A failed or delayed crypto withdrawal can be stuck at the exchange, waiting for blockchain confirmations, or already confirmed but not yet credited by the receiving wallet or exchange. Start with the withdrawal’s exact status and error, then check whether it has a transaction ID (TxID). A TxID lets you inspect the transfer on the explorer for the selected network; no TxID usually means the sending exchange is the place to investigate.
First, find out where the withdrawal stopped
- Open your exchange’s withdrawal history. Record the asset, amount, destination address, selected network, exact status and any displayed error. Use the exchange’s official, authenticated app or website.
- Look for a TxID. If one is shown, open it in a block explorer for the same network used for the withdrawal. If there is no TxID, do not assume network congestion is the cause; ask the sending exchange whether it broadcast the transaction.
- Check the explorer result. An unconfirmed transaction is still awaiting network confirmation. A confirmed transaction has progressed on-chain, so an uncredited transfer is generally a question for the receiving service.
- Verify the destination details. Confirm that the recipient supports the exact asset and network, and compare the address shown in the withdrawal record with the intended destination.
Status labels are not standardized across exchanges. For example, Kraken defines “Initiated” as internal checks, “Pending” as processing handed to its payment gateway, “Sending” as broadcast and waiting for confirmation, “Success” as one confirmation, and “Failed” as failed. These definitions apply to Kraken, not necessarily to another exchange. For a Kraken failure, its support page says: “To see the failure reason click on the withdrawal ID and check the ‘Error’ field.” Kraken’s withdrawal-status guide explains its labels.

What the status and TxID tell you
| What you see | What it can indicate | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Initiated, Pending, Processing or On hold; no TxID | The request may still be undergoing exchange-side checks or review. | Check account messages and requested security or identity actions. If the status is unexplained, contact the sending exchange. |
| Failed; no TxID | The exchange may not have broadcast the withdrawal, or it may have rejected it. | Open the withdrawal details, read the error and ask the sending exchange what happened. |
| TxID present; unconfirmed in the explorer | The transaction has been broadcast but is waiting for network confirmation. | Monitor the transaction and follow the exchange’s guidance for that asset and network. |
| TxID present; confirmed, but not credited | The transfer is confirmed on-chain, but the destination has not credited it or there may be a destination/network mismatch. | Check the recipient address and network, then contact the receiving wallet or exchange with the TxID. |
These are diagnostic patterns, not a universal status system. Kraken’s labels and Binance’s “Processing” or “Completed” wording may differ from the labels used by your exchange. Kraken and Binance describe their own withdrawal histories and statuses.

Why an exchange may not send the withdrawal yet
Account, security or compliance checks
An exchange can hold a request before any blockchain transaction exists. Check for account notifications, a requested identity step, or a security review. Kraken lists time-based holds and holds associated with recent password changes affecting new withdrawal addresses among reasons a customer may be unable to withdraw. A time-based hold may simply need to expire; do not assume support can override it. See Kraken’s explanation of withdrawal holds.

Funds are not available to withdraw
An open or pending order may be using funds, or the available balance in that currency may be insufficient. Check the exchange’s available balance and order status rather than only the total account balance. Kraken includes both pending orders and insufficient currency balance among possible withdrawal restrictions: withdrawal holds and reasons a withdrawal may be unavailable.
Exchange processing or a request still in progress
A pending label does not by itself prove that the blockchain is congested: it may describe a step inside the exchange or its payment gateway. Read the exact status and any exchange-specific guidance before deciding whether to wait or contact support. On Kraken, cancellation can be requested only while a withdrawal is Initiated or Pending, and a cancellation request is not guaranteed to succeed; consult the exchange’s current instructions before trying to cancel. Kraken’s status guide describes these stages.

Why a broadcast transaction may still be delayed
If the TxID opens on the correct network but the transaction is unconfirmed, it is in the network-confirmation stage. Timing varies with the asset, network conditions and congestion; a displayed estimate is not a guarantee. Binance says, “Due to possible network congestion, there might be a significant delay in processing your transaction.” Check the live explorer result and your exchange’s asset-specific instructions rather than treating any typical duration as a deadline. Binance’s withdrawal guidance explains how to check a withdrawal and what to do when it has not arrived.

Coinbase notes that network synchronization issues or transaction rejection can also leave a send pending. Its explanation is specific to its service and does not establish what caused a pending withdrawal on another platform. Coinbase’s pending-transaction guide provides its troubleshooting steps.

When a confirmed transfer has not arrived
First check that you are viewing the TxID on the network selected for the withdrawal. Then compare the destination address and confirm that the recipient supports both the asset and that network. A transaction can be confirmed on one network without being credited by a service that does not support that network or asset.
If the transaction is confirmed and the details appear correct, contact the receiving wallet or exchange—not just the sending exchange—and provide the TxID, asset, network and destination address. Binance directs users to the recipient platform when a withdrawal is confirmed but not credited. Coinbase likewise recommends checking the recipient address and network after a send completes. Binance’s guide and Coinbase’s crypto-send troubleshooting page cover those checks.

Do not assume a confirmed transfer can be reversed through the sender exchange. Verify addresses and networks before sending; recovery may not be possible if funds went to an unsupported destination or the wrong network.
When to contact the sending exchange
Contact the exchange that initiated the withdrawal if it shows Failed or On hold, if there is no TxID, or if its status remains unexplained. Include the withdrawal ID, asset, amount, network, timestamp and the exact displayed error. Ask whether the transaction was broadcast and what the status means. Do not send passwords, seed phrases, private keys or one-time authentication codes to support—or to anyone claiming they can recover the transfer.
Timing advice can be platform-specific. Binance’s support page says to contact support if a TxID has not appeared after six hours in the withdrawal case it describes. That is Binance guidance for that case, not a universal threshold for every exchange, asset or network. Use the current instructions for your exchange and account. Binance’s withdrawal guide gives its instructions.
If cancellation is available
Cancellation depends on the exchange and the withdrawal’s stage. Do not repeatedly submit new withdrawals while an earlier one is pending; check its status first to avoid sending twice. Kraken says a cancellation may be requested only at the Initiated or Pending stage, and it is not guaranteed. Other exchanges may use different rules, so follow their current support instructions. Kraken’s status guide describes its cancellation window.
