Choose 007 First Light if you want a directed, cinematic James Bond origin story that combines stealth with gunfights, hand-to-hand combat, gadgets, driving, bluffing and large set pieces. Choose HITMAN World of Assassination if you want repeatable assassination sandboxes where disguises, target routines, tools and experimentation are the main event.
Both come from IO Interactive, but they ask you to play stealth in fundamentally different ways. First Light uses player choice inside authored Bond missions; HITMAN gives you locations to revisit until you understand their systems and can invent your own solutions.

007 First Light is a standalone, reimagined James Bond origin story. IO Interactive describes it as a third-person, single-player action-adventure that blends stealth and action rather than treating stealth as the only valid way through a mission. Bond can fight with weapons or his fists, use Q-style gadgets, drive vehicles, investigate situations and bluff when suspicion rises.

That combination makes First Light a spy adventure with a strong authored spine. You are following Bond’s development and moving through set pieces designed for cinematic impact, while still choosing how to gather information, bypass danger or confront it directly. The game is therefore closer to a Bond film that lets you improvise within scenes than to an endlessly reusable assassination laboratory.
Creative Approach and Instinct
The gameplay reveal names the central system Creative Approach. Its spycraft options include eavesdropping, pickpocketing, environmental investigation and information gathering. These activities are useful before a confrontation: learning who is present, finding an item or understanding a situation can open a different route through the same mission.
Instinct supports Bond’s ability to read and manipulate a scene. The reveal shows it being used to lure enemies, bluff through suspicion and improve combat precision. Those functions point to a hybrid stealth model: you can preserve cover through social deception, turn an enemy’s attention into an opportunity, or let a carefully timed fight carry the scene forward.
Bond spectacle is part of the loop
First Light’s reveal includes car chases, shootouts, a hacked airplane and an open-sky sequence. These are not optional decorations around a pure stealth game; they signal that the campaign intentionally changes tempo. A quiet investigation can lead to a chase, a firefight or a large-scale escape. If you want a game that regularly delivers authored cinematic beats alongside stealth, this is the stronger fit.
What kind of game is HITMAN World of Assassination?
HITMAN World of Assassination stars Agent 47 and is built around freedom of approach. IO Interactive presents it as a collection of large, explorable assassination locations rather than a linear origin story. The current official description lists 21 or more locations, high-profile targets, disguises and tools, with ongoing content updates in 2026.
Each location is a system to learn. You observe a target’s routine, identify who can enter restricted areas, find useful objects and decide how much risk to accept. A disguise may let 47 walk through a guarded door; a tool may create a distraction or an apparent accident; an environmental opportunity may require several minutes of setup. The satisfaction comes from understanding the location well enough to attempt a plan, then trying a completely different one on the next run.
Why HITMAN feels different from a campaign stealth game
HITMAN does not primarily ask, “Can you get through this scene?” It asks, “What can you make happen here?” The same target can be reached through social access, a concealed tool, a manipulated routine or another solution you discover through experimentation. Failure is often information: a guard noticed a disguise, a route was blocked or a timing window closed. You can restart, adjust one variable and test the theory again.

This structure favors players who enjoy deliberate observation and repeated runs. The game can be tense, but its tension usually comes from maintaining a plan inside a living location rather than from being pushed from one cinematic beat to the next.
How their pacing and mission structures compare
First Light: authored momentum with room to improvise
First Light’s origin-story format gives missions a defined dramatic direction. The campaign can move from investigation to stealth, combat and a vehicle sequence without asking you to remain in one mode. Alternate approaches and replay modifiers add flexibility, but the mission remains an authored Bond episode with a beginning, escalation and payoff.
That pacing suits players who want clear progress and a strong sense of place. You can make meaningful choices without needing to memorize every guard route or replay a location dozens of times. The trade-off is that the number of possible outcomes is bounded by the mission design; the game is not presented as an unlimited sandbox.
HITMAN: locations designed for repeated study
World of Assassination’s 21+ locations are intended to be revisited. Target routines, security layers, disguises and tools create a network of possibilities that becomes richer as you learn it. A first attempt may be reconnaissance; later attempts can be tightly planned challenges or deliberately chaotic experiments.
The trade-off is pacing. If you prefer constant narrative propulsion, spending time watching a route or searching a building can feel slow. If you like solving a space as a puzzle and then finding a cleaner solution, that same slowness is the point.
Which game has deeper stealth?
“Deeper” depends on what you want stealth to mean. First Light expands stealth into broader spycraft: listening for information, lifting an item, investigating the environment, bluffing through suspicion and using gadgets before a fight. Its Instinct system also lets stealth flow into combat by improving precision or manipulating enemy attention.
HITMAN concentrates depth in social stealth and systemic interaction. Disguises change where Agent 47 can go; tools and environmental opportunities change what can happen there. The challenge is not merely staying unseen. It is building a believable chain of access and timing that places 47 close to the target without exposing him.

Choose First Light if you want stealth to share equal billing with action, gadgets and movement. Choose HITMAN if you want stealth to be the central puzzle and are happy to replay a location until its systems make sense.
Combat, gadgets and traversal
First Light’s broader action mix
PlayStation’s description explicitly includes unarmed and armed combat, stealth, gadgets, vehicles and bluffing. That gives First Light a wider moment-to-moment vocabulary. A mission can reward a quiet approach, then ask you to shoot, fight, drive or survive a spectacle sequence. Q-style gadgets support the spy fantasy, while the third-person view keeps Bond’s physical movement and combat readable during transitions between stealth and action.
If you are buying one game because you want driving and set pieces as well as infiltration, First Light is the clear choice from the documented feature set. It is also the better match for players who dislike restarting an entire plan whenever a guard notices them; Instinct and direct combat are designed to let a compromised situation continue.
HITMAN’s tools are means to an assassination
HITMAN also gives you a large toolkit, but its tools are organized around reaching and eliminating a target. Disguises, distractions and environmental interactions matter because they alter access, timing and risk. The game does not present driving, Bond-style chases or a campaign-wide combat arc as its defining features. Its strongest form of variety comes from what you can do inside each location.
Replayability: modifiers versus a systemic playground
How First Light approaches a second run
First Light confirms mission replay with modifiers. After completing a mission, you can return to test another route or change the conditions rather than treating the campaign as finished forever. The value of those replays is challenge and variation inside a Bond mission: perhaps a different approach, a different use of spycraft or a more demanding modifier.

Because First Light is an origin story, replay is likely to complement the campaign rather than replace it. The documented features support meaningful repeat attempts, but they do not establish an infinite number of outcomes or a location count comparable to HITMAN’s 21-plus spaces.
Why HITMAN usually wins on repeat experimentation
World of Assassination is structured around repeated runs from the start. Every revisit can test a new disguise, route, tool, timing window or accident. The large location count gives those experiments room to spread across different environments, while ongoing 2026 content updates indicate that the offering continues to receive additions.

This does not automatically make HITMAN better for everyone. Replayability has a cost in attention: you need to remember layouts, watch routines and accept that a successful solution may take several attempts. If you prefer to finish a story and move to the next set piece, First Light’s replay system may feel more respectful of your time.
Story, tone and player motivation
Pick First Light for Bond’s origin
First Light is built around a reimagined Bond origin. Its motivation is narrative: seeing how this version of 007 develops, forms relationships and learns to operate as a spy. The cinematic structure, gadgets and set pieces reinforce that identity. You are not simply solving a target puzzle; you are inhabiting a character whose choices move a story forward.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak described the project this way: “With 007 First Light, we’re building a wholly original James Bond experience from the ground up, one that blends the sharp tension of espionage with the bold spectacle the franchise is known for. The gameplay is rooted in our signature approach to immersive design, combining stealth, action, and creativity in a way that feels uniquely tailored to Bond.”
Pick HITMAN for player-authored stories
HITMAN’s stories are often the incidents you create while solving a mission. The target, location and supporting characters provide the setup; your disguise, route and chosen method determine the memorable outcome. Players who enjoy discussing clever solutions, accidental chain reactions or unusually clean escapes will find more room for that kind of self-authored narrative.
The two motivations can coexist, but they should not be confused. First Light asks you to follow Bond through an authored adventure while making tactical choices. HITMAN asks you to create the story of how Agent 47 reached the target.

Which one should you buy?
Choose 007 First Light when these statements sound like you
- You want to play a new James Bond origin story rather than create your own assassination scenarios.
- You prefer a campaign that moves between stealth, gunfights, hand-to-hand combat, gadgets, driving and cinematic spectacle.
- You enjoy making choices inside a mission but do not want every objective to require extensive route memorization.
- You value bluffing, eavesdropping, pickpocketing and investigation as much as traditional sneaking.
- You want replayable missions with modifiers after seeing the main story.
Choose HITMAN World of Assassination when these statements sound like you
- You want disguises, social access and tools to be the core of stealth.
- You enjoy studying target routines and revisiting a location to improve a plan.
- You prefer emergent solutions and player-authored outcomes to a directed cinematic campaign.
- You want a large set of explorable assassination locations; IO Interactive currently lists 21 or more.
- You treat failure as useful information and enjoy testing one changed variable at a time.
Use this tie-breaker
- Imagine your ideal first hour. If it is a Bond-style sequence that can move from eavesdropping to a chase or firefight, select First Light.
- If it is watching a target, borrowing a disguise, opening a restricted route and trying an unusual tool, select HITMAN.
- Decide whether you want replay to mean “try this mission with a new condition” or “return to this location and invent a new assassination.” The first points to First Light; the second points to HITMAN.
- Check your platform. First Light is currently listed on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Switch 2 in March 2027.
Is 007 First Light like HITMAN?
It is similar in its foundation: both are IO Interactive stealth-action games that reward observation, creativity and more than one way through a situation. Both let you decide when to avoid danger and when to exploit an opening.
They are not the same type of experience. First Light is a third-person Bond adventure with a directed origin story, combat momentum, vehicles, gadgets, bluffing and set pieces. HITMAN is a full-freedom assassination game centered on Agent 47, disguises, tools, target routines and repeated exploration of 21-plus locations. Calling First Light “HITMAN with Bond skins” would miss the action-adventure structure; calling HITMAN a Bond campaign would miss its systemic, replay-first design.
First Light editions and what is actually established
The strongest named product option is the 007 First Light Specialist Edition. IO Interactive says this edition is offered exclusively on Amazon.com and includes unique packaging plus a Classic Tux outfit. The available information does not establish a price, stock level, discount or how long the offer will remain available, so treat the retailer listing as the authority for those details.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA standard 007 First Light PS5 listing is the straightforward route for players who want the base game rather than the Amazon-exclusive Specialist Edition. No evidence here supports claims about comparative value, bonus content beyond the stated Classic Tux outfit, or availability in a particular country.
What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The documented features support a preference-based recommendation, not a universal winner. There is no independent sales figure, review score, performance benchmark or player-count statistic established for this comparison. There is also no evidence that the two games share a campaign or offer matching multiplayer modes. The practical conclusion comes from their structures: First Light is forward-moving spy cinema with mission-level choice, while HITMAN is a repeatable assassination playground.
If your priority is Bond’s mixture of stealth, action and spectacle, buy First Light. If your priority is the deepest documented focus on disguises, target routes, tools and repeated experimentation, buy HITMAN World of Assassination.
