It can be safe when you know what kind of connection you are allowing, trust the person and app involved, and limit access to what is needed. “Remote desktop” can mean Samsung DeX projecting to a display, sharing the tablet’s screen, letting someone control the tablet, or using the tablet to control another computer. Those are different workflows with different controls; none should be treated as automatically safe.
First, identify what “remote desktop” means
Before accepting a prompt or sharing a code, establish what the session will do. Samsung’s DeX instructions describe connecting a Galaxy tablet to a TV or monitor for a desktop-style display experience; Android’s MediaProjection documentation concerns screen capture and sharing. A remote-support app may request further access, while another tool may let the tablet control a separate computer. Samsung’s DeX guidance and Android’s screen-capture documentation do not make these activities interchangeable.

- DeX projection: the tablet connects to a compatible display. The display must accept the connection, and the tablet may ask you to allow permissions.
- Screen sharing: another person can see the content within the scope you share. Whether that is one app or the whole screen depends on Android version and app support.
- Remote support or control: the app may request permissions beyond screen sharing, including accessibility access. Review what it can see or do before enabling it.
- Controlling another computer: the tablet is the viewer or controller; this is not the same as giving someone access to the tablet.
If the request was unexpected, or you cannot explain what is being shared and how to stop it, do not start the session. A consent prompt confirms a system permission decision; it does not verify the identity or good intent of the person asking.

What Android’s screen-sharing prompt does—and does not—mean
Android says apps that need access to the device’s screen should use MediaProjection, which displays a prompt asking the user for consent. Android 14 QPR2 added an option to share or record a single app window instead of the entire device screen. In that mode, system UI such as notifications is excluded from the shared display. Availability depends on the tablet’s Android version and the app’s implementation. Android documents the consent model; its Android 14 feature notes describe app-window sharing.

Read the prompt and make sure its scope matches the help you need. Sharing one app can reduce incidental exposure outside that window, but it cannot judge whether information inside the app is sensitive. Close or hide account recovery screens, payment details, private messages, and one-time codes before sharing when possible. Keep the tablet in view and stop the session if the other person asks for more access than the task requires.
Why accessibility permission deserves extra scrutiny
Android accessibility services are designed to assist people with disabilities. Depending on their configuration, they can inspect screen content and interact with apps on a user’s behalf. Android requires the system-protected BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE permission so only the system can bind to such a service, but that mechanism does not establish that a particular app or its publisher is trustworthy. If a remote-support app asks you to enable an accessibility service, verify the publisher and why the service is needed. Enable it only for a session you initiated with a provider you intended to contact, and turn it off afterward if it is no longer needed. Do not infer that an app is safe merely because it uses Android’s standard service mechanism.
Check the tablet’s lock, accounts, and app permissions
Samsung’s Security and privacy controls bring together settings for the lock screen, account security, lost-device protection, app security, updates, and permissions. The Permission manager lets you review apps’ access to sensitive device data. Exact names and available options vary across Galaxy models, software versions, and carriers, so use the labels shown on your tablet. Samsung’s Security and privacy guide describes these controls.

- Use a screen lock and protect the Samsung and Google accounts used on the tablet.
- Review the remote-support app’s publisher and requested permissions before granting them.
- Check the Permission manager after a session and revoke access you no longer need.
- Keep the tablet’s software current using the update controls available on your device.
Samsung says DeX uses the same lock as the tablet. You can lock DeX and unlock it with the security credentials or biometric method configured on the device. Samsung also notes that its NotePaper and Privacy Screen products for tablets do not support biometric authentication. A privacy accessory may affect nearby viewing, but it is not a remote-access safeguard. Samsung’s DeX lock instructions cover locking and unlocking.
Connect to a display with wireless DeX
For wireless DeX on a Galaxy tablet, Samsung’s current US support instructions give this path: Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX > Connect wirelessly. Select a TV or smart monitor, tap Start now, accept the display’s Allow prompt, and grant any required permissions on the tablet. Use a display you recognize. To disconnect, Samsung documents using Quick settings or Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX, depending on the connection type. Menu labels can differ on your tablet.

Before you start
- Identify whether this is DeX projection, screen sharing, remote control of the tablet, or access to another computer.
- Start sessions only with a support provider you independently intended to contact; do not accept unexpected requests or share a code or prompt you did not initiate.
- Check the app publisher and why it requests each permission, especially accessibility access.
- For wireless DeX, choose a display you recognize and review the permission prompts.
While it is running
- Check what the consent prompt says is being shared. Use app-window sharing if your Android version and app support it and that scope suits the task.
- Keep sensitive information out of the shared area where possible.
- Keep the tablet in view and end the session if the helper asks for unnecessary access.
When you finish
- Stop screen sharing or disconnect DeX using the controls available for that connection.
- Disable temporary accessibility access and review app permissions in Permission manager.
- Lock the tablet. If something unexpected occurred, review the relevant account activity.
How to compare remote-help options
The official Android and Samsung materials explain platform controls and DeX behavior, but they do not certify every third-party app or compare named services’ connection security. Before choosing a tool, check:

- Who initiates the session, and whether you can end it at any time.
- Whether it shares one app or the full screen.
- Whether it requests accessibility, device-management, or other sensitive permissions—and why.
- Whether it supports your tablet and software version.
- How it identifies the helper and protects the connection. Confirm these claims with the service provider; the platform documentation does not establish them for a particular app.
- Whether you need screen viewing, control of the tablet, DeX projection, or access to another computer.
There is no universal safe verdict for every Galaxy tablet configuration, and the cited official materials do not quantify remote-access incident risk specifically for Samsung tablets. Judge the actual app, permissions, session scope, and circumstances rather than relying on the label “remote desktop.”
