1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBalanceBite is an author-described Windows app for planning meals and checking new foods, but its “safe to eat” output is not a verified food-safety guarantee. Its creator reports that the model sometimes hallucinated and even substituted a different health issue, so do not rely on it to screen for allergies, diagnose illness, or decide whether questionable food is safe.
What the Windows BalanceBite project is
Saumili Dutta describes BalanceBite as a Windows executable built with Electron. The project post says it runs Gemma 3 4B IT Q4_K_M locally through node-llama-cpp. These are the author’s descriptions; the executable and implementation have not been independently audited. The post describes two main uses: planning meals from groceries and profile information, and checking a new food with its portion size and likely after-effects. The author says the profile is encrypted and included in the model’s instructions with each request. The available description does not establish the app’s current availability, release version, system requirements, license, or measured performance.

- Provide meal-planning context. The intended inputs include groceries in stock and required nutrients.
- Save relevant profile details. The author says users can include health issues, dietary restrictions, and allergies. The post says this profile is encrypted and added to the model instructions for each request; that implementation detail has not been independently verified.
- Review the generated plan. The output is described as structured recipes, nutrient information, and warnings. The author also says a code-level filter is intended to remove recipes containing a listed allergen.
A separate mode checks a new food, taking portion size and likely after-effects into account. The description does not establish how those estimates are produced or how accurately they perform across foods, people, or medical conditions.

Why “safe to eat” should not be treated as a guarantee
The project post includes feedback that the model sometimes hallucinated and even replaced a saved health issue with a different one. That is a material weakness for a tool whose outputs may be interpreted as personalized safety guidance. A code filter intended to remove listed allergens does not, by itself, establish that the model or the overall workflow reliably catches every allergen or cross-contact risk.
The available evidence does not validate BalanceBite as a medical device, allergy-screening system, foodborne-illness detector, or dependable way to determine whether a dish is safe. The post also contains positive anecdotal feedback about nutrient predictions and estimated after-effects, but that does not demonstrate reliability. Treat generated recipes and warnings as suggestions to check—not as a substitute for ingredient labels, food-handling guidance, or advice from a qualified clinician or dietitian.
