—not by credentials or a directory listing alone. Shortlist providers against the same criteria: relevant references, security and upgrade practices, support commitments, knowledge transfer, scope, and who owns the platform after the engagement.
What KCSP status tells you—and what it doesn’t
The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) describes its Kubernetes Certified Service Provider (KCSP) program as a pre-qualified tier of vetted providers with deep Kubernetes experience. KCSPs offer support, consulting, professional services, and training. The designation is a useful initial screen, not a ranking of firms or a guarantee that a particular team will suit your project. CNCF’s KCSP program page publishes the program requirements.

Under the currently published requirements, a provider must have at least three engineers who passed the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) exam; Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) credentials do not count toward that requirement. It must also support enterprise end users, publish an English-language Kubernetes professional-services landing page, and be a CNCF member. Check the provider’s current listing and ask who on your proposed team holds relevant credentials.
The CNCF’s 2025 annual report says 25 providers were added during 2025 and records 230 KCSPs at year end. That is a program count, not a quality ranking or evidence that every provider serves your location or use case. CNCF Annual Report 2025.
#1 Best Overall
KCSP is distinct from CNCF training-partner status: the training program emphasizes training capability, references, and instructors who have passed the relevant exam before teaching exam-mapped courses. A training partner designation is not interchangeable with evidence of consulting delivery. CNCF Training FAQ.
Build a shortlist around your actual project
Start by defining the outcome you need. A platform build, migration, reliability improvement, security review, cost-control effort, and operations handover are different assignments. Ask each candidate for examples resembling yours, then have them describe their role, the result, and what the customer’s team retained.
Use the same comparison criteria for each provider, but weight them according to your project’s risks and your internal capabilities. A migration may call for experience with your source environment and cutover approach; ongoing platform support puts more weight on coverage, escalation, and operational ownership.

| Criterion | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Relevant production work | Comparable workloads and environments; the provider’s specific role; outcomes and how they were assessed; customer references you can contact. |
| Proposed people | Who will lead discovery, implementation, and post-launch support; their experience with your Kubernetes distribution, cloud or on-premises setup, and surrounding stack; relevant credentials. |
| Security and lifecycle | Approach to upgrades, access control, workload isolation, secrets, vulnerability response, backup and recovery, and incident escalation. |
| Operations and support | Coverage hours, response targets, escalation path, monitoring responsibilities, on-call arrangements, and whether work is remote, onsite, or both. |
| Knowledge transfer and exit | Documentation, runbooks, training, handover artifacts, and the ability of your team to operate or change the platform afterward. |
| Scope and commercial clarity | Discovery scope, deliverables, assumptions, acceptance criteria, change handling, and ongoing fees. |
A logo list is not a substitute for a reference conversation. Ask references what was delivered, how success was measured, what went wrong, and who owns the system now. Compare proposals by the work and responsibility included—not by day rates alone.

Meet the people who will deliver the work
Request a meeting with the proposed technical lead and, where practical, the engineers who will do the implementation. Clarify whether the people presented during sales discussions will actually be assigned, who handles each phase, and what happens if staffing changes.
CNCF identifies CKA as an administrator credential and Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) as a security specialist credential; its certification exams are performance-based. Those credentials can help establish relevant knowledge, but they do not replace experience with your specific environment or evidence of production delivery. CNCF Training & Certification.
Rank #4
Make security, upgrades, and support explicit
Ask the provider to explain its approach to the operational risks that matter for your workloads. In particular, get the responsibilities for upgrades, access control, isolation, secrets, vulnerability response, backup and recovery, and incident escalation in writing. Confirm who monitors the platform, who is on call, the support hours and response targets, and where the engagement stops.

The cited CNCF program requirements do not establish any provider’s current capacity or local availability, so verify both directly.
Keep conformance separate from consulting quality
Kubernetes software conformance is intended to support API consistency and interoperability between installations. CNCF says certified vendors must provide the latest Kubernetes version yearly or more frequently to remain certified. As CNCF puts it, “Software conformance ensures that every vendor’s version of Kubernetes supports the required APIs, as do open source community versions.” CNCF Certified Kubernetes Software Conformance.
A conformance status concerns Kubernetes software, not the quality of a consulting firm’s delivery. It does not establish that a provider can meet your security, reliability, or cost goals. Evaluate the platform and the partner on their own evidence.
Quick Recap
Before you sign
- Confirm the proposed team, its relevant experience, and who will perform each phase.
- Speak with references for comparable production work rather than relying on customer logos.
- Agree on deliverables, assumptions, acceptance criteria, change handling, and ongoing fees.
- Document support coverage, escalation, monitoring, and operational ownership.
- Specify the runbooks, documentation, training, and handover needed for your team to take over or evolve the platform.
