Yes—Teamwork can suit agencies that need client-facing project management connected to billable time, budgets, and workload planning. Its value depends on whether the plan you choose includes the financial and resourcing controls your agency needs, and whether staff and clients will use the workflows consistently. The vendor’s feature descriptions show a plausible operational fit; they do not independently establish better agency results.
Where Teamwork fits agency work
Teamwork’s agency workflow brings project delivery and client collaboration together with time and billing tasks. Its agency quick-start describes inviting staff and client users, creating projects from scratch or templates, organizing task lists and tasks, logging time manually or with a timer, marking time as billable, setting rates, creating invoices, and exporting invoices to accounting software. See the agency overview and agency quick-start guide for the vendor’s documented workflows.

The agency page also presents client portals, retainer management, creative approvals through Proofs, and project- and client-level profitability reporting as part of its offering. Those are vendor-described capabilities: check that the permissions, approvals, and billing handoffs match your own process before making them a deciding factor.

Client access is a distinct role
The quick-start guide distinguishes client users from standard paid users. It says client users can be invited without extra subscription cost and added to up to five projects belonging to their company. Because limits and permissions can change, verify the live documentation and role settings before budgeting around that allowance.

Financial visibility depends on clean time data
Teamwork’s client overview documents project health, activity, task counts, budget breakdown, profitability, and billable versus non-billable time at the client level. It defines total profit as billable total minus total cost; total cost is the cost rate multiplied by logged time, while billable total is the billable rate multiplied by logged time. That makes accurate, consistent time entry and rate setup essential: incomplete or incorrectly classified hours will weaken the usefulness of the resulting figures. The documentation mentions Grow and Scale for some client-overview widgets, but these are legacy plan names, not the current plan names.
Which plan includes the controls an agency may need?
Teamwork’s plan comparison, last modified September 29, 2026, lists Free Forever, Basics, Accelerate, Optimize, and Enterprise. It shows client users, client view, time tracking, and billable time across paid plans. More advanced operational features sit higher in the tiers:

| Accelerate and above | Time reminders, user rates, and workload planner |
| Optimize and Enterprise | Financial and fixed-fee budgets, project profitability, resource scheduling, skills management, billable targets, and profitability reporting |
These tiers matter if your agency needs to connect delivery with margin and capacity rather than only coordinate tasks. Confirm the live pricing page and plan comparison before choosing: names, entitlements, and prices may change. At the time reflected in the product page, Basics was displayed at €9.99 per user per month and Accelerate at €24.99 per user per month when billed yearly; Optimize and Enterprise were shown as custom pricing. These are vendor-displayed euro prices, not a guarantee for every region, tax treatment, seat count, or later date.
Which agency workflows are a stronger match?
Recurring client projects and retainers
Templates and repeatable task lists can help standardize delivery, while client access can give customers a defined place to participate. Retainer management is presented on the agency page, but assess how its available workflows map to your contract terms, renewal cadence, and reporting needs.

Billable work and fixed-fee projects
Time tracking and billable-time marking can connect work performed with billing records. If you need financial or fixed-fee budgets, profitability views, or billable targets, the current comparison places those features on Optimize and Enterprise. Teamwork will not by itself prevent scope creep or protect margin: the team still needs clear project budgets, reliable time entry, and a process for responding to overruns.
Teams balancing work across clients
Workload planning appears from Accelerate, while resource scheduling and skills management appear on Optimize and Enterprise. If your agency allocates specialists across many simultaneous projects, test whether those tools show capacity at the level managers need, including future work and absences. Do not assume a task view alone provides a complete staffing forecast.

Creative review and client approvals
Teamwork’s agency page includes Proofs for creative approvals. Agencies with review-heavy work should try a real approval cycle with representative file types, reviewers, feedback rounds, and sign-off rules, then verify that the selected plan and permissions support it.

How to decide whether it is right for your agency
- List the work to coordinate. Note active clients, recurring projects, retainers, fixed-fee engagements, and how often clients need direct access.
- Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves. Identify whether you need only task and time tracking, or also financial budgets, profitability reporting, workload planning, resource scheduling, creative proofing, and billable targets.
- Map each must-have to a current tier. Use the live plan comparison rather than assuming a feature shown on the agency page is available on the least expensive plan.
- Run a representative project through the workflow. Set up a project, invite a client user, log both billable and non-billable time, test rates and budget reporting, and follow an approval or invoice handoff if relevant.
- Check adoption and total cost. Have the people who will enter time, manage projects, and collaborate as clients use the trial workflow. Include the required plan and seats in the cost comparison, not just the entry price.
When comparing Teamwork with another project tool, use the same agency scenario and evaluate client permissions and limits, timer and manual entry, billable tagging, rate flexibility, approval workflows, invoice or accounting handoff, budget and retainer controls, cross-project resourcing, templates, proofing, integrations, and onboarding effort. Vendor-authored comparisons are positioning, not independent product testing.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—show
A 2023 report by Teamwork.com and Audience Audit surveyed 512 agency leaders; most respondents were in the United States, with others from the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and elsewhere. The report gives a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. It reported that 33% of agencies struggled to keep projects on time and budget, 38% overserved clients, and 82% of agencies using project-management software used its built-in time-tracking functionality. These are self-reported findings from that dated, vendor-published report—not current universal rates or evidence that Teamwork solves those problems. Read the 2023 agency report.
Teamwork’s Agency 2.0 case study includes a positive customer testimonial from Senior Account Manager Haley Sedam, who called the service intuitive for internal users and clients. This is one vendor-published customer account, not independent comparative testing or proof that other agencies will see the same outcome. Feature and plan pages likewise document the vendor’s offering rather than independently verified usability or return on investment.
