Samsung’s The Frame is popular as a design idea: when you are not watching TV, Art Mode, a slim wall mount, a matte screen and optional interchangeable bezels help it resemble framed artwork. That can make it a good fit for a living space where a conventional black screen feels out of place. It is not automatically the best-value television, though: independent testing says similarly priced conventional TVs can deliver better picture quality. There is no verified Frame-specific sales or market-share figure to quantify how popular it is.
Why is The Frame TV popular?
The appeal is the way the television behaves when it is idle. The Frame offers a dedicated Art Mode, replaceable bezel options and a slim wall mount; its matte finish is intended to reduce reflections and make displayed art feel less like a glowing screen. RTINGS independently confirms those core design features. Samsung’s 2026 US announcement also describes Glare Free technology on both the standard Frame and Frame Pro.

Those features address a familiar compromise: a television can dominate a room even when it is turned off. The Frame is designed to make that screen part of the room’s decor instead. Samsung’s 2026 US announcement says its Art Store offers more than 5,000 works from over 800 artists. RTINGS’ review of the 2026 US model describes 30 curated works rotating monthly, with a subscription for additional art and the option to upload photos by USB. These are different source- and date-specific descriptions of the offering; check current catalog availability and subscription terms for your region.

The available figures do not establish how many Frame TVs have sold or what share of the TV market they represent. Samsung’s 2025 Third Quarter Interim Report puts its overall global TV market share at about 28% at the end of 2024 and reports 19 consecutive years as the global TV sales leader; neither figure measures The Frame specifically.

Is Samsung The Frame worth it?
It may be worth paying extra if an art-display mode and a television that blends into your room are priorities. If the main goal is the best picture quality for the money, a conventional television is likely a stronger value. RTINGS says a similarly priced standard-design TV can provide significantly better picture quality, and characterizes the 2026 standard Frame as okay overall despite its strong glare reduction.
The matte screen is a genuine design benefit, especially in a bright room, but it does not guarantee better viewing for every kind of content. CHOICE notes that matte finishes on art TVs can involve picture-quality tradeoffs for movies, shows, games and sports. Decide based on what you watch and how much the idle-screen appearance matters, not on the art feature alone.

Choose The Frame if
- You want a TV to look more like wall art when it is not in use.
- Reducing visible reflections in a bright room is a major priority.
- You value Art Mode and customization enough to accept weaker picture quality per dollar.
Look at conventional TVs if
- Movies, sports or games matter more than the display’s appearance when idle.
- You want to maximize picture performance for a given budget.
- You do not expect to use Art Mode or pay for additional artwork access.
Standard Frame and Frame Pro are different TVs
Do not assume Frame Pro features come with every Frame. Samsung’s April 2026 US announcement distinguishes the models: Frame Pro has a Neo QLED 4K display and a Wireless One Connect box, while the standard Frame has built-in connections. Samsung says the Pro box can connect devices up to 30 feet away and adds an eARC-capable Micro HDMI port.
Samsung says both 2026 models include Glare Free technology and Motion Xcelerator 144Hz. It also lists DLG 240Hz when connected to a compatible PC. In RTINGS’ 2026 US review, the standard Frame’s matte coating reduces daytime glare very effectively, but the reviewer says the Frame Pro is considerably brighter. RTINGS also finds the 2026 Hisense CanvasTV a little better overall and brighter than the standard Frame. Those are reviewer judgments for the tested models, not guarantees for every room or viewer.

What to check before buying
- Picture performance: Compare brightness and contrast for the movies, games and sports you actually watch; art-first design does not settle those questions.
- Reflection handling: A matte screen can help with daytime glare, but consider the tradeoff for regular TV viewing.
- Art access: Check which artwork is included, whether additional catalog access requires a subscription and whether USB photo uploads meet your needs.
- Mount and installation: Samsung says the standard 2026 Frame includes a Slim Fit Wall Mount. Check what is included with the exact model and whether your wall or installation requires anything extra.
- Bezel fit: Replacement bezels are an optional customization; verify compatibility with the particular model year and screen size.
- Cable setup: The standard Frame uses built-in connections; Frame Pro’s Wireless One Connect box changes where connected devices can be placed, but it is a distinct model.
- Price: Compare current local prices, not historical launch pricing, and weigh the design premium against conventional TVs’ picture performance.

| Standard Frame | 55-inch | $1,299 |

Bottom line: a design-led choice, not a universal TV upgrade
The Frame stands out because it treats the idle television as part of the room: art display, a matte screen, a slim mount and bezel customization form its distinctive proposition. That design can justify the premium for someone who will use those features. For viewers focused chiefly on picture quality per dollar, conventional TVs remain the more compelling place to look. Its popularity is best understood as a visible design niche, not a sales trend backed by Frame-specific market data.
