Choose based on your console and how far you want the story to go. On PS4, KINGDOM HEARTS – The Story So Far is the pre-Kingdom Hearts III package, while KINGDOM HEARTS All-In-One Package adds Kingdom Hearts III. On PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2, KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] is the most complete option because it includes Kingdom Hearts III and the Re Mind DLC. Check the exact edition before buying: Re Mind is listed separately for the PS4 All-In-One package, and current-generation physical versions require an internet connection plus an additional download.

If you own a PS4 and do not yet need Kingdom Hearts III, buy The Story So Far. If you want the complete PS4 route, buy All-In-One and budget separately for Re Mind if you want that expansion. For a PS5 or Switch 2 purchase, choose Collection [I–III], then plan for the required download when buying the physical edition.

The Story So Far combines two high-definition collections: HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Square Enix’s official contents list names nine entries, but two of those are presented as remastered cinematics rather than complete playable games.

Story films rather than full games
- KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days — included as HD-remastered cinematics.

That distinction matters if you expect every numbered or named entry to offer a conventional campaign. The two 1.5+2.5 entries, 358/2 Days and Re:coded, communicate their stories through edited video in this compilation. They are useful for following the chronology, but they do not provide the original games’ full gameplay in this package.
Where the collection ends
The Story So Far ends before Kingdom Hearts III. It is therefore a catch-up collection, not a complete series bundle. Buying it is sensible when you want to experience the earlier games first, already own Kingdom Hearts III separately, or are deliberately limiting your purchase to the pre-KHIII material.
What changes with the PS4 All-In-One Package
The PS4 All-In-One Package keeps the two legacy collections and adds Kingdom Hearts III. The PlayStation Store identifies the package as HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III. Square Enix described its physical European edition, announced April 17, 2025 for release June 12, 2025, as “a physical compilation of 10 different KINGDOM HEARTS titles in one edition.”
The important DLC qualification
Re Mind is not presented as part of the PS4 All-In-One product listing. The PlayStation Store lists it as a separate add-on, so do not assume the package includes it merely because the name says “All-In-One.” If Re Mind is important to you, verify the exact store listing, disc description and regional edition before checkout, then purchase the add-on separately if necessary.

Who should choose it
All-In-One is the straightforward PS4 choice for someone who wants the earlier collections and Kingdom Hearts III in one purchase. It avoids the main limitation of The Story So Far—stopping before the third numbered game—while retaining the same pre-KHIII material. It is also the relevant physical-package option for PS4 buyers who prefer a single compilation rather than multiple separate releases.
What Collection [I–III] adds on PS5 and Switch 2
KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] is the current-generation bundle. Square Enix describes it as a value-packed package featuring three collections: HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC).
Complete mainline coverage plus Re Mind
In practical terms, this package combines everything in the two legacy collections with Kingdom Hearts III and its Re Mind downloadable expansion. That makes it the only option in this comparison where the expansion is explicitly part of the bundle description. You do not need to treat Re Mind as an assumed extra in the way you do with the PS4 All-In-One listing.
Release and platform details
Square Enix lists editions for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo lists the Switch 2 release as October 8, 2026. Because the Switch 2 edition is a current release, check the product page for your territory before ordering if you are shopping close to launch or switching between physical and digital formats.

Physical copies need an internet connection
The physical version requires an internet connection and an additional data download. A game card or disc therefore does not represent the complete install by itself. Make sure the console has enough storage, a working network connection and sufficient time for the download before giving the collection as a gift or starting it away from home.

The short version is simple: All-In-One is not a different starting point or a replacement for the legacy collections; it is those collections plus Kingdom Hearts III. The extra decision is whether you also want to buy Re Mind separately.
Which bundle should you buy for your situation?
You have a PS4 and have never played the series
Choose The Story So Far if you want to work through the earlier material before committing to Kingdom Hearts III. It gives you the two legacy collections and the associated story films in one package. Choose All-In-One instead if you already know you want to continue directly into Kingdom Hearts III and prefer not to make a second purchase later.
You have a PS4 and specifically want Kingdom Hearts III
Buy All-In-One. The Story So Far does not contain the third numbered game, so buying it alone leaves a gap that must be filled separately. Treat Re Mind as an additional line item because the PS4 listing does not include it.

You have a PS5
Use Collection [I–III] as the purpose-built current-generation choice. It includes the two legacy collections, Kingdom Hearts III and Re Mind. Confirm that you are purchasing the PS5 edition rather than a PS4 product if the store presents multiple platform versions.
You have a Nintendo Switch 2
Select the Switch 2 edition of Collection [I–III]. It is the bundle in this comparison designed for that platform and includes Kingdom Hearts III with Re Mind. For a physical copy, arrange internet access and storage for the required additional download.
You only want the pre-KHIII story
The Story So Far is the focused option. The other bundles add Kingdom Hearts III, so they cost more in exchange for coverage you may not need immediately. Remember that the collection’s two 1.5+2.5 cinematic entries are videos, not full playable versions.

Square Enix announced a physical European PS4 edition of All-In-One for June 12, 2025. Availability can vary by territory and retailer, so confirm the region, platform and included items on the listing. A PS4 physical package is especially useful for buyers who want one boxed purchase, but the Re Mind qualification still applies.

Physical PS5 and Switch 2 buying
Current-generation physical editions of Collection [I–III] require an internet connection and additional data download. Verify free storage before purchase and avoid assuming that the card or disc contains every byte needed to play.
Already owning one of the collections
Official storefront warnings note that the contents of Collection [I–III] are also sold separately or in other bundles. If you already own HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue or Kingdom Hearts III, compare your existing licenses with the bundle contents before paying again. The bundle’s convenience may still be worthwhile, but duplicate ownership is the main reason to pause.
How to avoid common purchase mistakes
- Start with the console. PS4 buyers should compare The Story So Far and All-In-One; PS5 and Switch 2 buyers should look for Collection [I–III].
- Check for Kingdom Hearts III. Its absence is intentional in The Story So Far, not a missing installation.
- Check the DLC line. Re Mind is explicit in Collection [I–III] but separate on the PS4 All-In-One listing.
- Read the format notes. A current-generation physical copy requires an internet connection and additional download.
- Check existing ownership. Storefronts warn that the same content appears in separate products and other bundles.
- Confirm the region and edition. Physical availability and release details can differ by market; the announced European PS4 physical date was June 12, 2025, while the Switch 2 release is listed for October 8, 2026.
What the series’ sales figure tells you—and what it does not
Square Enix Holdings reported more than 37 million Kingdom Hearts units shipped worldwide in 2024. That figure covers the series broadly; it is not a claim about sales of any one collection, platform or regional edition. It does explain why several overlapping compilations exist: the publisher has continued packaging the long-running catalog for different hardware generations and entry points.
