No—not the standard Samsung Galaxy A51 (SM-A515), based on the official documentation reviewed. Samsung’s sources do not establish a water-resistance rating for that model, so it should not be treated as splash proof or deliberately exposed to water. A separate Japanese carrier version, the Galaxy A51 5G SCG07, has a documented rating, but it does not apply to the standard A51.
Why the Galaxy A51 model number matters
“Galaxy A51” can refer to different regional and carrier variants. Their names may look similar, but a water-resistance claim for one does not certify another. Check the model number in the phone’s settings or on its packaging, then consult the manual for that exact model.

Samsung’s support page for the unlocked SM-A515U1 lists a user manual dated April 20, 2023. Samsung advises owners to consult the specific model’s manual when its water-resistance level is not covered by the models on its general guidance page. The reviewed official documentation does not establish a water-resistance rating for the standard SM-A515.
What the A51 5G SCG07 rating actually says
Japan’s au (KDDI) documents water protection for the distinct Galaxy A51 5G SCG07. Its online manual says the phone has protection equivalent to IPX5 and IPX8, and dust protection equivalent to IP6X, under au’s test method—with the au SIM/microSD tray fully installed. These figures describe that specific model and test procedure, not the standard A51.

- Trusted OtterBox Quality: With OtterBox, you're not just buying a case; you're investing in peace of mind. Our limited warranty covers material and workmanship defects
| SCG07 test | Condition described in au’s manual |
|---|---|
| IPX5-equivalent water-jet test | Water sprayed from all directions through a 6.3 mm nozzle, from about 3 m away, at about 12.5 litres per minute for at least 3 minutes. |
| IPX8-equivalent immersion test | Static tap water at ordinary temperature, 1.5 m deep, for about 30 minutes. |
The test conditions are not a promise of protection in every situation. The SCG07 manual warns that protection depends on the tray being securely fitted and that improper handling can let water or foreign material enter. It also says water-related failure may be excluded from warranty coverage under its stated conditions.
Can you use a standard Galaxy A51 in rain or near water?
Do not assume it is safe to use the standard A51 in rain, beside a sink, under a tap, or around splashes. Because the reviewed official sources do not certify the SM-A515 for water exposure, the prudent choice is to keep it dry and avoid immersion. This is a cautious recommendation based on the documentation—not proof that every individual SM-A515 will fail after incidental moisture.

Samsung’s general IP68 guidance is not evidence that the A51 has an IP68 rating. That guidance applies to the devices listed in it and notes that controlled water-resistance testing does not cover every real-world condition; forceful water exposure and impacts can also pose risks.
How to check your exact A51 variant
- Find the model number in the phone’s settings or on its packaging.
- Open Samsung’s support material for the matching model and read its user manual. If it is a carrier-specific or regional variant, use documentation for that exact version rather than relying on a similarly named A51.
- Look for an explicit water-resistance rating and its conditions. If the manual does not establish one, do not treat the phone as splash proof.
If your Galaxy A51 gets wet
Do not connect it to a charger while it is wet. Keep it unplugged until the exterior and charging port are dry, and follow the instructions in the manual for your exact model. The standard A51 documentation reviewed here does not establish a detailed water-damage recovery procedure, so avoid experimenting with water or relying on advice intended for a different variant.

Would a waterproof pouch help?
A waterproof phone pouch can provide an additional barrier when carrying a phone near water, but it does not change the handset’s own rating. Check that the pouch fits your exact A51 variant and case, and follow the pouch maker’s directions; the phone itself should still be treated as not water resistant unless its own manual says otherwise.
