How to Fix Applitools Eyes Full-Page Screenshots in Chrome

When Eyes misses content below the Chrome viewport, verify full-page capture, find the actual scroll root, trigger lazy-loaded content, and check capture mode settings.

If Applitools Eyes captures only the visible part of a page in Chrome, first confirm that the checkpoint requests a full-page capture. If it does and content is still missing, check which element actually scrolls, load scroll-triggered content before the checkpoint, and try the capture mode that suits the page. These are several possible causes—not evidence of a universal Chrome defect. Exact APIs vary by SDK, so use the syntax for your integration and version.

1. Confirm the checkpoint requests a full-page capture

A viewport checkpoint captures the visible area; it does not automatically mean that Eyes will inspect the whole document. In the current Applitools Playwright integration example, the full-page option is fully: true on eyes.check(). See the Applitools Playwright integration documentation for the current example and API details.

await eyes.check('Full page', { fully: true });

This is Playwright-specific syntax. Do not copy it into Selenium, Cypress, WebdriverIO, Java, or another integration without checking that SDK’s documentation. If the checkpoint already requests full capture, continue through the checks below rather than changing Chrome settings at random.

2. Find the element that actually scrolls

Eyes generally attempts to scroll the document or body. Some applications instead put the main content in a nested scrolling panel; in that case, scrolling the document does not expose the content you expect. Applitools describes this issue in its guide to determining the scrollable element.

Check the page in Chrome DevTools

  1. Open the page and Chrome DevTools, then inspect the content that is missing from the screenshot.
  2. Look for an ancestor element with a constrained height and scrolling behavior, such as overflow: auto or overflow: scroll.
  3. In the DevTools console, test whether changing that element’s scrollTop moves its content. If it does, that element—not the document—is the relevant scroll root.
  4. Configure that selector as the scroll root using the method supported by your Eyes SDK, then request a full-window capture. Applitools’ support example uses scrollRootElement(...); confirm the exact spelling and accepted selector type in the SDK and version you use.

Choose the container that scrolls the content you want to capture. Setting the wrong element as the root can leave the same content missing or change what gets scrolled.

3. Make lazy-loaded content appear before capture

Long pages may add sections or load images only as the user scrolls. If page height is measured before that content appears, the checkpoint may omit it. Applitools recommends scrolling through the page in screen-sized increments and returning to the top before capturing; jumping directly to the footer may not trigger every intermediate load. See its lazy-loading troubleshooting article.

  1. Scroll down one viewport at a time, allowing content and images to load at each position.
  2. Wait for the application’s own loading indicators or expected content to settle. Scrolling alone is not a universal readiness detector.
  3. Return to the top and run the full-page checkpoint.

Where practical, make the test wait for a meaningful application condition—such as a particular element becoming visible—rather than relying only on a fixed delay.

4. Choose a capture mode for fixed elements and stitching issues

Fixed-position headers and floating bars can appear repeatedly in a scroll-and-stitch capture. Applitools describes CSS capture mode as an alternative intended to avoid repeatedly capturing fixed-position elements; scroll mode uses standard JavaScript window scrolling. If the current mode produces stitching artifacts, try the other mode and compare the result. The details are in Applitools’ Visual AI settings documentation and its screenshotting support article.

Capture-mode availability and settings can depend on the Ultrafast Grid and license configuration. The Screenshot Capture Mode setting is displayed when Ultrafast Grid is disabled or the user does not have a license for it; your account may not show the same controls. Check the relevant SDK and test settings before treating a mode change as universally available.

5. If the target is a scrollable region, capture the region

If you need a scrolling panel rather than the whole browser window, make it the checkpoint’s region target and request full capture for that region. This differs from taking a full-window screenshot with a nested element configured as the scroll root. Applitools covers the region case in CheckRegion in scrollable elements. The documented fully() spelling is specific to its example; verify the equivalent option for your SDK.

Which fix should you try?

What you see What to check Important caveat
Only the initial viewport appears on a normally scrolling page Enable the integration’s full-page option on the checkpoint. Confirm the option in the documentation for your SDK and version.
The document does not scroll to the missing content Identify the nested scrolling element and configure it as the scroll root. The selector API is SDK-specific.
Images or sections are missing near the bottom Scroll through the page incrementally before the checkpoint. Add application-specific waits if content loads asynchronously.
Headers or floating bars repeat in the result Try CSS capture mode instead of scroll mode. Availability depends on SDK and account configuration.
Only a panel’s contents need a full capture Checkpoint the scrollable region and enable full capture for it. This is a region checkpoint, not necessarily a full-window capture.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • Still only the viewport? Verify that the full-capture option is attached to the checkpoint that is actually running, not a different test step.
  • Scroll root has no effect? Recheck the selector against the live page and confirm that changing its scrollTop moves the missing content.
  • Content appears inconsistently? Check whether the application loads it only on scroll, and wait for the relevant content before capture.
  • Repeated fixed elements or bad stitching? Try the other supported capture mode, if your configuration exposes it.
  • Code example does not match your project? Use the documentation for your language, SDK, and version; Playwright syntax is not interchangeable with other integrations.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a standalone screenshot rather than an Applitools visual checkpoint, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its capture flow accepts consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses report the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server includes screenshot, page-info, and PDF tools for AI agents.
