It has no carbon plate. Independent reviewers describe it as a possible fit for short intervals, hill repeats and some short races, but report tradeoffs in cushioning, fit and stability that make it less suitable as an all-purpose daily trainer.
What is the ASICS METASLEEK designed for?
ASICS positions the METASLEEK for daily running, speed training and foundational work on foot use and movement. The company says its development drew on input from athletes and coaches associated with CHOJO CAMP in Kenya, with the aim of helping runners feel that they are running under their own power. That is the shoe’s design intent, not evidence that it changes running mechanics or improves performance.

On its US product page, ASICS calls it a speed-training shoe with a thin, stable, responsive feel. The brand describes the forefoot geometry as non-assisted and says: “The shoe’s engineered forefoot design uses non-assisted geometry to help you build natural propulsion, without relying on passive assistance from the shoe itself.” This is manufacturer product copy, not an independently demonstrated training outcome.

No. ASICS’s Japanese release explicitly says the METASLEEK does not use a carbon plate. The design is intended to emphasize ground feel and the runner’s own propulsion rather than plate-assisted stiffness. It should not be treated as a plated racing shoe simply because it is made for speed work.

What do independent reviewers say about the ride?
RTINGS: focused on short, fast sessions
RTINGS published its review on August 14, 2026, and updated it on September 10, 2026. It characterizes the METASLEEK as a highly specialized, low-stack speed-training shoe intended mainly for midfoot and forefoot running. RTINGS says it can work for track intervals and hill repeats and may suit short races. Its review also finds the limited cushioning can feel harsh over longer efforts, while the flexible ride is less snappy than a plated racer.
Those are RTINGS’ evaluations, not guaranteed results for every runner. They suggest treating the METASLEEK as a session-specific option rather than assuming it will replace a more cushioned everyday shoe.

Doctors of Running: flexible, but fit-sensitive
In a review dated September 24, 2026, Doctors of Running reviewer Andrea Myers describes a flexible platform, comfortable upper, versatility across paces and more ground feel than many high-stack shoes. The review also reports a narrow rearfoot and midfoot, a short fit, no guidance or stability features, and a high price. These are observations from one reviewer’s tested sample; foot shape and preferred fit can change how the shoe feels to another runner.

How do the published specifications compare?
Figures differ by source and measurement context. ASICS’s US listing gives manufacturer specifications, while RTINGS and Doctors of Running report measurements from their respective test samples. They should not be combined as if they came from one standardized measurement.

| Source and context | Weight | Heel stack | Heel-to-toe drop |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASICS United States product page, 2026 page capture; sizing basis for weight not stated in captured text | 129 g / 4.6 oz (manufacturer-listed) | Not stated | 8 mm (manufacturer-listed) |
| RTINGS review, published August 14 and updated September 10, 2026; test measurements | 126.1 g / 4.45 oz | 28.4 mm | 8.4 mm |
| Doctors of Running review, September 24, 2026; reviewer-reported men’s size 9 / women’s 10.5 sample | 125 g / 4.4 oz | 29 mm heel / 21 mm forefoot | 8 mm |
The US page’s listed 8 mm drop and the reviewers’ sample measurements are close, but the RTINGS figure is not identical. The weight figures likewise vary. Differences in source and measurement context matter, so use the number tied to the source and sample rather than treating one as a universal value.
Who is the METASLEEK likely to suit?
Based on the stated design and reviewer reports, it is most plausible for runners seeking a low-profile, flexible shoe for short speed sessions who welcome pronounced ground feel and do not need built-in guidance. The reviews raise reasons for caution if you prefer substantial cushioning, need stability features, have a narrow fit tolerance, or want one shoe for long daily mileage.

- Consider it for: short intervals, hill repeats and other fast sessions where a direct, flexible feel is appealing.
- Try it carefully if: your midfoot or rearfoot is sensitive to a narrow fit, or you are between sizes; Doctors of Running found its sample short and narrow in those areas.
- Look elsewhere if: your priority is a plated, highly snappy ride, generous cushioning for longer efforts, or structured stability. Those are not the qualities the cited reviews identify as strengths.
The available reviews describe design and individual reviewer experience. They do not establish that this model prevents injury, strengthens feet, improves mechanics or makes an individual runner faster.

How should you compare it with other speed-training shoes?
The available sources do not provide enough comparable testing of specific competitors to support a ranked alternative. Compare candidates against the sessions you actually run and the fit and ride you need:
- Short intervals and hills versus longer daily mileage
- Direct ground feel versus more cushioning
- Plate-assisted versus non-plate construction
- Your foot strike, foot shape and fit preferences
- Whether you need stability or guidance features
- Weight, stack and drop measured under comparable methods
- Current price and availability in your market
Is the ASICS METASLEEK worth it?
It may be worth considering if you want a purpose-built, unplated speed-training shoe and value a flexible, ground-connected feel. Its specialization is also its main compromise: the independent reviews flag limited cushioning, fit concerns and a lack of stability features, while the published prices place it in a premium range. Try it on if possible and judge it against your intended sessions, rather than expecting a shoe’s design claims to guarantee a training or race benefit.
