As of 4 October 2026, Apple’s India eligibility list names Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards. It does not list other Indian banks’ cards or Axis debit cards, so a Visa or Mastercard logo alone does not mean a card can be added. Check the exact card with Axis Bank or try adding it to Apple Wallet.
Which Indian bank cards work with Apple Pay?
Apple announced Apple Pay’s India launch on 30 September 2026. On the India issuer list checked on 4 October 2026, Axis Bank is the listed issuer, and the eligible products are Visa and Mastercard credit cards. See Apple’s India launch announcement and its India bank and issuer list.

This is not a blanket approval for every Axis card, nor for every Indian Visa or Mastercard. Apple says some cards issued by participating banks may not be supported. The current list does not name Axis debit cards, prepaid cards, or cards from other Indian banks. If you hold one of those, the accurate answer is that it is not currently listed by Apple; the issuer can confirm whether your specific product is eligible.
Check your card and device
Check these requirements in order before attempting setup:

- Issuer: Axis Bank is the Indian issuer named on Apple’s current list.
- Network: The listed networks are Visa and Mastercard.
- Card type: The listed products are credit cards. Do not infer eligibility for a debit, prepaid, co-branded, or other card just from its issuer or network logo.
- Device and software: Apple’s India launch requirements are an iPhone XR or later with iOS 18 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 6 or later with watchOS 11 or later paired with an iPhone XR or later.
Apple’s launch announcement says iPad is supported in India for Apple Pay, while Mac support was described as coming soon at launch. For the current device and software details, consult Apple’s launch announcement and its issuer list.
Add an eligible card to Apple Pay
- Use the latest Axis Bank app and choose its Apple Pay card-add option, or open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
- In Wallet, tap the plus/add-card control and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Complete any verification requested by the card issuer. A supported card and compatible device are required; issuer verification may be part of setup. See Apple’s setup guidance.
If setup is declined or Wallet says the card is unsupported, contact Axis Bank about that exact card. A bank’s participation does not guarantee that every card product it issues can be provisioned.

Where and how can you use it in India?
Apple lists in-store, app, and web purchases as supported in India. In a shop, double-click the iPhone side button or Home button, authenticate if prompted, and hold the top of the iPhone near the contactless reader. With Apple Watch, double-click the side button and hold the display near the reader. Payment still depends on the merchant accepting contactless payments and the issuer authorizing the transaction. Apple says the physical card number is not stored on the device or Apple servers and is not shared with merchants. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is encrypted and stored in the device’s Secure Element. Apple also says it does not retain transaction information that can be tied back to a user. These are Apple’s stated practices, described in its India launch announcement.

Apple does not charge users a fee for Apple Pay purchases, but the card issuer may apply its usual card fees. An iPhone or Apple Watch can make an in-store Apple Pay purchase without Wi-Fi or cellular service; transaction history may appear after the device reconnects. See Apple’s Apple Pay FAQ.

India’s contactless payment terminals and a card’s Visa or Mastercard network logo do not by themselves establish Apple Pay eligibility. The relevant check is the combination of issuer, network, card product, and compatible device. Apple says it will update its issuer list as more banks are added, so check the current India list again if your card is not listed today.
