What should you expect from Waydroid?
Waydroid is an Android-environment approach, rather than a Linux-native Roblox desktop client. VinegarHQ lists it as a way to use Roblox’s mobile version on x86 Linux. That distinction matters: a mobile build may not include desktop-only experiences, and compatibility can vary with the Linux system and its configuration. The available documentation does not establish a universal compatibility list or guarantee.

When does a Windows virtual machine make sense?
A Windows VM runs Roblox in a Windows guest instead of relying on the Android build. It may be worth considering when you need the Windows version, but it adds another operating system and virtualization configuration to maintain. VinegarHQ notes GPU passthrough and VM configuration as relevant considerations; the existence of this route is not evidence that a particular Linux machine can run Roblox smoothly or reliably in a VM.

Does Vinegar run Roblox Player?
No. Vinegar is documented as a bootstrapper for Roblox Studio on Linux, not as an alternative for playing Roblox Player. Its requirements apply to Studio through Vinegar and should not be confused with the requirements for Sober or Cordial.
Vinegar’s Studio installation page lists an x86-64/AMD64 processor, 3 GB RAM, and graphics capable of OpenGL 4.4 as baseline requirements; it also gives higher recommendations. Check the Vinegar installation documentation for the current requirements and installation details.

How do Sober’s requirements compare?
Sober remains one documented route for Roblox Player, but it is experimental and unofficial. Its publisher says Roblox does not support it and warns that it may be discontinued. Sober’s current installation documentation lists these system requirements:

The Sober documentation recommends SSE4.2 and Vulkan 1.1. It says SSE4.2 can be emulated on a processor that supports only SSE4.1, with a performance impact. Check the Sober project documentation for the current requirements before installing; compatibility details can change.
How to choose a route
- Try Cordial if you want a dedicated Linux runtime and are comfortable with experimental software and project-reported feature support.
- Consider Waydroid if the mobile version meets your needs and your experience is not desktop-only.
- Consider a Windows VM if you need the Windows client and are prepared for virtualization setup and possible GPU configuration work.
- Use Vinegar for Studio, not Player.
