Google has not confirmed that it is removing Safety Signal from Pixel Watch 2 or Pixel Watch 3. Its current support documentation still describes the service and its eligibility rules, but does not announce a removal or a timeline. Safety Signal is a connectivity service for certain safety features—not the safety features themselves—and it is available only on eligible LTE models under specific conditions.
What Safety Signal does—and what Google has confirmed
Google describes Safety Signal as a Google Health Premium subscription service that provides LTE connectivity for safety features. It is intended for compatible LTE Pixel Watches without a carrier plan on the watch, so they can connect to selected functions when away from a phone. Google’s current Safety Signal support page documents the service, but does not say it is being discontinued.

That means the claim that Google could soon take the service away remains unconfirmed by the official documentation available. There is no confirmed removal date or stated reason for a change. A possible change should not be treated as a decision until Google announces one.
Who can use Safety Signal
Google lists Safety Signal for LTE-enabled Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. It is not available on Wi-Fi models, and having one of the eligible watches alone is not enough: Google Health Premium is required.
#1 Best Overall
- The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 45mm screen is twice as bright and 40% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]
- Maximize your performance with advanced running features; build custom run workouts and get real-time guidance and advanced form tracking[3]
- Enhance your run routine with Fitbit Premium; Google AI uses your goals, past runs, and readiness to power personalized run recommendations[3]
- Know what your body is ready for each day with readiness; it uses sleep, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability to show if you’re ready to take on a workout or prioritize recovery[3]
- Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]
- Supported regions: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Germany.
- Listed roaming: between the United States and Canada, and between the United Kingdom and Germany.
- Carrier exclusions: Google says the service is unavailable on new Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 purchased from AT&T or Verizon. It is also unavailable on previously purchased Pixel Watch 2 from those carriers if Safety Signal was not activated.
Google says Safety Signal provides connectivity for calls to and from emergency contacts, Safety Check, Emergency Sharing, Emergency SOS, and Fall Detection. Location must be enabled. Availability and reliability can depend on connectivity, country, language, and other factors; the service is not a guarantee that an emergency feature will work in every situation.
Safety Signal is not the same as the watch’s safety features
Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, Emergency Sharing, Safety Check, and emergency-contact dialing are distinct watch features. Safety Signal supplies a connection for selected functions when an eligible watch lacks its own carrier service; it does not create or replace those features. Google’s emergency feature guidance lists safety features separately from the connectivity conditions needed to use them.

- The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 41mm screen is twice as bright and 10% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]

- Enhance your run routine with Fitbit Premium; Google AI uses your goals, past runs, and readiness to power personalized run recommendations[3]

- Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]; and receive a daily target based on cardio load and readiness levels
Those functions have their own limits. For example, Google says Fall Detection may not detect every fall and is subject to age and regional restrictions. Safety Check and related emergency services may not be available or reliable in all countries or languages.

| Watch setup | Emergency-call connection | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi model | Nearby phone connected over Bluetooth | Google says the watch relies on its paired phone to call emergency services. |
| LTE model with active carrier service | Active LTE connection | The watch can call without the phone, provided it has an active LTE connection. |
| Eligible LTE Pixel Watch 2 or 3 without a carrier watch plan | Safety Signal, where available and active | Requires Google Health Premium and is subject to device, region, and purchase-channel conditions. |
Google notes that certain regions require an active LTE carrier plan or Safety Signal for emergency calls placed from a watch. If a watch already has carrier service, Google says that service supplies the connection when the watch is away from the phone; Safety Signal is for compatible LTE watches without a carrier watch line.

What Pixel Watch owners should do
If you use Safety Signal, check that your watch is an LTE Pixel Watch 2 or 3, that Google Health Premium is active, and that your region and purchase channel qualify. Keep location enabled for the supported safety functions. If you rely on emergency calling, understand which connection your specific setup depends on—a nearby paired phone, an active carrier LTE plan, or Safety Signal—and consult Google’s current Safety Signal eligibility information for any changes.
Google also announced Pixel Watch 2 features and specifications on its official product page, but the current Safety Signal eligibility and conditions are set out in its support documentation.
