What grayscale changes—and what it does not
Grayscale removes color from the display. It is different from Smart Invert and Classic Invert, which reverse colors: Smart Invert generally leaves images unchanged, while Classic Invert reverses all onscreen colors. Apple cautions that Color Filters can change how images and videos look.
Some display accessibility settings, including grayscale, might turn off True Tone. Night Shift removes color-filter effects except grayscale, so the screen can remain grayscale while Night Shift is active. Apple’s guide to brightness and color temperature
