The developer says screenshots are stored locally and that the extension does not collect or use user data. Those are useful disclosures, not independent verification. If a capture encounters iframe content, the extension may ask for broad website access; whether that is acceptable depends on the page, the permission prompt, and how you handle the resulting image.
This assessment concerns the official GoFullPage Chrome extension and its listing reviewed on October 3, 2026. The listing showed version 8.9, updated September 25, 2026; extension details can change.

What GoFullPage does—and what that means for privacy
GoFullPage captures a full page by scrolling through visible sections and assembling them into an image. Taking a screenshot is not, by itself, proof that all page content stays private in every configuration. A screenshot can contain anything visible on the page, including account details or personal information.
The developer’s permissions guide says the extension runs on the current tab when activated and does not execute during ordinary browsing unless you click it. It also describes a temporary ability to read and modify page data for scrolling and rendering. These are the developer’s descriptions of its behavior, not findings from an independent inspection.

What the permissions mean
Saving screenshots
The developer says screenshots are stored locally in the extension. It says the downloads permission is needed to save screenshots to your computer’s downloads folder. “Stored locally” describes the developer’s stated design; it is not an independently verified guarantee for every feature or version.
Capturing pages with iframes
When a page contains an iframe, GoFullPage may request optional tabs, webNavigation, and <all_urls> permissions. The developer says this access supports scrolling and rendering iframe content. Its permissions guide describes the access as a temporary ability to read and modify page data for that task.

Google’s Chrome Web Store guidance explains that permission warnings describe what an extension can do, not proof that it is doing something harmful. Access to all website data can allow an extension to read, request, or modify data on every page visited. Consider the scope carefully, especially when capturing a logged-in or sensitive page.
The developer says that if you decline the iframe-related permission, GoFullPage will not run on that page, but will still work on pages without iframes. The permission is requested when the need arises; the guide says it cannot be granted in advance from the Options page.

What is—and is not—verified
The Chrome Web Store listing contains the developer’s disclosure that it does not collect or use user data. The listing also says data is not sold outside approved use cases or used or transferred for unrelated purposes. These are developer disclosures. The available sources do not establish an independent audit, a current-build source-code review, a measurement of network traffic, or third-party verification of those statements.
Accordingly, the evidence does not prove that every screenshot always stays on-device under every feature and version. Nor does the permission prompt alone establish that GoFullPage misuses access. The practical conclusion is conditional: use the official extension, understand and accept the requested permissions, and avoid capturing material whose exposure would be unacceptable.

Install the official extension and assess the prompt
The developer announced on September 14, 2026 that the Chrome extension had returned to the store after a removal it attributed to a copyright issue, not a security concern. That explanation is the developer’s account. The same notice warned that unofficial copies had appeared while the official extension was unavailable.
- Open the official GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing, rather than downloading a copy from a third-party site.
- Before granting access, read the browser’s permission prompt. Downloads access supports saving the image; iframe capture may trigger broader website permissions.
- If the requested scope is not acceptable, decline it. According to the developer, the capture will not run on that iframe page, while pages without iframes remain available.
- After updates, check the listing and any new prompts again. The reviewed listing showed version 8.9, updated September 25, 2026; that status may change.
The developer maintains a separate beta listing. It describes beta builds as potentially receiving features before they are fully tested and rolled into the official extension. The developer recommended the official version for a more stable experience in its September 14, 2026 update; do not assume the beta and official release have identical behavior.

Reduce the risk when capturing private pages
- Do not capture pages containing passwords, financial or medical records, customer data, or other information you should not copy into an image unless you have a clear need and accept the risk.
- Review the permission prompt instead of treating a broad warning as either proof of danger or something to ignore.
- Before sharing an image, inspect it for visible account details and sensitive material.
- Handle the saved image as sensitive too. A file can be exposed if it is shared, synced, or accessed by someone else using the device; this is general file-handling advice, not a claim about GoFullPage’s data practices.
Or skip the browser setup
If you want a screenshot without installing a browser extension, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its capture options can accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses indicate the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs.
For example, with an API key, this cURL request captures the specified page:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webpSee the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and output formats. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does GoFullPage need permission to capture an iframe page?
It may request optional tabs, webNavigation, and all-sites access when a capture includes iframe content. The developer says declining that permission prevents capture on that page.
Is the GoFullPage beta the same as the official extension?
No. The developer describes beta as a separate channel that may receive features before they are fully tested and rolled into the official extension.
