If you want an iPhone that unfolds into a tablet-sized screen, the iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable option—but its announced specifications are not yet backed by independent testing. It has the same 7.6-inch inner display size and peak outdoor brightness as the Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers a larger 8.0-inch inner screen and a triple rear-camera system. The Duo is also listed as heavier than the Fold8. Your best choice therefore depends on whether you value iOS and Apple’s foldable design, a larger screen, portability, or buying a product with a longer track record.
Apple announced the Duo on September 9, 2026. Preorders are scheduled to begin October 16, with general availability starting October 23, 2026. The specifications below are manufacturer claims or published comparison listings, not hands-on findings.

How do the displays compare?
Inner screen size and resolution
The Duo and Galaxy Z Fold8 are listed with matching 7.6-inch inner displays. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the largest of these three on the published figures, at 8.0 inches. Screen size alone does not establish which display is easier to read or better for multitasking: aspect ratio, app layout, and usable area also matter.
#1 Best Overall

9to5Mac lists the Duo’s inner resolution as 2670 × 1878 and the Fold8’s as 2448 × 1848. Apple describes both Duo displays as Super Retina XDR with ProMotion and Always On, and says they reach up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness. 9to5Mac lists the same peak brightness for the Fold8. These figures do not establish comparative color accuracy, reflection handling, or visibility in everyday conditions.
Outer screens and the fold crease
The Duo’s 5.4-inch outer display is slightly smaller by diagonal than the Fold8’s listed 5.5-inch cover screen. That difference is modest on paper; the shape and width of each screen may matter more when typing or using the phone closed. The cited sources do not provide a directly comparable outer-display measurement for the Pixel.
Apple says the Duo’s inner display has a nano-texture finish intended to reduce glare and crease visibility. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent assessment of how visible or noticeable the crease is from different angles or by touch. No matched crease test for these phones is established in the cited comparisons.

Which foldable is easier to carry?
On the published weight figures, the Duo is 53 g heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold8: 254 g versus 201 g. That is a substantial specification difference, but it does not by itself prove which phone feels more comfortable in a pocket or during extended use.
9to5Mac lists the Duo’s folded dimensions as 84.1 × 117.8 × 11.3 mm and the Fold8’s as 81.9 × 123.9 × 9.7 mm. The Duo is listed as wider and thicker when folded, while the Fold8 is taller. These measurements can help estimate pocket fit, but do not substitute for handling the devices. Comparable folded dimensions for the Pixel are not stated in the cited comparison.
What do the camera specifications tell you?
Apple lists a dual rear-camera system for the Duo: a 48 MP main camera and a 48 MP ultra-wide, with up to 2× optical-quality zoom. The Fold8’s published comparison figures are a 50 MP wide camera and a 50 MP ultra-wide, also with up to 2× optical-quality zoom. PhoneArena lists a triple rear-camera system for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold but does not establish the full camera specifications in the cited comparison.

Camera count and zoom range describe hardware configuration, not image quality. The available information does not establish which phone takes better photos, handles low light better, or produces more reliable video. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro comparison page describes the Pro models’ dedicated telephoto camera as offering up to 8× optical-quality zoom; that is a different camera configuration from the Duo’s stated dual-camera system.
How do software and ecosystem affect the choice?
The Duo runs iOS 27. Apple says its software is designed for the phone’s foldable orientations and multitasking, but that description has not been validated here through matched app or usability testing. The Fold8 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold use Android foldable software. The practical distinction is less about a single feature list than about which operating system, apps, cloud services, accessories, and other devices you already rely on.
- Consider the Duo if you want a foldable iPhone and prefer iOS or already depend on Apple services and devices.
- Consider an Android foldable if your existing setup and preferred apps are centered on Android, or if you want to compare devices already on the market rather than wait for the Duo’s announced availability.
- Wait for independent reviews if your decision depends on crease visibility, multitasking quality, camera results, or sustained performance. Published specifications cannot answer those questions.
Apple says Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is planned for the Duo later in 2026. Check that the feature has rolled out in your region and confirm accessory availability before treating it as a current capability.

What is known about durability, battery and charging?
Durability and repair
Apple states that the Duo has a Grade 5 titanium frame, ceramic protection, and an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not establish how the Duo will withstand drops, repeated folding, or long-term wear compared with other foldables. The cited sources do not establish comparative hinge durability, repair costs, or warranty coverage for the inner screen.
Battery and charging
Apple’s UK product page claims up to 31 hours of video playback using the Duo’s inner display and says fast wired charging reaches 50 percent in around 20 minutes. Apple also describes a dual-battery design and custom vapor chamber. The video-playback figure is a manufacturer claim under its stated measurement context, not an independent mixed-use battery result; it cannot predict how long the phone will last for your particular workload.

What does the iPhone Duo cost, and when can you buy it?
PhoneArena’s comparison tool lists the 256 GB Duo at $1,999 and the 256 GB Pixel 10 Pro Fold at $1,799 in the US. Those are secondary database listings, not universal or guaranteed current retail prices; the same page shows other regional and configuration prices. The cited source does not establish a comparable Fold8 price. Check the manufacturer or a retailer in your country for the exact storage configuration, taxes, trade-in terms, and current availability.
Apple announced preorders for October 16, 2026, and general availability beginning October 23, 2026. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold was announced August 20, 2025, according to PhoneArena’s comparison tool. The Duo therefore represents a new Apple entry, while the Pixel is an already announced alternative; actual availability depends on your market and retailer.
Quick Recap
Which folding phone should you choose?
- Choose the iPhone Duo for its iOS foldable experience if you are committed to Apple’s ecosystem and want a 7.6-inch inner display. Its announced hardware includes a dual 48 MP rear system, but real-world camera and foldable-use performance remain untested in the cited sources.
- Look closely at the Galaxy Z Fold8 for portability if the published weight matters most: it is listed at 201 g, compared with the Duo at 254 g. The two are close in inner-screen size and listed peak outdoor brightness, but hands-on comfort and display quality are not established by those figures.
- Consider the Pixel 10 Pro Fold for a larger inner display and three rear cameras if those specifications suit your priorities. Its 8.0-inch display is larger than the 7.6-inch screens listed for Duo and Fold8; camera quality is not established by the camera count.
- Wait before deciding on performance-critical features if you need evidence about crease feel, app behavior, hinge durability, battery in mixed use, or camera output. Those require independent testing rather than a specification comparison.
