Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor most Australian SaaS teams, Sprinto, Scytale, Drata, Secureframe or Vanta are the practical starting points; the right choice depends on evidence automation, framework scope, hosting location and who will support your audit. Larger organisations may prefer Hyperproof or Optro, while documentation-led programmes can fit ISMS.online and audit-supported deployments can fit Thoropass or Scrut Automation.
ISO 27001 software organises an information security management system (ISMS): it maps controls, assigns owners, gathers evidence from connected systems, tracks risks and prepares an audit trail. It does not issue an ISO 27001 certificate. Certification still comes from an accredited certification body, and Australia’s IRAP assessment remains an assessor-led engagement.

Which ISO 27001 platform should an Australian company choose?
Start with your operating model rather than a star rating. A cloud-native startup seeking its first certification usually benefits from guided workflows and many integrations. A company with an established security team may need granular control ownership, risk treatment and API access. An enterprise may value multi-framework mapping and integration with a wider governance, risk and compliance (GRC) programme. Australian buyers also need answers about data residency, local support and how the platform evidence will support, but not replace, obligations such as the Essential Eight, Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), CPS 234 or an IRAP assessment.

What ISO 27001 software actually does
An ISO 27001 platform is a working layer for your ISMS, not a substitute for security engineering or an auditor. Typical functions include:
- Control mapping: linking ISO 27001:2022 Annex A controls to policies, risks, assets, people and technical systems.
- Evidence collection: pulling screenshots, configuration data, tickets, logs, training records and other proof from identity, HR, cloud, endpoint and development tools.
- Control monitoring: checking connected systems on a schedule and flagging drift, expired evidence or failed tests.
- Risk and treatment workflows: recording risks, owners, likelihood, impact, treatment decisions and residual risk.
- Audit preparation: organising a Statement of Applicability (SoA), policy versions, evidence requests and auditor collaboration in one workspace.
- Framework reuse: mapping one control set to additional frameworks so the same evidence can support more than one obligation.
The software can make preparation faster and more consistent, but it cannot decide whether your controls are effective in your business, interview staff on an auditor’s behalf or award certification. An accredited certification body performs the ISO 27001 certification audit.
ISO 27001:2022 facts Australian buyers need
ISO 27001:2022 contains 93 Annex A controls grouped into four themes: organisational, people, physical and technological controls. The transition period from ISO 27001:2013 closed in October 2025, so a new implementation or renewal in 2026 should be designed around the 2022 edition and its updated control structure.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Ask every vendor to demonstrate that its content is aligned to ISO 27001:2022, not merely a legacy 2013 checklist. A credible implementation should let you document why each Annex A control is applicable or not applicable, record the justification, assign an owner and attach evidence. That output is your SoA; it is one of the first artefacts an auditor will expect.

Sprinto
Sprinto targets cloud-native startups pursuing a first certification. Its described strengths are guided workflows, more than 200 connectors and drift monitoring, which can reduce manual collection from identity, cloud and development systems. The comparison does not establish onshore Australian hosting, so ask where tenant data and backups are stored.
Secureframe
Secureframe is aimed at mid-sized teams that already have internal security capability. Its offering is described as covering more than 40 frameworks with guided controls. An available UK option is not the same as Australian residency; obtain the precise region and disaster-recovery locations in writing.
Thoropass
Thoropass combines a software platform with an in-house audit practice. That can simplify coordination when you want one commercial relationship for preparation and audit services. Confirm that the proposed certification body is accredited for ISO/IEC 27001 in the jurisdiction relevant to your certificate and that any Australian regulatory assessment you need is separately covered.
ISMS.online
ISMS.online is suited to programmes where policy, risk and documentation quality are the main bottlenecks. Its described strengths include templates, an SoA workflow and risk management. The comparison characterises its evidence automation as lighter than the more connector-heavy products, so check the exact systems you need to monitor and how often they are checked.
Scrut Automation
Scrut Automation focuses on risk-led, continuous oversight. The comparison describes real-time risk visibility, automated testing and bundled audit support. There is no published onshore-hosting claim in the comparison; validate residency, support location and the division of responsibilities between the software team and any audit provider.

Optro (formerly AuditBoard)
Optro places ISO 27001 inside a broader enterprise integrated-risk-management suite. It makes most sense when internal audit, enterprise risk and compliance teams need a shared system rather than a narrowly focused certification tool. Evaluate implementation effort carefully: an enterprise suite can provide wider governance value but may be more process-heavy than a startup-oriented product.
Drata
Drata is positioned for scaling, multi-framework programmes and provides risk management, custom controls, compliance-as-code and Open API access. Its plans page describes personalised pricing and a Foundation tier with a pre-mapped framework option that includes ISO 27001. No Australian-residency commitment is published in the supplied material, so make hosting and backup geography a contract question.
Vanta
Vanta is aimed at complex multi-cloud environments, with continuous monitoring and a broad framework ecosystem. A Frankfurt hosting option is identified, but that is European rather than onshore Australian residency. Check connector permissions, monitoring frequency, evidence retention and whether your auditor accepts the generated evidence format.

Australian regulatory and hosting questions
Essential Eight
ISO 27001 and the Essential Eight address related but different needs. ISO 27001 is a management-system standard requiring risk-based governance and continual improvement. The Essential Eight is an Australian mitigation-strategy framework focused on specific cyber-security practices. A platform can map evidence between them, but an ISO certificate does not automatically demonstrate an Essential Eight maturity level. Ask the vendor to show the actual crosswalk, identify unmapped requirements and explain which evidence must still be collected manually.
Australian Privacy Principles
If your organisation handles personal information covered by the Privacy Act, include APP obligations in the control and risk design. The platform should help you assign owners, document data-handling risks and retain evidence of safeguards, breach processes and supplier reviews. Do not assume that an ISO 27001 template contains every privacy obligation relevant to your business or sector.
CPS 234
APRA-regulated entities may have CPS 234 obligations covering information-security capability, controls, testing and incident notification. A compliance platform can organise control evidence and testing records, but your board, accountable information-security function and regulated entity remain responsible for meeting CPS 234. Confirm that the chosen control library and reporting workflow match your APRA scope.

IRAP
IRAP is an assessor-led process. Software can prepare policies, control mappings and evidence that an IRAP assessor may review, but it cannot perform the assessment or grant an IRAP outcome. If you need an IRAP assessment, budget for a qualified assessor and treat the platform as an evidence-management aid.

Ask these questions before signing:
- Where are primary production data, backups, logs and support exports stored?
- Can you select an Australian or APAC region, and is that option available on your plan?
- Which subprocessors can access tenant data, from which countries and for what purpose?
- What deletion, retention, export and legal-hold controls are available?
- Are support staff onshore, in APAC or global, and what are the response-time commitments?
- Will the contract state the approved regions rather than relying on a sales description?
Certification-body accreditation
Software selection and certification-body selection are separate decisions. Verify that the body conducting your audit is accredited for ISO/IEC 27001 in the jurisdiction relevant to your certificate. If a vendor bundles audit services, ask for the legal identity of the certification body, its accreditation scope and how auditor independence is maintained.
How to choose a platform: a practical sequence
- Define the certification boundary. List legal entities, products, offices, cloud accounts, employees, suppliers and data flows that will be inside the ISMS.
- Record your frameworks. Mark ISO 27001:2022, Essential Eight, APP-related controls, CPS 234 or customer requirements that apply now or are likely within the next audit cycle.
- Inventory integrations. Make a spreadsheet of your identity provider, HR system, cloud accounts, endpoint tools, ticketing, source control, CI/CD, vulnerability management and training systems. Ask each vendor to demonstrate those exact connectors.
- Test evidence quality. During a trial, inspect a real control: what data is collected, how often, what a failure looks like, who receives it and how an auditor exports it.
- Inspect the SoA workflow. Confirm that you can mark applicability, document rationale, assign owners, link risks and produce a readable SoA for your auditor.
- Validate residency and contracts. Obtain written answers on hosting, backups, subprocessors, support access, retention and deletion before comparing prices.
- Compare support models. Distinguish software-only support, compliance coaching, vCISO services and an actual certification audit. Price each separately.
- Model reuse. Estimate how many controls and evidence items can support other frameworks. Reuse is valuable only when mappings are transparent and remain current.
- Check exit options. Require exports of policies, risks, evidence metadata, test history, audit comments and the SoA in usable formats if you later change platforms.
A sensible ISO 27001 implementation workflow
The platform works best when the implementation is run as a controlled project rather than a checklist exercise.
- Set governance and scope. Appoint an accountable owner, define decision rights and approve the ISMS boundary.
- Perform the context and interested-party analysis. Record customer, legal, contractual and operational requirements that shape security objectives.
- Build the asset and data inventory. Connect systems only after ownership, criticality and data classification are clear.
- Run the risk assessment. Use a documented method, consistent scoring and named owners; record treatment and acceptance decisions.
- Create the SoA. Map the 93 Annex A controls, justify exclusions and link each applicable control to policies, procedures and evidence.
- Implement and test controls. Configure technical safeguards, train staff, run access reviews, test backups and record exceptions.
- Monitor continuously. Use automated checks where reliable, but schedule manual reviews for governance, supplier risk, physical security and management decisions.
- Complete internal audit and management review. Resolve nonconformities and retain minutes, findings, corrective actions and effectiveness checks.
- Prepare for certification. Give the certification body a coherent scope statement, SoA, risk records, policies, evidence and corrective-action history.
Indicative costs and what a quote should include
Control Stack’s June 2026 comparison gives approximate starting estimates of about A$22,000 per year for Drata, A$25,000 per year for Vanta and A$15,000 per year for Scytale. These are publisher estimates, not vendor quotes or guaranteed Australian prices. Sales-led vendors may price by employee count, frameworks, scope, integrations, support level or audit services. Control Stack is described as having free and paid tiers.
| Cost component | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Platform subscription | Annual or multi-year term, included frameworks, seats, entities, environments and evidence volume. |
| Implementation | One-time setup, policy templates, connector configuration, risk workshops and migration from another system. |
| Compliance support | Office hours, guided tasks, vCISO or expert-led services, response times and named contacts. |
| Audit services | Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification fees, surveillance audits, travel and the legal identity of the certification body. |
| Expansion | Additional frameworks, subsidiaries, cloud accounts, custom controls, API usage and extra storage. |
| Exit and retention | Data export format, post-termination access, deletion timing and fees for retrieving evidence. |
Drata’s plans page confirms personalised pricing and describes a Foundation tier with a pre-mapped framework option including ISO 27001, plus risk management, custom controls, compliance-as-code and Open API access. Treat that description as a feature signal, then request a written quote for your scope.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Choosing by review score alone
A high score does not answer where data is hosted, whether your identity provider is supported or whether an auditor accepts the evidence. Use ratings to create a shortlist, then run a scope-specific demonstration.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Assuming automation equals compliance
Automated screenshots cannot replace risk decisions, management review, staff interviews, supplier oversight or testing of whether a control works. Assign human owners and retain the reasoning behind exceptions.
Buying a 2013 checklist
Because the transition closed in October 2025, require ISO 27001:2022 content, the 93-control structure and an SoA that reflects your applicability decisions.
Confusing IRAP with ISO certification
Plan IRAP as a separate assessor-led engagement. Reuse evidence where appropriate, but do not promise customers that an ISO certificate is an IRAP assessment.
Leaving residency until procurement
Regional hosting may be a plan-specific option, and backup or support locations can differ from the primary region. Put all approved locations and subprocessors into the contract.
Ignoring evidence drift
Connectors can fail when permissions, APIs or cloud configurations change. Set alert ownership, review failed checks promptly and retain an explanation when a temporary exception is accepted.
Underestimating internal workload
The platform reduces administration; it does not create policies, approve risk, train staff or remediate insecure systems. Budget time from engineering, IT, HR, legal, procurement and senior management.
Bottom line
Choose the platform that can prove your controls in the systems you actually run, in a hosting arrangement your Australian customers and regulators accept, with an SoA and evidence trail an accredited auditor can use. For a first cloud-native certification, begin with Sprinto or a comparable guided platform; for expert-led or broader framework work, evaluate Scytale, Drata, Secureframe or Vanta; for enterprise governance, assess Hyperproof or Optro; and for documentation or bundled audit support, examine ISMS.online, Thoropass or Scrut Automation. In every case, keep ISO 27001 certification and IRAP assessment responsibilities with the appropriate accredited or assessor-led organisations.
