To keep a managed Android screen on while it is charging, configure Intune’s Screen on while device plugged in setting and select the power sources used by your devices. Microsoft documents the setting for corporate-owned fully managed and dedicated Android Enterprise devices; it is separate from Screen timeout.
Which Android devices can use this Intune setting?
Microsoft documents Screen on while device plugged in for Android Enterprise corporate-owned fully managed (COBO) and corporate-owned dedicated (COSU) devices. Dedicated devices are intended for single-purpose deployments and can be locked to one app or a limited set of apps, including kiosk-style use. How to configure Screen on while device plugged in
- Create or edit an Android Enterprise device restrictions profile, or use the settings catalog. In the settings catalog, locate the Power setting named Screen on while device plugged in. Microsoft documents both approaches for configuring Android device settings. See Android settings catalog in Intune and Android device restriction settings.
- Select the charging modes your deployment uses. The choices are AC, USB, and Wireless. Select the applicable mode or modes; compatibility differs by mode, as shown below.
- Assign the profile to the intended managed-device group. Check the policy status in Intune and verify the display behavior on representative devices and with the kiosk app, if applicable.
If you leave every mode unselected, Intune does not configure this setting and the device follows its default screen-timeout behavior. Microsoft does not specify a particular charger model, connector, or wattage, nor does the policy documentation guarantee uninterrupted visibility on every Android device. For USB-powered installations, confirm the device’s connector and power requirements before choosing accessories.

Choose the power mode that matches the hardware

These are compatibility thresholds in Microsoft’s documentation, not performance measurements or a guarantee for every device-and-charger combination. The setting only addresses the selected charging modes. Pilot the policy on the actual hardware and validate that the screen remains visible in the intended deployment.
How this differs from Screen timeout
Screen on while device plugged in controls whether the screen stays on while connected to selected power modes. Screen timeout is a separate control that specifies a duration before the screen turns off. Microsoft documents Screen timeout applicability by enrollment type and Android version; where supported, its configured value must be greater than zero and no greater than the Time to lock screen value. Consult the Android device restriction settings documentation for those applicability details.

If a device must remain visible while it is not charging, the plugged-in setting does not cover that use case. Check whether Screen timeout is supported for the device’s enrollment type and Android version, then configure and test the applicable timeout controls.

Verify the result on the target devices
- Confirm the Android Enterprise enrollment is corporate-owned fully managed or dedicated.
- Check that the device’s Android version meets the threshold for each selected power mode.
- Confirm the profile is assigned to the intended device group and review its status in Intune.
- Test the selected charging source on the actual device, including the app or kiosk experience that must remain visible.
