Short answer: Sober is an unofficial, closed-source, experimental way to run the Android version of Roblox on Linux. Its developers say ordinary intended use is very rarely moderated, but Roblox does not guarantee support or account safety: it may block Sober clients from its services, and integrity checks can prevent access to individual experiences. The project also documents privacy settings, but its closed source and the available documentation do not provide an independent privacy audit.
What Sober is—and what “safe” means here
Sober runs the Android Roblox client in a specialized Linux runtime that bridges Android and Linux; it is not the Windows Roblox client running through Wine. The project calls itself unofficial research software, and Flathub says Sober is not affiliated with Roblox. Sober’s site describes it as experimental and warns it may be discontinued. “Safe” therefore has several separate meanings: whether Roblox supports the client, whether your account could face consequences, whether the app’s data practices are independently verifiable, and whether a particular experience will let you join. The available evidence does not establish a guarantee on any of these fronts.

Sober’s FAQ says users are very rarely moderated when using it as intended. That is the maintainers’ characterization, not a Roblox guarantee or a verified account-ban rate. The same FAQ says Roblox may prevent Sober clients from using its services at any time. A client block could mean losing access through Sober even if your account itself is not moderated; the documentation does not promise that either outcome will not happen. Sober FAQ

If losing access to a valuable or sensitive account would be especially costly, consider that uncertainty before signing in through an unsupported client. Do not treat “rarely moderated” as a promise that using Sober cannot affect your account.
Can anti-cheat or integrity checks stop a game from working?
Yes. Sober’s troubleshooting documentation describes Android Remote Attestation (ARA) checks that can block access to individual experiences. The project listed affected experiences as having ARA disabled as of August 20, 2026, but warns that status can change without notice. That dated status is not a permanent compatibility list. The project warns that trying to bypass these checks could risk violating Roblox or Google terms and could put Sober at risk of a Roblox ban. Do not attempt to circumvent an attestation check; if an experience refuses to launch or join, treat it as a compatibility limitation and check the project’s current troubleshooting information.

What does Sober disclose about privacy?
Flathub says Sober disables ads and telemetry by default. The project’s configuration reference also documents optional Discord Rich Presence settings, both off by default: one can share the current game with Discord, and another can allow contacts to join from a profile. An experimental option can use libsecret to store the session cookie; it is disabled by default. Flathub listing · Sober configuration reference

Should you use Sober?
Sober may be an option for someone who accepts an experimental, unsupported client and the possibility of changing game compatibility. Avoid it if you need Roblox-supported software, a firm assurance about account consequences, independently audited privacy, or reliable access to every experience. The documented distribution route is Flathub; at the time the listing was checked on October 5, 2026, it showed Sober 1.8.0 and Roblox 2.741.1061. Those version numbers are time-specific, not evergreen guidance. Flathub listing
