ESO had a sharp increase in Steam concurrency in April 2026, but its monthly Steam average had fallen by September. That is evidence of a temporary bump in one slice of the player base—not proof of a lasting, all-platform renaissance. Public figures cited here do not establish how many people currently play across ESO’s PC launchers and consoles.
What ESO’s player-count numbers measure
The figures reported by SteamCharts and Tracker Network are concurrent players on Steam. They do not include ESO players using other PC launchers or consoles. Tracker Network explicitly limits its count to Steam players. A monthly average of concurrent players is also not the number of unique people who played during that month, the number of active accounts, or the game’s total population.

SteamCharts’ ESO page and Tracker Network’s ESO page present slightly different Steam estimates. Keep each tracker’s numbers attributed to that source rather than merging them into a single figure.

Both trackers show a pronounced April rise followed by lower monthly averages by September. The comparison below keeps each source’s figures and month-over-month change together.

| Month | SteamCharts | Tracker Network |
|---|---|---|
| April 2026 average concurrent players | 11,890.92 | 11,867 |
| April change from March | +23.40% | +23.1% |
| September 2026 average concurrent players | 7,367.55 | 7,376 |
| September change from August | -17.10% | -16.8% |
These are calendar-month averages and month-over-month changes in the respective trackers’ Steam series, as reported in 2026. The modest differences between the sources reflect their separate presentations; they are not a basis for adding the counts together. The pattern supports a clear conclusion: April was a Steam concurrency bump, not a steady climb through September. Neither tracker identifies what caused the rise.
Does the all-time Steam peak show how many people play now?
No. SteamCharts lists an all-time concurrent peak of 49,061, while Tracker Network lists 49,142; neither surfaced page specifies the peak date. These are historical Steam peak-concurrency figures, not estimates of ESO’s current population or of its all-platform audience.

Is ESO having a renaissance?
The available numbers do not establish a broad or durable renaissance. They show a meaningful April increase in Steam concurrency and lower monthly averages by September. They do not reveal whether activity rose or fell across ESO’s other PC launchers and consoles, nor do they provide a current total of active players.
The studio has expressed an ambition to grow the game and described continued development, including plans for new experiences through 2027 and beyond. In its statement, “Continuing to Grow ESO With You,” the ESO team said it was not looking merely to maintain the game. That is evidence of the studio’s stated direction—not a measurement of player growth. The announcement is listed in ESO’s Steam Community announcements.

What can players reasonably take away?
- ESO had a notable increase in Steam average concurrency in April 2026.
- Both tracked Steam averages were substantially lower by September 2026.
- The figures describe concurrent Steam players, not unique monthly players or the whole cross-platform community.
- The public figures cited here do not settle ESO’s current total population across launchers and consoles.
- The studio says it plans to keep developing ESO and aims to grow it, but that intention should not be mistaken for verified population growth.
