Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The original Jabra Elite 8 Active is built around workout durability: Jabra rates the earbuds IP68 and the charging case IP54, and equips them with Adaptive Hybrid ANC and ShakeGrip. That makes the earbuds a credible option to consider for running and sweaty training, but the lower-rated case deserves separate care. Jabra’s battery figures are estimates, and the available independent evidence supports a cautious assessment rather than a definitive ranking against newer models.
What this review covers
This is the original Elite 8 Active, not the Elite 8 Active Gen 2. Jabra announced Gen 2 on June 11, 2024, so check the generation named in a current product listing before buying; the models should not be treated as interchangeable. Jabra’s Gen 2 announcement

Is it suitable for running and sweaty workouts?
The key practical distinction is between the earbuds and their case. Jabra specifies IP68 for the earbuds and IP54 for the charging case. The earbuds’ rating and Jabra’s ShakeGrip feature are relevant to active use, but ratings do not guarantee a particular person’s fit or that the earbuds will remain secure during every run. If fit is a deciding factor, try them during movement if you can, and confirm they stay comfortable and stable before relying on them for training.

How water-resistant are the earbuds and case?
| Part | Jabra rating | Practical reading |
|---|---|---|
| Earbuds | IP68 | Jabra specifies this rating for the earbuds. It is not a promise of protection from every kind of water exposure or damage. |
| Charging case | IP54 | The case has a lower rating than the earbuds. Do not assume it can be submerged or treated like the earbuds. |
The ratings come from Jabra’s product information and 2023 technical sheet. Jabra’s phrase “Fully dust & waterproof earbuds (IP68) and case (IP54)” should be read alongside the separate ratings: the case is not IP68. Jabra product page · Jabra technical sheet (2023)
Noise cancellation, calls, and everyday features
Jabra lists Adaptive Hybrid ANC, spatial sound powered by Dolby Audio, and six-microphone call technology among the original model’s features. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of a particular listening or call result. Jabra technical sheet (2023)

Independent evidence surfaced for this model is limited. RTINGS characterizes its durability positively and calls microphone performance satisfactory; those findings are useful, but do not establish a detailed verdict on sound, fit, or noise cancellation. RTINGS review
There is one dated ANC-related change worth knowing about: SoundGuys reports that a firmware update on March 26, 2024 improved adaptive ANC. Jabra’s support page for the same date says it updated call microphone noise cancellation and wind-noise reduction in ANC and HearThrough modes. This is not confirmation of the latest firmware version as of October 4, 2026. SoundGuys review · Jabra support page

Gen 2 exists, but the available evidence here does not support a complete head-to-head judgment or a claim that one generation is categorically better. Compare the exact listing and consider the factors that affect your use: exercise fit and stability, separate earbud and case ratings, ANC performance in noisy or windy places, real-world battery life, call clarity, comfort, and current price. The original’s specifications are established above; Gen 2’s existence and June 2024 announcement are confirmed by Jabra. Jabra’s Gen 2 announcement

Who should consider the original?
- Consider it if you want workout-oriented earbuds with an IP68 rating for the earbuds and value the listed ANC and call features.
- Check carefully if your decision depends on a specific fit, detailed sound comparisons, current firmware, regional stock, or price; those points are not established by the cited specifications and reviews summarized here.
- Keep the case separate from the earbuds when judging water protection: its stated rating is IP54, not IP68.
