Usually, yes—for one encoder feed from a Hetzner EU Cloud server, the listed monthly traffic allowance is enough for common YouTube bitrates. Hetzner lists 20 TB/month for EU CX, CPX and CAX Cloud servers; a sustained 24 Mbps feed uses an estimated 7.78 TB over 30 days. Singapore allowances vary more sharply by plan and can be too low. In either region, a traffic quota does not guarantee a dependable route from the server to YouTube: test the actual server and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
What “bandwidth” means for a 24/7 stream
For this question, bandwidth has two separate meanings:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Monthly traffic allowance: how much outgoing data the server may send before overage charges apply. Hetzner’s Cloud traffic table varies by server family and location.
- Live delivery capacity: whether the server can sustain the encoder’s upload to YouTube with acceptable stability, latency and packet loss. A monthly quota does not establish this.
For a single encoder feed, the server sends one copy of the stream to YouTube. YouTube transcodes that live feed into formats for viewers, so the server’s egress estimate is based on the encoder bitrate—not the combined viewing hours of the audience. That changes if the server also relays to other destinations or serves video directly to viewers. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

The estimates below assume an uninterrupted average bitrate for a 30-day month. They use decimal data units (1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes) and exclude protocol overhead, reconnects and any other server egress. The calculation is bitrate × 1,000,000 bits/second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8 bits/byte, or approximately 0.324 TB per month for each sustained 1 Mbps.

| Sustained encoder bitrate | Estimated egress in 30 days | Against 20 TB EU allowance |
|---|---|---|
| 10 Mbps | 3.24 TB | Fits with substantial headroom for this feed alone |
| 24 Mbps | 7.78 TB | Fits for this feed alone |
| 50 Mbps | 16.20 TB | Fits mathematically for this feed alone, with less headroom |
YouTube’s cited H.264 recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 24 Mbps for 1440p60. The 50 Mbps row is a planning example, not a recommendation for a specific resolution. Your real usage can be higher if the average bitrate exceeds the target, the server has other outgoing traffic, or the billing period covers more than 30 days.
Does the Hetzner allowance cover the stream in each region?
Hetzner’s Cloud traffic table lists monthly outgoing traffic allowances by server family and location. It says incoming and internal traffic are not counted.

| Server family and location | Listed monthly allowance | What it means for this use |
|---|---|---|
| CX, CPX and CAX, EU | 20 TB | Enough on quota for the 10 Mbps and 24 Mbps examples, and mathematically enough for 50 Mbps from this feed alone |
| CX, CPX and CAX, Singapore | 0.5–5 TB, depending on plan | 3.24 TB for 10 Mbps exceeds the low end; 7.78 TB for 24 Mbps exceeds the listed maximum |
| CCX, EU | 20–60 TB, depending on plan | Allowance varies by plan; check the specific server |
| CCX, US or Singapore | 1–8 TB, depending on plan | Allowance varies by location and plan; 24 Mbps at 7.78 TB is near the top of this range |
| US, CX, CPX and CAX | 1–5 TB, depending on plan | Allowance varies by plan; compare the exact allowance with the bitrate estimate |
For a 24 Mbps feed, Singapore’s 0.5–5 TB range for CX, CPX and CAX is not enough on quota; some CCX Singapore plans list up to 8 TB, which is close to the estimate before overhead or other egress. For a 10 Mbps feed, the 3.24 TB estimate falls within the 0.5–5 TB range, so the exact plan matters. Check the current table for the specific location and plan before ordering.
Will the server’s connection from India deliver reliably?
Hetzner describes data-center parks in Nuremberg, Falkenstein and Helsinki and the connections between them on its infrastructure page. Its peering policy describes connectivity through exchanges, private peering where appropriate and transit providers; it also notes that destination-side peering or available capacity can affect performance. These general descriptions do not establish latency, packet loss, route stability or sustained throughput from a particular Hetzner server to YouTube ingest from India.

Before relying on a server for a continuous broadcast, run a test stream from the actual server and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators. Use representative motion and audio rather than a static test image alone. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream. During the event, monitor the stream health and review messages.”
A practical validation checklist
- Choose the exact server location and plan you intend to keep, then confirm its traffic allowance.
- Send a test at the intended resolution, frame rate and bitrate to the YouTube ingest endpoint you plan to use.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health messages during the test and look for dropped frames, interruptions or bitrate instability.
- Repeat under conditions representative of your planned content and operating period. A short successful test is useful evidence, not a guarantee of uninterrupted future delivery.
What can trigger extra traffic charges?
Hetzner says Cloud billing counts outgoing traffic; incoming and internal traffic are free. Its billing FAQ says overage is rounded up in 100 MB blocks. Usage notifications are sent at 75% and 100%, but they are warnings, not caps that stop traffic or prevent additional billing. Cloud servers are billed while they exist, even when powered off, so stopping the encoder does not by itself stop the server charge. See Hetzner’s traffic FAQ.

Keep the server’s other egress in the estimate: relays, downloads or any service that sends video to viewers can add traffic beyond the single YouTube ingest feed. Allowance and server price are separate considerations. Hetzner’s price adjustment page says updated prices applied to new orders and Cloud instance rescales starting 15 June 2026, and lists prices by server type and location excluding VAT. A meaningful base-price comparison therefore needs the exact family, location, currency and IPv4 configuration, using the current price table.
Keeping a 24/7 YouTube stream running
If you want to operate the stream on your own Hetzner server, you will need to configure and maintain an encoder or relay, use a YouTube stream key securely, keep the process running, and monitor both server egress and YouTube stream health. The bandwidth calculation answers only whether the traffic allowance may cover the feed; it does not set up the stream or guarantee the route.
