The GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router for people who want configurable software, VPN routing and plenty of wired connections—not the newest Wi-Fi standard or built-in mesh. Its two 2.5GbE ports, four 1GbE LAN ports and USB 3.0 make it unusually flexible for a standalone router. RTINGS reports strong speed and range, but the router is physically bulky and has no 6 GHz band.
What the Flint 2 offers
The Flint 2 is a Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) router built around a MediaTek quad-core 2.0 GHz CPU, 1 GB of DDR4 memory and 8 GB of eMMC storage, according to GL.iNet’s product specifications. OpenWrt’s hardware listing identifies the platform as MediaTek Filogic 830 and corroborates the broad hardware configuration: OpenWrt’s GL-MT6000 entry.

Ports and advertised Wi-Fi rates
- Two 2.5GbE ports: one WAN port and one WAN/LAN port.
- Four 1GbE LAN ports.
- One USB 3.0 port.
- Advertised maximum Wi-Fi link rates of 1,148 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 4,804 Mbps at 5 GHz.
Those Wi-Fi figures are manufacturer-listed theoretical rates, not predictions of internet speed or the throughput a single device will achieve. Real results depend on the client device, distance, interference, router placement and broadband connection.

RTINGS’ review, published January 19, 2026 and modified September 30, 2026, reports excellent speeds at close to medium distances and long range it considers suitable for multiple users and multi-level homes. These are RTINGS’ assessments, not hands-on test results from this article. They do not guarantee coverage in every home; layout, building materials, interference and placement can change the outcome. Read RTINGS’ GL.iNet Flint 2 review for its full evaluation.

For latency, RTINGS considers the Flint 2 adequate for everyday browsing, video calls and non-competitive gaming, and recommends a wired connection for competitive gaming. The router’s six Ethernet ports, including two 2.5GbE ports, are useful if you have a multi-gigabit internet service or wired devices that can take advantage of faster-than-gigabit connections. A 2.5GbE port alone does not make a broadband plan or connected device faster than its own limits.
Does the Flint 2 support WireGuard and VPN routing?
Yes. GL.iNet advertises WireGuard VPN throughput of up to 900 Mbps. That is a manufacturer maximum, not an independently measured result or a guaranteed speed for a particular VPN provider, server, configuration or connection. RTINGS lists pre-installed VPN connectivity including WireGuard and OpenVPN, as well as Tailscale and ZeroTier.

VPN routing is a strong reason to consider the Flint 2 if you want configurable control over network traffic. The product page also lists Multi-WAN, failover and load balancing. RTINGS says the USB port can be used with storage or a cellular adapter or phone for cellular connectivity, including failover or load-balancing arrangements. These options add flexibility, but setup and results depend on the service and devices involved.

Can the Flint 2 replace an ISP router?
It can serve as your main router if your internet service and modem or gateway support connecting a third-party router. The Flint 2 has a WAN port and extensive routing features, but the available evidence does not establish compatibility with every ISP, access technology or gateway configuration. Check your provider’s requirements, including whether a modem, gateway passthrough or specific connection settings are needed, before replacing existing equipment.

- 【Connect up to 120 devices】Using revolutionary OFDMA technology to efficiently allocate channels communicate with multiple devices simultaneously help you increase capacity and efficiency
Does the Flint 2 support mesh?
RTINGS says the Flint 2 has no native mesh support. It does offer a software repeater mode, but that is not the same as a coordinated mesh system. If you need multiple access points managed as a mesh, treat native mesh support as a key comparison point rather than assuming a repeater can provide the same setup.
What you give up: 6 GHz and Wi-Fi 7
The Flint 2 is dual-band Wi-Fi 6: it has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios, but no 6 GHz band. It therefore cannot use the 6 GHz capabilities available to Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 clients. RTINGS compares it with the Wi-Fi 7 Flint 3, noting that Flint 3 adds 6 GHz and higher top speeds, while the Flint 2 delivers better long-range 5 GHz performance in its assessment. That distinction is more useful than declaring either router the universal winner: choose based on whether newer Wi-Fi features or long-range 5 GHz performance matters more to you.

- 【Rapid OpenVPN & Wireguard Speed】Wireguard VPN and OpenVPN both deliver speeds of up to 1100 Mbps, giving you complete control over your gaming, streaming and working bandwidth. - 【AdGuard Home Supported】Enables the use of a DNS server for blocking unwanted tracking and offers a convenient web interface for filtering selected digital advertisements. Users can take full control of their online experience and enjoy a clutter-free browsing environment with ease.
Is the GL.iNet Flint 2 worth it?
The Flint 2 is a good fit if you want a standalone router with configurable software, VPN options, Multi-WAN features and several fast wired ports. RTINGS’ findings on speed and range are encouraging for homes where a single router is appropriate, though they cannot promise coverage for a particular floor plan.
Look elsewhere if your priorities are 6 GHz, Wi-Fi 7 or native coordinated mesh. RTINGS also flags the Flint 2’s large, bulky physical design, so consider whether you have a practical place to position it. Its strengths are most compelling for buyers who will use its network controls or port mix, rather than those seeking the newest wireless generation or a compact mesh node.
