It might—on one phone, with one setting and one usage pattern—but “nearly an hour” is not a dependable result for Android users generally. The claim does not identify the setting, phone, Android version, or how the runtime was measured. To find a meaningful battery improvement, first identify what is draining your own device, then change the setting most closely connected to that drain.
Why one setting can’t explain every battery drain
Screen-on time, apps running in the background, display brightness, connectivity, and location requests can all affect battery use. The same change can have a noticeable effect on one person’s phone and little effect on another’s: results depend on the device, software version, apps, signal conditions, and daily habits.

Google’s general Android battery guide covers several potential sources of drain, but it does not establish a universal amount of runtime gained by switching off one setting. Without knowing what was changed and how the before-and-after comparison was made, the nearly-hour result should be treated as a personal observation, not a general Android tip.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If the setting was screen timeout, try a shorter interval
A shorter screen timeout can save power when the display would otherwise stay on while the phone is idle. On a Pixel, go to Settings > Display & touch > Screen timeout and choose a shorter interval, such as 30 seconds. Other Android manufacturers may use different menu names or paths; search Settings for “screen timeout” if you don’t see the Pixel labels. Google lists this as one way to get more life from a Pixel battery in its Pixel battery guidance.

The tradeoff is convenience: the display may turn off while you are reading or viewing something without touching the screen. This setting is most relevant if your display often stays lit while the phone is unattended. It does not establish that screen timeout was the setting behind the reported hour of extra runtime.
Check which apps use the battery before restricting them
On supported Pixel versions, open Settings > Battery > Battery usage to review consumption by app. If an app appears to be using unusually much power in the background, inspect its background-usage setting rather than restricting every app at once.

- Google recommends keeping app background usage set to Optimized and leaving Adaptive Battery and battery optimization on.
- Avoid blanket force-stopping apps or services. Google warns that stopping essential ones can prevent the phone from working correctly.
- Adaptive Battery learns from recent usage. Google says it can take a few weeks to take full effect after setting up a new device or performing a factory reset.
These steps are based on Google’s Pixel battery-drain troubleshooting guidance. Menu options and diagnostics vary across Android phones, so a non-Pixel device may present different controls.
Review location access without breaking navigation
Location use can contribute to drain when an app requests accurate fixes frequently, particularly in the background. The impact depends on how accurately and often the app requests location and how quickly it needs updates. Check which apps have location access and limit background access for apps that do not need it.

Do not disable location across the phone if you rely on navigation or other location features. Real-time navigation may need accurate, frequent location updates while in use. Android’s background-location and battery guidance is aimed at app developers; it discusses geofencing responsiveness under background-location limits, not a typical user’s overall battery gain.
Separate longer daily runtime from long-term battery health
Changing how a phone charges is not the same as reducing the power it uses during the day. Pixel charging optimization and the 80% charge limit concern charging behavior and long-term battery lifespan; they are not promises of extra daily runtime from one setting. If your immediate problem is getting through the day, start with observed battery use and settings that affect active drain.

What to do if the drain remains unusual
If battery use still seems abnormal after checking app and display settings, follow the troubleshooting steps for your device and software version. Pixel battery diagnostics are available only on some models: Google says some diagnostic steps require Pixel 6 or later, and certain troubleshooting steps require Android 14 or later. Consult Google’s Pixel troubleshooting instructions for availability and the current steps.
For another Android brand, use its support guidance for your exact model. A battery replacement or repair is a separate possibility to consider when diagnostics point to a hardware or battery-health problem—not an automatic next step for every phone that drains quickly.
