Sterlite Technologies (STL; NSE: STLTECH) has a credible growth story, especially in AI data-centre connectivity, and reported a record order book in Q1 FY27. But the available results do not establish that its shares will become a multibagger. That depends on sustained earnings and cash-flow growth, successful order execution, limited dilution and a valuation that still leaves room for substantial upside.
What do STL’s latest results show?
In its results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, STL reported revenue of ₹1,910 crore, EBITDA of ₹397 crore and profit after tax (PAT) of ₹197 crore. The company reported year-on-year growth of about 87% in revenue and 184% in EBITDA, an EBITDA margin of 20.8%, and an open order book of ₹18,618 crore. These are company-reported figures for one quarter, not evidence by themselves of a sustainable annual run rate.

The preceding full-year figures show why it is important to test whether that quarterly margin can last:
| Reporting period | Revenue | EBITDA | EBITDA margin | Open order book |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FY26, full year | ₹4,745 crore | ₹628 crore | About 13.2% | ₹7,309 crore at year-end |
| Q1 FY27, quarter ended June 30, 2026 | ₹1,910 crore | ₹397 crore | 20.8% | ₹18,618 crore at quarter-end |
STL reported FY25 revenue of ₹3,996 crore and EBITDA of ₹452 crore. It completed the demerger of its Global Services business, which now operates as Invenia under STL Networks Limited, effective March 31, 2025. The FY25 release presents that business as discontinued operations for the periods shown. Comparisons across the demerger should therefore use continuing-operations figures consistently, rather than combine unlike reporting bases.

What is the growth case?
AI data-centre connectivity
STL says its portfolio serves data-centre and cloud companies, telecom operators, internet service providers and large enterprises. It includes optical fibre, optical cable and optical connectivity products, as well as the Neuralis data-centre connectivity suite. The company describes itself as a global supplier, with manufacturing in North America, Europe and Asia and deliveries to more than 100 countries.
Large orders and a bigger backlog
In its Q1 FY27 release, STL cited a multi-year US$1.11 billion (₹10,000+ crore) contract for optical connectivity products used in next-generation AI data centres, along with multiple Neuralis hyperscaler orders worth more than US$100 million. It also cited a long-haul dark-fibre, high-density micro-cable order. These wins make the opportunity tangible, but an order announcement does not establish the timing of delivery, revenue recognition, profitability or customer payment.

- Comes with secure packaging
- Easy to read text
- It can be a gift option
STL reported that FY26 order intake rose about 110% over FY25. The open order book then increased from ₹7,309 crore at FY26 year-end to ₹18,618 crore at the end of Q1 FY27. A larger book can improve visibility, but it also raises the execution burden. The company’s cited releases do not quantify customer concentration, cancellation terms or the precise revenue-recognition schedule for these orders.
Can STL sustain its recent growth and margins?
Separate a strong quarter from a durable trend
STL attributed Q1 FY27’s margin strength to improved product mix, operating leverage and a higher contribution from data-centre business. Its 20.8% quarterly EBITDA margin was well above the approximately 13.2% reported for FY26. Investors need subsequent quarters to show whether the mix and utilization gains persist as production and deliveries scale; one quarter cannot establish a normalized margin.
Track cash generation as well as reported profit
EBITDA and PAT do not show how much cash is available after working-capital needs and capital expenditure. The reviewed company results do not establish whether the recent growth is converting into durable operating cash flow or free cash flow. In later filings, compare operating cash flow with EBITDA and PAT, and assess free cash flow after capital expenditure. A growing order book is less valuable to shareholders if it requires substantial working capital or investment without a corresponding return.
Follow order conversion and business mix
Monitor order intake and changes in the order book alongside recognized revenue. Look for disclosed delays, cancellations, customer and geographic mix, and the contribution of data-centre work relative to other business. STL sells into infrastructure markets where customer capital spending and project schedules matter, but the cited releases do not quantify its sensitivity to those factors, competitive pricing or foreign-exchange movements.
Rank #4
What are the main risks for shareholders?
Execution and customer concentration
Large contracts can support growth, but fulfillment depends on capacity, delivery schedules and customer acceptance. The releases identify hyperscaler and telecom orders without quantifying customer concentration or contract protections. Treat the order book as potential future business, not guaranteed revenue or profit.
Margin normalization
If the unusually high Q1 FY27 margin reflects a favorable mix or utilization level that does not persist, earnings growth could fall short even if revenue rises. Compare margins over several quarters and read management’s explanation of mix and operating leverage rather than assuming the Q1 level is the new baseline.
Best Value
Equity issuance and per-share growth
STL said a ₹1,500 crore qualified institutional placement (QIP) helped it become net-debt-free and fund its next growth phase. Lower debt can reduce financing risk, but issuing shares increases the share count. Investors should check the final issued share count and QIP terms in official filings, then evaluate earnings and cash flow per share—not only company-level revenue or profit growth.
Reporting comparability and infrastructure cycles
The Global Services demerger affects comparisons with earlier periods, while demand across telecom and data-centre infrastructure can depend on customer investment cycles. Use consistent continuing-operations figures and watch for evidence about regional and customer exposure; the cited releases do not quantify STL’s sensitivity to individual markets or spending cycles.

- Revenue and EBITDA: Compare year-on-year growth across successive quarters and full years, not just one strong quarter or sequential changes.
- EBITDA margin: Track whether improvement persists and assess the company’s explanations of product mix, utilization and operating leverage.
- Order-book conversion: Follow new orders, cancellations or delays if disclosed, changes in the backlog, and conversion into recognized revenue.
- Cash-flow conversion: Compare operating cash flow with EBITDA and PAT, then account for working capital and capital expenditure to assess free cash flow.
- Balance sheet and share count: Track net debt or net cash, finance costs, the final share count after the QIP and earnings growth per share.
- Customer and geographic exposure: Use disclosures on customer mix, regional mix and project-driven versus recurring business where available.
- Valuation: Use a current market capitalization and a clearly identified earnings or cash-flow basis. No current share price, market capitalization or valuation multiple is established by the cited company results.
How should you judge whether STL could be a multibagger?
“Multibagger” is an informal label for a share that multiplies an investor’s original capital; it is not a company performance measure. A promising industry, a large order book or rapid growth in one quarter cannot answer whether the stock can do that. The purchase valuation matters: even a business that grows can deliver disappointing shareholder returns if too much future growth is already reflected in its price.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSTL’s Q1 FY27 release presents a stronger operating picture and substantial AI data-centre orders, but the available figures do not establish normalized margins, future cash conversion or a current valuation. A sound assessment therefore requires both sides of the case: evidence that orders are becoming profitable cash flow and per-share earnings, and a market price that does not already assume the best outcome.
