CoverMy Pet High is the Australian tier with the largest advertised annual vet-bill cap: A$8,000, compared with A$4,000 for Regular and A$2,000 for Light. That cap is not the same as an A$8,000 payout: an excess, a 15% policyholder contribution, treatment sublimits, eligibility rules and exclusions all affect what the insurer pays. Whether High is worthwhile depends on your pet’s quote and the current policy wording.
What is CoverMy Pet High?
CoverMy Pet High is an accident-and-illness insurance tier for cats and dogs in Australia. CoverMy’s official site identifies Sovereign Insurance Australia as the insurer, Petplan Australasia as arranger and administrator, and Futuristic Insurance Technology as its authorised representative and distributor. CoverMy Pet publishes the product information; use the current policy documents to confirm the contract terms.

The headline distinction is the annual vet-bill limit. The limit is a ceiling, not a promise to reimburse every eligible bill in full: the excess and co-payment apply, and some treatments have their own sublimits.

How High compares with Light and Regular
| Plan | Advertised annual vet-bill cap | What to bear in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Light | A$2,000 | Lower annual cap; check the same excess, contribution and treatment rules in the current policy documents. |
| Regular | A$4,000 | Middle annual cap; treatment eligibility and any sublimits still apply. |
| High | A$8,000 | Largest annual cap among these tiers; it does not remove the excess, co-payment, exclusions or treatment sublimits. |
These are the plans’ stated annual caps, not a ranking of overall value. The right comparison is the cap alongside the pet-specific premium and the treatment categories and limits that matter to you. Finder’s comparison dated 24 June 2026 lists a A$3,000 yearly paralysis-tick sublimit for High. That is a treatment-specific ceiling, so a higher general annual cap does not necessarily raise the amount payable for that condition. Finder’s CoverMy Pet comparison gives High an 8.8 plan score; that is Finder’s own rating, not a regulator assessment or a measure of customer satisfaction.

What you pay when you make a claim
CoverMy Pet’s FAQ describes a A$100 excess per claim and a 15% policyholder contribution after the excess. Finder describes High as reimbursing 85% of eligible costs, consistent with that 15% contribution. In broad terms, you pay the excess and your share of eligible costs; CoverMy pays the remaining eligible share, subject to the policy’s limits and exclusions. The calculation can also be affected by a treatment sublimit, so do not treat 85% as applying without qualification to every invoice or as a guarantee of payment.
For example, even if a bill falls below the annual cap, an excluded service is not made eligible by the cap, and a treatment-specific limit can restrict the benefit. Check how the current wording applies the excess and contribution to the particular claim type rather than estimating from the annual cap alone. CoverMy Pet’s FAQ and policy information are the place to verify current terms.

What treatments and conditions may be covered?
CoverMy Pet’s FAQ says plan-dependent cover can include cancer treatment, cruciate ligament issues, veterinary consultations, skin conditions and tick paralysis. “Can include” matters: eligibility, definitions, waiting periods and any condition-specific limit depend on the current policy documents. Finder identifies the A$3,000 yearly paralysis-tick sublimit for High in its 24 June 2026 comparison.

What CoverMy Pet does not cover
CoverMy Pet’s FAQ says routine check-ups, dental care, behavioural therapy and alternative treatments are not included. Finder also identifies pre-existing conditions, dental illness, breeding costs and elective procedures among exclusions. These are summaries, not a complete statement of the contract; exclusions and definitions in the current PDS and policy wording control.
- If you mainly want help with routine preventive care or dental expenses, the stated exclusions are a significant mismatch.
- If your pet has a prior diagnosis or treatment history, check the wording’s pre-existing-condition definition rather than assuming the condition will be covered.
- For an accident or illness you expect to insure, verify any applicable waiting period, sublimit and eligibility definition in the policy documents.
How much does CoverMy Pet High cost?
CoverMy Pet’s homepage displayed an example High premium of A$14.32 per fortnight for a domestic shorthair cat; the site said the displayed prices were accurate as of November 2025. CoverMy states that premiums vary according to the pet and chosen cover. This is a dated example, not a current quote for your animal. Get a quote for your own pet and compare the recurring premium with the annual cap, excess, co-payment and relevant sublimits.

How to make a claim
CoverMy Pet says claims can be submitted by email or post. Its stated requirements are a completed claim form, an itemised veterinary invoice and treatment or consultation notes. For a first claim—or if more than 12 months have passed since the previous claim—it also requests the pet’s full clinical history. The company says postal claims may take longer.

Cancellation and cooling-off
CoverMy Pet’s FAQ describes a 21-day cooling-off period with a refund if no claim has been made. It says cancellation after that period may involve a pro-rata premium deduction and reasonable administration fees. Confirm the current cancellation terms in the policy documents before purchase or cancellation.
Is CoverMy Pet High worth considering?
High is most relevant if you want a larger annual accident-and-illness cap than Light or Regular offer, and the quote fits your budget after accounting for the excess and 15% contribution. Its A$8,000 cap may be useful for eligible costs, but it does not erase treatment sublimits or exclusions. If routine check-ups or dental care are the main expenses you want help with, the stated exclusions make this tier a poor fit for that purpose.
- Compare the actual quote: the published cat premium is only a dated example, not your price.
- Check relevant treatment limits: in particular, review sublimits and definitions for conditions you are concerned about.
- Read the exclusions and waiting periods: confirm them in the current PDS and policy wording.
- Assess affordability at claim time: include the A$100 excess and your share of eligible costs in your decision.
Make the decision from your pet’s quote and the current contract documents, not from the A$8,000 headline alone.
