How to Capture a Webpage with FireShot Behind a Login

Use FireShot’s entire-page mode on a page you can view after signing in. Learn which capture mode to choose, what to check if content is missing, and how to handle sensitive screenshots.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sign in to the website in your browser, open the page you’re allowed to view, then use FireShot’s Capture entire Page command to capture content below the visible screen. FireShot captures the page rendered in your browser session; it does not bypass a login or reveal content you cannot access.

Capture a logged-in page with FireShot

  1. Sign in normally. Open the site in the browser where FireShot is installed and log in with your account. Navigate to the page you want to capture and confirm its content is visible.
  2. Wait for the page to finish loading. If content appears after a delay, wait until it has rendered before capturing. This is especially useful for pages that load content as you scroll, though it does not guarantee every dynamic page will capture perfectly.
  3. Open FireShot. Use its browser toolbar button, the browser’s main menu, or the page context menu, depending on your installation and browser layout.
  4. Choose the capture scope. Select Capture entire Page (or the equivalent full-page command) for content extending below the viewport. Choose visible-area capture for only the current screen, or selected-area capture for a particular region.
  5. Review and save. Check that the result includes the intended content, then save it in an available image or PDF format. Available formats and editing features can vary by version, browser package, and free or Pro edition.

FireShot’s publisher manual distinguishes visible-area, selected-area, and entire-page capture. Its screens and command labels may differ from current versions, so check the installed extension if wording has changed.

Choose the right capture mode

Mode What it captures Use it when
Entire page / full page The page beyond the portion currently on screen You need a long page in one image or document.
Visible area Only the portion currently visible in the browser You need a quick record of the current screen.
Selected area A region you choose You need one section rather than the whole page.

Pages sometimes place content in a separate scrollable panel rather than the main page. A full-page command may capture the document but not every item inside that nested region; if only part is missing, try selecting the region if your FireShot version supports it.

FireShot versions and output

FireShot’s browser-store listings can reflect different releases. The Chrome Web Store listing observed for this article identified version 2.1.4.18, updated 2026-05-24, and described saving captures as PDF, PNG, or JPEG. Its upgrade description included additional capabilities such as scrollable-area capture and editing. The Chrome Web Store listing may change over time.

The Firefox Add-ons listing observed here displayed version 1.12.18, updated 2023-06-05, and noted that FireShot v2 was being rolled out to AMO while a newer package was available through the publisher’s site. Those are separate distribution snapshots, not evidence that the packages are identical. Check the relevant store and the version actually installed in your browser.

Protect account information in screenshots

A screenshot can expose names, account details, messages, or other information visible on the page. Save it somewhere appropriate and redact sensitive details before sharing. The Firefox listing says screenshots are stored locally and do not leave the computer, and that FireShot can work offline; it also lists the permission “Access your data for all websites.” The Chrome listing says the developer disclosed that it will not collect or use user data. These are store disclosures, not an independent security audit or a guarantee for every package and configuration. Review the permissions for your installed extension and its applicable privacy policy.

Troubleshoot a missing or failed capture

  • The page shows a sign-in screen: Confirm you are signed in to the intended account in the same browser session, then reopen the page you are allowed to view.
  • The screenshot is only one screen tall: Choose entire-page or full-page capture rather than visible-area capture.
  • Some content is missing: Wait for delayed content to appear and try again. Check whether the missing section has its own scrollbar; a selected-area capture may help if your installed version supports it.
  • A password-protected page fails to capture: Verify the page is visibly open after sign-in and retry. A FireShot support report describes one failed full-page capture on a password-protected page, but that report does not establish a general failure or a universal fix.
  • The command or output option differs: Check the installed version and the relevant browser-store listing. Labels and available formats can vary across releases and editions.

Use Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot if needed

If FireShot is unsuitable for a particular page, Firefox Developer Tools documents a built-in full-page capture. Enable the screenshot icon in Developer Tools settings, then use it for the current page. Mozilla also documents the Web Console command :screenshot --fullpage, which captures beyond the window bounds and saves a PNG by default. See Mozilla’s screenshot documentation for the current steps and details.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, without setting up a browser extension for each capture. Its cleanup options accept cookie or consent banners like a visitor and remove 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of the specified URL:
