Telephoto remains the main compromise: Sutrich found the Pixel’s results competitive in his examples, but behind the Honor Magic 8 Pro for zoom detail and range. These are the reviewer’s observations, not results from a separate hands-on test or standardized camera benchmark.
What makes Magic Capture stand out?
Magic Capture is the feature Sutrich likes most. It records video while Gemini selects highlight photos from the session, aiming to preserve spontaneous expressions or movement without requiring the photographer to anticipate every moment. Users can change zoom and take manual photos during capture, so automated selection supplements rather than replaces ordinary camera control.

The trade-off is timing: AI may choose a frame that is not the exact instant the user would have picked. Even with that limitation, Sutrich described it as “by far my favorite new camera feature of the last several years, making photo sessions fun and effortless for everyone.” That is his opinion of the feature, not a claim from Google.
How does Pixel 11 Pro handle detail and portraits?
Fine texture
In Sutrich’s comparison examples with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, he found that the Pixel retained texture in detail-heavy scenes where the iPhone image looked more smoothed. This is a reading of the images in one review, not a universal ranking: results can vary with the scene, settings, and processing preferences.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Portraits and selfies
Sutrich reports cleaner portrait edges and less digitally pixelated-looking selfies than he saw from the Pixel 10 Pro. Those changes matter most in close inspection of subject separation and facial detail; the review does not provide controlled measurements of blur artifacts or edge accuracy.
Where does the telephoto camera fall short?
The review describes an improvement, but not class-leading telephoto performance. In Sutrich’s examples, Pixel often preserved more detail than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, while the Honor Magic 8 Pro retained more than Pixel. The Honor also offered a wider zoom range and a telephoto sensor that gathered more detail in those comparisons.

Exposure and color differed too: Sutrich described Honor’s images as sometimes overexposed and more vibrant, while Pixel’s exposure looked more natural in the examples. That is a trade-off in rendering, not a simple win for one camera in every scene.

The review notes that generative enhancement is available at 30x and above on the phones compared, and can make zoomed images look believable up to a point. Sutrich treats 120x results as demonstrations rather than practical quality benchmarks. A high zoom number does not by itself show how much fine detail the camera captured natively; AI-enhanced output should be judged separately from ordinary telephoto images.

Which camera strengths matter most to you?
| What you value | What Sutrich’s review suggests |
|---|---|
| Catching expressions and motion | Magic Capture can record video and select highlight photos, with the caveat that its chosen moment may not match your preferred frame. |
| Natural-looking texture | In the review’s detail-heavy comparisons, Sutrich found more texture in Pixel images than in the iPhone 17 Pro Max examples. |
| Portraits and selfies | He reported cleaner portrait edges and less digitally pixelated-looking selfies than on the Pixel 10 Pro. |
| Long-range telephoto detail | Pixel improved, but Sutrich’s examples put it behind the Honor Magic 8 Pro for detail and available zoom range. |
| Extreme magnification | Treat 30x-and-higher generative enhancement cautiously; the reviewer regarded 120x as more demonstration than practical benchmark. |
How much weight should you give this comparison?
This is a single reviewer’s assessment, not a controlled lab test. The article does not give standardized measurements or a formal quantified camera benchmark, and its mention of hundreds of photos describes Sutrich’s own review sample rather than a population statistic. The comparisons are useful for understanding his impressions of processing, portraits, and zoom, but they do not establish that one phone will produce better results in every scene.
