As of October 7, 2026, Nintendo lists the game for release on October 8—so it is not yet available on Switch 2 at the time of writing. If you already own the older Switch Cloud version, check the eligible digital-owner discount before paying full price.
What you get in HD 2.8
This is a three-part collection, but only two parts are playable games. The third is a movie, so the bundle is not three full games.

| KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage – | A short playable episode following Aqua after Birth by Sleep. | KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover | An HD movie about the Foretellers and early series history, not another playable game. |
Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing gives the release date as October 8, 2026: Nintendo UK’s product page. SQUARE ENIX’s descriptions of the contents are on its HD 2.8 page.
Who is most likely to find it worthwhile?
Buy it if these are the experiences you want
- You want to play Dream Drop Distance HD on Switch 2.
- You are interested in the shorter, story-bridging 0.2 episode, especially Aqua’s part of the story.
- You are happy to watch Back Cover as a movie rather than expecting another game.
Wait if value depends on price or performance
A verified regional Switch 2 price and independent performance measurements—such as frame rate, image quality, and load times—are not established here. If those factors determine whether the collection is worth your money, wait until the game is released and check your local eShop price alongside independent post-release testing.

Check ownership, format, and bundle overlap before buying
SQUARE ENIX lists both digital and physical purchase paths for HD 2.8 on Switch 2. It also lists KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], which includes HD 2.8 alongside HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind. Nintendo likewise notes that HD 2.8 is included in bundles. If you are considering the larger collection, check its contents against games you already own so you do not pay for duplicate content. See the SQUARE ENIX collection listing.
SQUARE ENIX says eligible owners of the corresponding Switch Cloud versions can get 50% off the Switch 2 digital version. The physical collection bundle is excluded. The applicable price and eligibility are region-dependent, so confirm the offer displayed in your eShop before purchasing. The offer details are in SQUARE ENIX’s Cloud-version transition notice.

How the Switch 2 version compares with the old Switch Cloud version
The previous Nintendo Switch edition is a Cloud Version and requires an internet connection to play, according to Nintendo’s product page. SQUARE ENIX says Cloud editions stopped being sold on June 9, 2026, and are scheduled to remain playable until June 9, 2027. It also says eligible owners can transfer Cloud save data to the Switch 2 digital version. The new version is described by SQUARE ENIX as a digital downloadable version; consult its transition notice for ownership and transfer terms.

A practical buying decision
- Decide whether the contents fit. You get one remastered game, one short playable episode, and one movie—not three full games.
- Check what you already own. Compare standalone HD 2.8 with the contents of Collection [I~III], and check whether your Cloud-version ownership qualifies for the digital discount.
- Compare the price shown for your region. The 50% offer applies to eligible corresponding digital versions, not the physical collection bundle; verify the displayed offer in eShop.
- Wait for test results if performance matters to you. Do not treat Switch 2 frame rate, image quality, or load times as established before independent post-release testing.
